Gotta start this account off strong 👀 which is why my first rant of the day is the Buizel line.
Buizel and Floatzel are known as the Sea Weasel pokemon. Their most notable trait, as mentioned in almost every iteration of the pokedex, is there flotation sac. It is a modified piece of there body that allows for ease of swimming, hence their water typing. You wanna know what's there SECOND most notable trait? Their twin tails! Both mons have two tails that allow for extra adaptability in the water. They do this by spinning their tails like a propeller (remember this).
Although Floatzel's dex entries fail to mention it, Buizel has many entries stating its use of the propeller tails. In its very first appearance in gen 4, diamond and pearl, the pearl entry states "It swims by rotating its two tails like a screw to propel itself through the water. When it dives, its flotation sac collapses." Now you may be asking yourself at this point... what's the big deal? Looking at both their designs it's a pretty obvious trait. Why am I wasting time with what's already known. Well apparently... Pokemon itself isn't aware of this design. I say this because of the ability Propeller Tail!!!
Propeller Tail is the signature hidden ability of the Arrokuda line that was introduced in gen 8, which mimics the way the pokemon themselves are designed to move and swim, being water type fish mons. The ability itself allows the pokemon to ignore moves/abilities that make it target someone else. For example, when an Arrokuda uses the water move Waterfall, it wont be redirected by Storm Drain or another pokemon using Follow Me. It's basically Pokemon telling us they propel themselves so fast that they don't have the chance to go a different direction before reaching there destination.
Now, it should not be unknown to most pokemon fans this fact: It's possible for a pokemon to change types, abilities, and even stats over the course of new generations. How else do we get Fairy type Clefable or Gengar without Levitate. Tell me WHY then has Buizel or Floatzel not gotten the Propeller Tail ability?!?!?! Yes it took them time to introduce the actual ability, but we are on the precipice of gen 10 that there are so many pokemon who deserve a little help, let alone canon accuracy to their idea as a Pokemon. I can go on and on about how this ability can be beneficial to the competitive side as well as other factors, but I'l leave that for you to ponder. For now, just know that the pokemon with a tail like a propeller do NOT have the ability Propeller Tail lol.
