Oh jeez... Okay. Let’s see if I can figure this out (in no particular order): 

Caleb’s Confession (2x18, Whispers of War) 

Anyone who’s followed me for any amount of time can probably piece together that I am... incredibly invested in Caleb’s progression. I probably project a lot onto him, and honestly that all started in this moment. I’ve written blog posts about it and I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about it. Something really big shifted here for me and I’ll never be able to unsee it. This was also one of the first moments of real emotional vulnerability that ever really stood out to me in C2. So there’s that. 

“He’s My Boy” (2x13, Lost & Found) 

This was the FIRST moment of real emotional direction that I remember seeing. Nott defending Caleb’s actions as well as explaining their very complicated dynamic in such simple terms felt really genuine. I still can’t watch this scene without getting emotional and honestly, it was the first moment that I saw how far they were gonna fall. Which... y’know (spoilers for episode 48) but look at us now. Hanging by a thread. 

Fjord’s First Dream (2x5, The Open Road) 

Hoooooooolyyyyyy shit, y’all. If I wasn’t invested before this moment (full disclosure: i definitely was), I was definitely invested after this. C2 was my first introduction to Critical Role, and to Dungeons and Dragons as a story medium, and this shit blew my mind. For the first time, I saw it for what it really truly was: an interactive method of storytelling. And Fjord and Travis both fucking outshone the moon in this scene. This had me hook, line, and sinker. 

The Aftermath of Molly (2x27, Converging Fury)

Molly’s death in and of itself devastated me. I was a wreck. But I’m being 100% honest when I say that I think it impacted the Mighty Nein for the better. I think that the bravery and the indigence and the conflict that we saw in that episode gave way to the people we see now. To Beau growing so much and Caleb admitting that the M9 are his friends. It brought us to a really quick growing up for that whole party... one that I really think they needed. No, I’m not glad Molly died, but yes, I’m very glad that his death had the impact it did. 

Kiri. All of Her. (2x20-2x25)

Okay, here’s the thing: Kiri was vastly fun and games. She was a chance for Matt to mimic his players and for shenanigans to ensue. (Who trusted a bunch of assholes with a tiny baby bird??? Matthew Mercer. That’s who.) But Kiri also served as a point of honesty and good-will with the M9. They all had to think about what they were doing and how they were going to present it to this small child--and even when they had bad intentions, they really, really had to consider the consequences. Conscience and gentleness look really good on them. Kiri’s episodes taught us a lot about the softer sides of the M9 and I love them.

this is a short 7 page comic exploring the relationship between two background characters named birchtail and heronclaw that takes place roughly 5 months before fading starlight. doesnt have much bearing on the main plot but i wanted to finish another minicomic just to like. really prepare myself for getting back into comics i guess
