1. A post-canon fic
The Discreet Gentleman's Connection by pluto (gayrights420) [Drarry, E, 80.4k] 🌼🔥 I had the absolute pleasure of beta-ing for this fic, so when I say it is amazing, it truly is just that. Fast burn on the smut via Floo sex, slow burn on the in-person falling in love. Satisfying in all the best possible ways.
2. A fic that made me laugh
AITA for being "obsessed" with my childhood nemesis? by @rainstormradish [Drarry, M, 4.3k] 🌼📲 Draco on a reddit forum is hilarious just on its own, but the banter and formatting really bring this fic to life. Amazingly creative, had me in stitches!
3. A comfort fic
The Eighth Tale by @letteredlettered [Drarry, E, 12.0k] 💔⏳ An oldie but a goodie. I constantly find myself coming back to this fic and having my mind blown every single time. Time travel timey-wimey angst.
4. A fic with art
Dating Draco - A Visual Game by @itsphantasmagoria [Drarry, M, Video Game] 🌼🎮 This is a fic in video game form!! Amazing art and lovely story where YOU get to make the choices for Drarry's happily ever after.
5. A favorite series
The Journal of Dreadful Things by @lilbeanz [Drarry, G, 112k, WIP] 🌼📖 Hilarious, witty, AND COMES WITH ART!! Lilbeanz draws and writes a wonderfully delightful series starting from Draco's First Year. His characterization had me in hysterics. Book 4 is starting soon!

Moonstruck by @prettyremus [Wolfstar, E, 3.8k] 🔥🐺 Found this gem while scrolling through the werewolf smut tag (don't judge me). I love the switch in dynamic with Sirius taming Remus's wolf through, ahem, rough sex.
7. An unreliable narrator fic
Sea of White by @dividawrites [Harrymort, E, 8.6k] 🔥🤍 Deliciously hot, creepy, and strangely sweet. Love their dynamic here, the unrestrained lust. Harrymort "die" and lose their memories, so, of course, then they bang.
8. A fic that made me cry
Far Apart, Far Away by @unmistakablyoatmeal [Hinny, minor Drarry, T, 1.6k] 💔💍 Infidelity angst has never been this good. I love the layers of emotion in this fic. Quick punchy sections that really pulled me in.
9. A Muggle(?) AU fic
Pleasant Hope by @ac1d6urn, @sinick [Snarry, E, 41.6k] 💔⛪️ Pastor Severus!! The angst, pining, and self-discovery in this fic is superb! I love the interwoven magic and detailed world-building of this little town.

The Last Trial of Peter Pettigrew by @sleepstxtic [Prongstail, M, 20.8k] 💔 🐀 Holy moly, this fic!!!! Is this my new favorite fic?? Possibly. The concept is brilliant, so creative and nuanced. The Peter character study using outsider perspectives is genius. Seamlessly balances canon and new scenes.
11. A pre-canon fic
Careless by @tax-onomic [Luther, E, 1.5k] 🔥🪞 Lucius/Arthur my beloved rare pair!! I am captain of the Luther ship, and Tax's fic hits all the right spots. The pining, the sniping, the prickly personalities with emotional vulnerability underneath! And all in the middle of a hot smut scene. Perfect.
12. A canon-compliant fic
Scottish by thepadfoots [Chedric, G, 749] 💔🌟 Lovely Cho character study focused around her Asian identity and the boy she loved.
13. A fic rated G (more like T though)
Lion-Hearted Girl by MinnieQuill (odainath) [Minmione, G, 4.5k] 💔🦁 I know the large age gap might scare some, but their relationship feels very organic in this fic. The setting is grim, but there is always hope in the darkness!

You're So Vane by @patriceavril [Romelina, T, 6.8k] 🌼💄Romilda is so delightfully characterized, I was smiling through the entire fic. Angelina is the perfect foil (and love interest) to Romilda's attentions.
15. A rare pair fic (less than 2000 fics on AO3)
Snakeskin by @cntrl15 [Bellastoria, E, 3.7k] 🔥👠 Talk about a rare pair! Astoria/Bellatrix only has 2 tagged fics on AO3: this fic and the drabble I wrote based on it. But read this fic, and you'll see why I felt the need to write more in this universe.

Master of None by @nanneramma [Snormac, G, 5.5k] 🌼🧘 Severus is so wonderfully cranky, and Cormac is fine AF. The surprise pairing of 2023 that I never knew I needed and now I'm obsessed with!
17. An under-rated fic
Sun, Shadow, Shade by @naomijameston [Snuna, G, 700] 🌼☀️ Post-war fluff. Sunshine Luna is the perfect match for sullen Snape. A short and sweet fic for this underrated ship.
18. A canon-divergent fic
but somebody's gotta do it by nocturn [Pangulus, T, 920] 😄🧟♂️ This fic will make you say WTF but also huh, okay that totally works. The concept is WILD but Lyra executes it wonderfully. Pansy drags Regulus out of the inferi lake and they flirt a little while he gets de-corpsified lol.

In his embrace by @loneamaryllis [Snarrymort, het!Snarry, E, 48k] ⚡️👀 Dark and dirty but so so good. A Voldemort Wins AU where fem!Harry is taken as prisoner. Snape's mindset as he tries to save her (and is forced to rape her) is so twisted and mesmerizing. Mind the tags!
20. A thought-provoking fic
Icarus by @thistlecatfics [Millvansy, M, 20.0k] 💔🍾 War trauma, addiction, codependency! This fic is messy with emotions but has a strong, beating heart underneath. I am in love with Parvati as she deals with Pansy's addiction and Millicent's denial — three beautiful, imperfect girls.
21. A holiday fic
A Time, Dark and Divine by @moonflower-rose [Dronarry, E, 17.0k] 🔥⛱ HOLY FREAKING FUCK!! The sexual tension in this fic is off the freaking charts. Drarry seducing Ron while on vacation in Portugal. Sign me the fuck up!

Just A Minerva In Time (Minerva/Hermione, T, 6460) A time travel caper in which I tried not to think too much about all the paradoxes while I was writing it.
Tattletail (Sirius & James, M, 6846 words). A reconnaissance mission goes wrong, and secrets that should have stayed that way come out of the woodwork.
A Song of Ice and Fire and Awkward Ex-Boyfriends (Hermione/Draco, M, 20,272 words). An adventure to Iceland for the former lovers, on the hunt for a dragon everyone thought was extinct. Oh, and a very excitable Charlie Weasley.

It starts with an obituary column Hermione is reading. Then the fic goes into a flashback through time, from Hermione's Hogwarts letter and her years at Hogwarts. Each flashback shows us an interaction or an observation by Hermione of her teacher. The progression is written in a realistic and sharp portrayal of Hermione. Really beautiful pining and unrequited. This fic is realistic. There is no happy ending with everything working out. Things are complex and unresolved but they make their peace with it. One of my all time favs <3

Getting to know Minerva McGonagall takes a lot of patience, even with her shade of green dark on your shoulder, even though you're sure that the matching green stains her fingertips and the palm of her hand... You wait, and you wait, and eventually, eventually, she comes around.
💞 Luck of the Draw [Petcissa, T, 10.1k] by @madetofly 💞 A fascinating take on soulmates. Petunia as a Muggle in the magical world and bonded to Narcissa is wonderfully done in this story.
After Severus Snape revealed that Lily was a witch, Petunia wasn't surprised... What she wasn't expecting was to get an invitation to Hogwarts herself. No, she's not a witch like her sister. She's something else: a soulmate. She doesn't understand exactly what that means until she gets there.
💞 Falling and Flying [Kalicia, G, 2.5k] by JoRaskoph 💞 I adore this soulmates AU. The ending is a twist, and yet not a twist at all. I love the idea that you can hear your soulmate's thoughts!
Alicia Spinnet has a lot to deal with, even before she develops a crush on Katie Bell, who most definitely isn't her soulmate.

Why I read and reread it! - Because this fic gives an awesome Poppy! She's like this brilliant mix of confident and insecure. Her character growth over the fic is A+! Also I love the descriptions of the student medical problems. Incredibly sweet and emotional fic. It hit me hard when I first read it during the lockdowns <3
It's definitely not my favorite from the author. But it's a fic I needed in 2021! Hope + love + things ending well!

Poor old Snape was forced to tip his head back to continue gazing deep into Albie's eyes. Romantic, what? Personally I was dashed relieved I wasn't in Snape's shoes. When Albie continued to stand there like an iridescent lamppost that has nothing better to do than loom everywhere and cast chalk-striped light, Snape whispered, "You."
Why I read and reread it! - Also one of the lockdown reads! It introduced me to Jeeves and Wooster which was like the highlight of the lockdown time. I fell in love with the TV series. Also the books! Whoa! It's one of those reading styles I thought I was going to forever hate. But this fic! <3 Beautiful fic with tons of emotion. It's the full 360 of emotion! It is a crossover fic. But don't let that stop you! You are going to come out of this fic shipping a new ship :D
It's definitely not my favorite from the author. But it's the fic I needed in 2021! Humor + love + things ending well!

Why I read and reread it! - The lockdown fic. Honestly there are fics and then there's this fic. Looks totally ridiculous on the surface. But delivers incredibly like nothing I read before. Like MyWitch explained on this art Pandemic is a love story for the ages. Brilliant emotional connect. Beautiful, beautiful, absolutely stunning intergenerational fic covering over a century of time.
It's definitely not my favorite from the author. But it's the fic I needed in 2021! Loneliness + love + things ending well!

I’m sorry to gawp, but I do find you breathtakingly attractive.”

A bit nasty, that. Thieving, really. But it’s only from Muggles, you suppose, likely more than a few who’d thieve what they could from a lad half their size who didn’t know his way around. Ones who’d leave worse than a few marks on his hips.And it’s a little flattering, isn’t it. Him here with you. Liking the look of you. Confiding a thing like that.
Why I read and reread it! - This has everything that we see in the best fics on reddit /r/nosleep. Black mirror episode! This is one of the rare fics I read this year without a happy ending. No regrets!

Why I read and reread it! - Wholesome summer Snarry fic. Classic Acid style! This was feel good and just what I needed! If you need a refreshing and gentle read this is the fic for you! Absolute mood booster! Technically a crossover. But you definitely can read it without knowing about Stardew Valley!
Had he married Lily, James would be alive. Perhaps then-
"It was her fault," you say, as Snivellus rambles on about McGonagall refereeing duels with wit and verve. "Lily's fault," you explain. "She was a fiery thing. I told James to marry a girl who wouldn't be trouble."
"She wasn't-" Snivellus stutters, eyes wide in betrayal and grief and rage. "She was worth ten of him."
"She destroyed your life. She destroyed James's." She destroyed yours. If James had married one of the other cows, he would not have-
Why I read and reread it! - Not so wholesome Snape fic. My personal favorite is Hollow Moon because Sirius and his Issues. Beautiful prose, totally weird and totally brilliant.

You can't really explain it, not even to yourself. There's just something about George that draws you. Maybe it's his occasional moments of tentativeness, of vulnerability. He seems so lost without Fred, like a blind thing groping. He reminds you of yourself as you were for so many years after being bitten.
Why I read and reread it! - Postwar hurt/comfort with a BIG dose of realism. But happy/hopeful ending! I really needed something like this to feel the summer mood!

You shrug, silent. He wants to find a strange optimism in life, in assenting to living, but you’ve always been driven by fear. You live simply because you’re afraid of nothingness. Why I read and reread it!- Unhealthy Snarry is the best Snarry. It can't get unhealthier and better than this! Probably the angstiest fic I read this year. No regrets! Also really really love the POV here! Intense read!

Pairing - Snape/Aberforth, Snape/Harry
Words - 33000 words
Three freckles has Snape, along the hook of his nose, and they are spread out to form a wonky C. Three half-rings of teeth cut across his breast, and he wears them comely in dawn's light. Three snores he hums light, before he roars a belly-deep thunderous snore, again and again, and the cadence lulls Harry half-asleep.
Why I read and reread it! - Whoa! Absolute get wrecked intense fic. As in the reader is going to get wrecked. Dark, beautiful and totally unhealthy on like all the levels. But The Tumtum Tree as the Snarry epilogue is really wholesome. Also the most beautiful prose I read anywhere! Strange but beautiful.

Why I read and reread it! - Probably unhealthy. But definitely sweet. POETIC. This is what fluff looks like when eldritcher writes it. Don't skip the Giant Squid fic. It's legit brilliant.

Actually the Harry characterization had some beautiful throwback vibes to When the Rose and the Fire Are One! I really loved that. Also really loved their relationship dynamics. This fic has a perfect Snarry happy ending! The entire Secret Snarry Swap 2021 collection is awesome!
