Her mind has gone treacherously blank. “Just send the gift then.” Korkie gives her an odd look. “You just said that would be rude,” he says. “Why don’t you and dad go? You do that for me all the time.” “We can’t,” Satine says, too quickly and without thinking. “Why?” Korkie asks, bewildered. And is there ever a good way to say the Chandrilan senator in question and myself had an extramarital affair that spanned several years and several planets and ended somewhat disastrously when her shabuir of a husband found us together in a hotel room and we had to poorly convince him we were drunkenly playing strip-sabaac to your twenty-six year old son? And the real question: is it more humiliating to fess up to your adult child, or to go face the object of said affair in person for the first time in a decade? *** Or: Mon throws a party, Satine gets an invite.
