"Telepathy can't exist!" wrote a very skeptical scientist in the Literary Gazette. Dr. Alexander Kitaigorodsky con tinued, “To transmit images from brain to brain requires some sort of electromagnetic waves. We’ve never found any such waves, so there is no such thing as telepathy.”

Karl didn’t take that lying down. Like Pushkin and many passionate Russians before him, he loved a duel. Karl strode into the offices of a rival magazine, Knowledge Is Power, and threw down the gauntlet. “I challenge Kitaigorodsky to a test!” he announced. “I will meet this professor wherever he wishes. We’ll test my telepathy. We’ll get to the truth of the matter.”

The professor took up the challenge. They set the day and time. The psychic duel was not to take place thirty paces apart in a snowy field, but inside a well-heated office. The “seconds” would be magazine editors and university scientists.

During the psychic duel Karl showed what he could do. He even read Kitaigorodsky’s thoughts. The scientist’s ivory tower convictions were skewered and dispatched. The shattered Kitaigorodsky declared in print, “We must study telepathy scientifically.

If the MC could read minds for a day, what would be the first thought they’d hear from the ros (abt the MC).

As for reading the ROs' minds, I'll just write what the ROs first think of the moment they notice MC at the start of the day.

Zeus: Immediately, they'll analyze on the MC's well-being. Do they have dark rings under their eyes from bad sleeps? Or do they look irritated from waking up on the wrong bed? Perhaps they're in dire need of their coffee? As such, Zeus just goes straight into thinking what MC needs for a fresh wake up call. Otherwise, Zeus would probably think something like "[Name] looks pleasant today." Simple but a positive statement about MC.

The only chances I can see in the relationship with Zeus would probably be a more tender tone in their mind when referring to MC.

Hermes: They don't talk a lot and usually, their thoughts are on inventions or some of their hobbies. But on the topic of MC (if, say, the squad is talking and MC is within earshot), Hermes would have thought about the brief touches, the talks that never seemed tiring to them, how MC passionately talking about something MC loves is one of the best traits to admire...

And, if say this is in relationship, Hermes would definitely have a mood of drifting to raunchier thoughts.

Dionysus: Bright smiles and brighter eyes, Dionysus's first thoughts are just on fire. "Oh Gods, [Name] looks so cute today! Wait, she/he/they look cute all the time...Ah, they look pretty down. Should probably get those snacks out; [favourite cookie] with [favourite drink]." And immediately, Dionysus does them, their thoughts comforting and basically a confidence/mood pep talk to help MC with their tough times.

Ares: Their senses are just that sensitive; if they feel like someone or something to watching or eavesdropping on them, Ares would catch them.

That being said, the first thought MC would hear is probably something like "you better prepare yourself, cadet." If MC dares to look, a smirk would cross Ares's lips.

If this is platonic though, Ares would just have MC explain why they were peeping into their thoughts.

If its in a relationship though, at first, Ares would mess with MC with thoughts of seemingly hinted images before they get cliffhangered.

(But when MC does something cute or romantic or just them, Ares would sort of slip from their 'punishment' and just think "That's my cadet" with a soft, proud tone somehow.)

???: (Relationship stage - def gonna feel them heartstrings as I write ;u; )

??? can't remember the last time they had a good sleep before sleeping in the same bed as [Name].

Then again, ??? doesn't have a reason to stick around in one place too long...until recently. Until this relationship started.

A yawn catches ???'s attention.

Stepping out of the room is [Name], with disheveled hair, wrinkled clothes and one hand gently rubbing their tired eyes. So groggy, so sluggish. Then [Name] drops their hand and a smile spreads open once [Name] is more aware of who's in the kitchen. "Morning, ???."

"I love you." is the first to come into ???'s mind. Every time, every day, every single moment ??? sees them.

Sometimes it would be admiring the sunlight that basks against your hair.

Or how the day just seems brighter with every gleam your eye holds.

Even when night comes, the stars pale in comparison to you.

I, for example, can’t see images in my mind. And I don’t really have an inner monologue, either- just a silent voice within my mind which I control (but don’t hear) when I’m actively thinking about something. My sister tells me it’s different for her- that she can actually hear a near constant monologue of subconscious thoughts. And a video she sent me on the topic seemed to imply that that (or something similar) is ‘the norm.’

So how would mind-reading work against someone like me? Would the mind-reader hear anything at all coming from me? Even when I can’t? Or would it be more vague- like whispers underwater or signed language from beyond a veil? If they sent thoughts to me, would I be able to hear those? Would I be immune to mental suggestions, or would I be more susceptible?

And what if this other person was like Wanda Maximoff in AoU? What if one of their powers was showing people visions of their worst fears? If it’s entirely a mental thing, would I see those images at all? Would it be easier or more difficult to attack me in this manner? Does such an attack impact the mind’s eye or does it directly impact a person’s vision? Would different telepaths have different skill levels/natural abilities when faced with different kinds of minds?
