Okay, so, I saw your graphs and thought I could expand on it a bit 😊 The first thing I did was to also try and filter completed fics, to see if there was something useful, then I did some filtering.

I considered four pairings: AusHun, PruHun, PruCan, and PruAus

- AO3: The unfiltered statics are like your own, but while the filters are applied taking out all the pairings with the two characters of the couple and the other two characters excluded. (example: when I looked for AusHun fics, I filtered out AusPru, AusCan (for how unpopular it may be, it’s the statistic), PruHun and CanHun. I applied the same logic to the rest.

- FFN: There are the pairings statistics like you did, however, since the pairing tag was added only in recent years, I also tried filtering through characters. (Since, when they’re present together, it’s almost always considered a pairing, anyway. I also filtered out the two character not belonging to the pairing. (example: Always for AusHun, I filtered out Prussia and Canada). This isn’t a fool-proof method, obviously, but it lets me have a greater insight on older fics (when there were only two characters slots).

Anyway, here are the numbers:

This isn’t very different from what you did in your previous analysis, just offers some other more detailed data that could give another insight. Clearly, PruCan comes out as a winner in any front.

However, since there were some people complaining about the lack of PruCan content, I wanted to compare PruCan to other pairings I know to be very popular - Spamano, GerIta, USUK and FrUK.

This time, the analysis was a bit different, since I had pairings that weren’t mutually exclusive.

AO3:

For PruCan, I filtered out PruHun and PruAus. 

I didn’t filter anything for Spamano and GerIta as I don’t know which pairings might be in competition. 

In FrUK and USUK, I mutually filtered out each other.

FFN: 

The pairing filter was the same, however, the character one was trickier for two reasons:

This time, I had two characters (America and England) that get also portrayed in familial situations;

FrUK fics might still include America if they’re FACE family fics.

To avoid confusion, I looked only for fics tagged as Romance (in all cases).  In USUK fics, I also filtered out France; while for FrUK, I filtered out the USUK pairing as pairings were implemented at the same time more characters slots were added - so, FrUK fics written before that would still not have America tagged as there were only two characters slot, and in the one after that, if he’s not paired up with England it’s probably a FACE family fic. 

Once again, it’s not foolproof, but I thought it was a good compromise.
