Hiii Rain!!! May I pretty please ask for the wip game 🌾 for 🍻? I am in LOVE with this concept ahaha
yayyyyy thank you!!!! i ALSO love the buckravi fic i truly need to write more for it.
what makes this fic grow? What do you need to make it grow?
i LOVE buck&ravi dynamics, i just think that it's so fun and fascinating! unlike the other members of the 118, i don't think ravi can be slotted easily into a family designation -- like, it always feels weird to me when fics make buck call him a brother or something, because that's not really the vibe i personally get. that more loose space ravi occupies for buck makes writing them bouncing off of each other really fun, and it's what made me write this fic! my first fic ever for 911 was also buck&ravi, so clearly i just have an affinity for these two.
for this fic specifically, i think that i really want to have ravi and buck be straightforward with each other in ways that contrast how convoluted their situation gets. like the inciting incident for this fic is that they're doing therapy with each other, so they have really honest conversations that i find really fun to write because they don't really get that with anyone else! buck of course has terminal 'complicated dynamics with everyone in his life'-itis, and ravi i think has a really special dynamic with the 118 where he came in early enough to see a lot of pivotal moments of the team, but late enough that he doesn't really get their drives the way they get each other. i really like having the two of them bridging that gap with each other!
as a bonus, have a little snippet i do not remember if i've already shared or not, but always makes me smile bc it does encapsulate the dynamic i wanted for them here:
It is startling, how much better he feels, the crawling sensation from the therapy session a slide instead of skitter under his skin. Ravi complains about his latest hookup, the AC issues at one of his tenant’s places, how Chimney ate the takeout he brought to the station last shift and claimed that it was ‘captain’s privileges.’ Buck teases, laughs, settles into his seat. There’s something comforting about hanging out with Ravi, with the lack of expectations surrounding it. With Ravi, Buck isn’t a brother or son or partner or guardian, not a mentor or disappointment or savior or failure. He’s not any of the tangled webs of family that’s become so vital and so complicated in Buck’s life. He’s just- Ravi’s friend, all of the best parts of befriending all the people that Buck has met on the road, without the distance that comes from knowing that they are moving towards something that you still haven't quite grasped. It is, Buck is startled to realize, maybe the first time he’s had a normal friend. Because Buck is chronically incapable of being normal about these things, his mouth moves in time with this thought. “Hey, I think you’re like, one of my only friends.”
(ask me about my wips!)
