Y'know, I've always been curious. Do diglets (and the like) ever come out of the ground voluntarily? Never seen it happen. If not, is there any way to comfortably bring one indoors (without the use of a pokeball)?
very, very rarely! i've seen all of one photo of a diglett that completely left its dirt by choice, and i've never seen footage of a dugtrio doing the same. these pokemon have evolved to spend the vast majority of their time underground and typically only poke their heads up when it's dark out. it's possible they may come out more often in caves, but because they can sense vibrations so easily, they dig back underground when they hear anything approach!
generally it's better not to bring a diglett indoors, because that's just asking for problems with your house's foundation. but i have talked to some very, very dedicated diglett owners who've effectively made a diglett runway that extends from a raised indoor soil bed, runs through a window, and leads out to a covered raised soil bed outside. kind of like catio access for meowth but with diglett. this is quite expensive and takes a good deal of upkeep, but some people have the resources and are that dedicated to their pokemon!
