The speaker comes on “mosque shooting”
Everything is hazy
“49 killed”
The sound is too thick.
Everything melts away in a heat of anger
The ice in our hearts melts to tears in our eyes
From across the class we hear a bitter laugh
It echoes the gunshots
With rage flowing through her veins
And glassy eyes with a tear stained cheek
She places a stone upon her heart and speaks
“Of course it happened in place called Christchurch”
We all understand.
Everything that was too loud a minute before
Is blanketed in an unbreakable silence.
The 49 murdered. Who were they?
Someone’s mother, father, child,family, brothersisterauntunclenephewniecefriend.
All of those. But Who were they?
Human.
Unlike the monster who shot them down one by one in God’s house itself.
With all our heads down we think about the lost and sympathize for their families.
In that moment it doesn’t matter what race or religion or colour we are
We stand with the Muslim community because it is OUR community.
Why does it take the death of innocent people for us to realize that?
The more you shoot us down the higher we will stand
We refuse to accept our place at your feet
Either you consider us your equal or nothing at all
You may discriminate against the colour of our skin
But you forget why it is brown in the first place
We have risen from the earth itself
We are the result of years of labour, toiling, war, fighting for freedom, fighting against hatred.
You think the hate crime will bring us below you
But we have been fighting for our place in this world as your equals since birth.
We are the result of years of hard work and struggle
The hardships and stories of our people engraved in every bone in our body
Their fiery strength flows in our blood
We will not stand back now
You can shoot us down a million times
And we will always get back up and greet you
“Hello Brother”

. . . And do not say that whose is killed in the path of Allah is dead. No! Indeed they are alive but you do not know how. (Surah 2, al-Baqarah verse 154) - . . I’m taking a minute to talk to you about my hometown, my beautiful Quebec City. I was born and raised in this amazing town, one of the oldest european settlement in North America. A beautiful North American town where you can taste a bit of Europe. For nearly 409 years Quebec City has been a peaceful town. I remember someone once told me that we had the same street crime level as Disney World. But last night... last night it all changed. I never thought the words “terror attack” would ever be associated with my hometown, but now it is. Last night, two men - two young men, students at the local Université - went into a Mosquée during the evening prayer and open fire and killed. 6 men were killed by gunfire last night, that’s more than my peaceful hometown had in the last 10 years combined! I always felt safe growing up in Quebec City and I’ve always been so proud of being from there. I’m still proud of being from Quebec City, but I’m feeling a little less safe...

New Zealand shooting: Turkey’s President wants death penalty restored over attack
President Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday called on New Zealand to restore the death penalty for the gunman who killed 50 people at two Christchurch mosques, warning that Turkey would make the attacker pay for his act if New Zealand did not.
Australian Brenton Tarrant, 28, a suspected white supremacist, was charged with murder on Saturday after a lone gunman opened fire at the two mosques during prayers on Friday.
«You heinously killed 50 of our siblings. You will pay for this. If New Zealand doesn’t make you, we know how to make you pay one way or another,» Erdogan told an election rally of thousands in northern Turkey. He did not elaborate.
