This duo has a healthy friendship, but...
Analyzing these familiar films of my country (Spain), I've found that the friendship between these two fictional characters (Tad and Mummy), has some questionable aspects. Let's begin:
1 - Mummy tries his best to be by his best friend's side. However, he tends to be overly annoying, which leads to Tad getting angry, which is not surprising...
2 - The Inca has serious flaws. He's selfish, capricious, immature, and narcissistic. This is especially evident in the third part, where he constantly annoys Tadeo even though all he wants is to save him from the curse.
3 - Part three could have been an opportunity for the mummy to learn from his mistakes and grow up. But instead, they make it seem like Tad is the one who's wrong in the conflict. I mean, the guy the protagonist wants to help thinks about nothing but having fun, spends all his time being carefree, and then gets upset when people blame him for the problems he's caused (which is reasonable). Is someone like that really the victim of the problem?*
* To help you understand this, in the movie "The Emperor's New Groove," Kuzco starts out as a selfish and self-centered prince who annoys his friend Pacha in the peasant's attempts to make him become human again. But throughout the adventure, Kuzco evolves and matures, realizing that being so narcissistic will only bring him loneliness. And that's how he finally changes and learns from his mistakes.
4 - If the latter had been present in Tad's conflict with his best friend, the film would have been satisfying. However, in the end, the character learns nothing, and in this case, Tad is the one who learns to be more respectful of his friend... Looking at it this way, the latter makes no sense at all. And I know the filming is a comedy, but things get even worse when Mummy claims to consider his best friend a plastic toy he carried on the entire trip before Tad, who was the person who saved him... Lol 😂
5 - Tad's only flaw is that he trusts his best friend too much, despite his immature nature, allowing him to use his credit card and other things like letting him stay at the museum or destroying a painting in the Louvre. He's like the typical father who indulges his spoiled child in everything he asks for. If he weren't like that and scolded Mummy more often when he makes a serious mistake, it would surely have taught him right from wrong.
6 - This content shouldn't be analyzed too seriously because it only seeks to entertain children and doesn't take itself seriously. The duo's friendship is healthy, unlike other children's duos out there, and it clearly conveys the simple message of friendship. But it wouldn't hurt if the conflicts between them were resolved through an act of maturity and character development.
7 - If we view the third film from a family perspective, children will understand that no matter how naughty they are, there's no need to accept the consequences, since they're always right. And parents will think that maybe they shouldn't be so close to their children or scold them when they've done something wrong. This parallel may be just my own idea, but it seems as if the writers were trying to scream that through the characters (Mummy was punished more for what he did in the Tad shorts, while in the most recent film, he was too victimized when he did a very serious mistake).
8 - Obviously, the protagonist's best friend is saddled with the role of comic relief. And of course, they're trying to give him a goofy personality, someone who doesn't take anything seriously. But he occupies an almost antagonistic role. And giving him a personality like that tires the viewer out too much.*
* This isn't a spoiler because the information has already been published, but it seems that in the next movie about this, the mummy will be the main cause of the problem (again). And knowing the way they direct it, I bet they'll make him a victim despite his mistakes, and Tad will be the bad guy who has to learn about be nice with his bestie... 💀
Conclusion: The friendship between these two characters is good. But I feel it could be improved in some ways.
Anyway... This is only my opinion. But what do you think about it? Who do you think is in the right side? Do you like the interaction of this two? Let me know in the comments 😎
