this post is doing "numbers" on reddit so i'll post it here as well
I just got finished explaining "the trans thing" to a 6 and 8 year old. Here was the format.
"Some people are born different, sickly. Some are born with diabetes or extra fingers, some are born shaped funny.
Sometimes, boys are born and they're shaped like girls, like how you, Gabriel, have long hair and a light frame, but are still fully boys.
I have the opposite problem. I'm a girl that was born shaped like a boy. I have a deeper voice than most women and have a big, heavy frame, but if you were to draw my blood, you'd find girl blood. If you scooped out my brain and examined that, I'd have a girl brain.
Do you remember how it feels when someone calls you a girl? Tell me how it feels.
...
Yeah, well that's how I feel when you call me a boy, and it feels just as bad."
Feel free to whip that one out when you need to tell a gobbo about our experience.
Decisions, decisions.
