This is a bit of a lead-up to my next big project (for my educational instagram account) on domestic animals, but I felt it would be a good standalone post. After doing a bit of petting zoo work I’ve realized many people have misconceptions over what makes a goat a goat and what makes a sheep a sheep.
Hint: it’s not the horns or the wool or the beard!
Now that Abel’s “Hazbin Hotel” design has been officially revealed, I’d like to get something off my chest: a pet peeve I have with a lot of “Hazbin Hotel” fanart.
To be fair, the issue is far from exclusive to this fandom. In fact, in seems to be ubiquitous in religious artwork.
In every depiction of Abel’s mortal life I’ve seen so far; he’s shown with stereotypical fluffy, white sheep.
The problem is: not only do many modern sheep not look like that, but wooly sheep weren’t even developed until a few thousand years after the animals were domesticated!

Even just once, I would love to see artwork of Abel with mouflon: wild sheep not yet bred for the soft wool or soft temperaments considered synonymous with sheep today.
