velvet's pokémon teams & reasonings...

🎀 "main" timeline

contrary to popular belief, velvet's team does not consist mostly of dogs! this is because she feels a strong kinship with them, and would not want to command them. she also does not have an indeedee because she would feel weird giving orders to it. so... here is her silly team of (mostly) little guys, plus some explanation!

minccino: self explanatory. her cleaning buddy!

These Pokémon like things neat and tidy. They are always sweeping and dusting their habitat, using their tails as brooms.

bewear: a strong but cute friend! velvet is able to accept its hugs with ease. velvet's bewear is extremely protective of her, and sometimes acts like a pseudo guardian, guiding her out of trouble.

Once it accepts you as a friend, it tries to show its affection with a hug. Letting it do that is dangerous—it could easily shatter your bones.

slurpuff: velvet's baking friend! this one is aware of her mental state, so it tries to soothe her when she becomes agitated. it also holds her back (along with the bewear) if she is pushing her body too far.

By taking in a person's scent, it can sniff out their mental and physical condition. It's hoped that this skill will have many medical applications. It can distinguish the faintest of scents. It puts its sensitive sense of smell to use by helping pastry chefs in their work.

mimikyu: velvet finds the mimikyu in the attic of the mansion, where it was thought to be a ghost. they quickly become friends, as the mimikyu senses something kindred in her.

Even as it struggles beneath the cloth to repair the broken neck of its disguise, Mimikyu keeps up its impersonation of Pikachu.

chandelure: velvet encounters the chandelure when she enters the "abandoned wing" of the mansion. she loses her soul this way in multiple loops, and though she is warned of its danger, she refuses to abandon it.

Being consumed in Chandelure's flame burns up the spirit, leaving the body behind.

klefki: a nod to her cherished item. the only pokémon that was able to travel with her into dd inc., so she takes very good care of it.

In the past, noble families entrusted their vault keys to a Klefki. They passed the Klefki down through the generations, taking good care of it.

...

dachsbun: the one exception to the no dogs rule. velvet became close with this dachsbun as a child, though she never captured it, so it's not on her team... she likes to sleep and cuddle next to it because it smells good and chases away nightmares.

The surface of this Pokémon's skin hardens when exposed to intense heat, and its body has an appetizing aroma.

🍰 bonus: alternate timelines

in a world where pokémon exist, every time the mansion resets, it resets the pokémon too, so i wanted to list alternative pokémon velvet has added to her team (these occured less frequently than the "canon"). also note that this is NOT an actual team comp, these are just some more pokémon she'd have collected.

phantump: velvet meets phantump in the woods when she is a child. the two often played hide and seek together. in some timelines, it chooses to travel with her. in most others, it sacrifices itself in order to cure her sickness and provide warmth when her father abandons her in the woods during the winter.

By imitating the voice of a child, it causes people to get hopelessly lost deep in the forest. It's trying to make friends with them. According to legend, medicine to cure any illness can be made by plucking the green leaves on its head, brewing them, and boiling down the liquid.

banette: velvet meets banette by chance whilst wandering in the city. it promises to treat banette kindly, and it does! in timelines where 1. it is added to her team and 2. velvet dies, it will abandon its own revenge and instead hunt velvet's killer.

Resentment at being cast off made it spring into being. Some say that treating it well will satisfy it, and it will once more become a stuffed toy.

sinistea (phony): velvet actually finds no problem with ingesting sinistea, but she'd prefer to be its friend instead.

The teacup in which this Pokémon makes its home is a famous piece of antique tableware. Many forgeries are in circulation. Sinistea gets into your body when you drink it, and then it steals your vitality from within. It also tastes awful.

maushold: velvet discovers the maushold living in the walls by chance. the family "pseudo-adopts" her, and she has tea with them every once in a while. the "parents" of the maushold seem to have a fondness for velvet, and help her with her chores every so often.

The two little ones just appeared one day. The group might be a family of related Pokémon, but nobody knows for sure.

trubbish: in timelines where The Manor's upkeep suffers (due to the Head Maid and/or Butler being killed off first), a trubbish will spawn. velvet puts its love for consuming garbage to use, and has it assist her when she cleans up on her own. this particular trubbish has taken on a strange, scarlet hue. whatever could be in the trash she's feeding it...?

Its favorite places are unsanitary ones. If you leave trash lying around, you could even find one of these Pokémon living in your room.

milcery: sometimes, in loops when velvet spends more time with The Chef, a milcery appears while she diligently practices baking sweets at night.
