Day 7 - See You Later
Summary: Post-TP, Post-BOTW When Midna told Link "See you later" instead of what she actually meant to say, she knew the chances of those words ever being true were slim to none. Until one day she was proven wrong. The Hyrule she would visit would not be the same one that she knew, but that wolf the knight had with him, he was more than familiar.
Written for Midlink Week 2020, organized by @midzelink.

Authorâs Notes: YES! I DID IT! I FINISHED A WHOLE ENTIRE WEEK! FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY WRITING CAREER!!!
Do you know how long that is? I started when I was 13! I am now 23! It took me an entire decade! :'D
Constructive criticism is appreciated!
Enjoy!

Phew! Hope you enjoy!
Let me just say that, in the year 2k19, I can be nothing but grateful that there are still a good number of people out there (114 to be exact!) who love and support Midlink enough to follow a silly blog dedicated to the bond they share. Iâd love to do more with this blog in the future; right now, Iâm working out the details for potentially hosting a Midlink Week at some point in the not-so-distant future, as the old blog dedicated to the week is no longer active. (Would yâall be interested in such a thing? Any ideas for themes?)
At any rate, I appreciate each and every one of you to pieces. Long live Midlink!
DAY 2: Height Difference / Enjoying time
I got inspired by another artistâs comic and decided to throw my hat into that style o . oÂ

Otherworldly Forests
PREVIOUS PIECES: A Meeting in Shadow, The First Agreement. .
The moon peered through the branches and clouds into the forest floor. Â Link watched it from his position in the tree that heâd set up to watch from. Â For the moment it was just him and the twili while the third member of their little group was off likely getting supplies. Â A yawn escaped his mouth as he reached up to rub an eye.
âDonât fall out of the tree, Iâm not going to catch you,â he heard from his shadow.
âThought you were asleep,â he replied, moving his back slightly against the trunk.
âWas.  But thinking we should switch watch.â
Link looked over his shoulder at his own shadow against the trunk.  In the moonlight it was very hard to see, but a pair of red eyes glowed from where his would have been.  It reclined in a way he was not with its hands behind its head.
âSaid a couple months ago anyways that every living thing needs sleep.  Even a hexer like you isnât exempt from that.â
âChosen Champion, not hexer.â  He turned away, shaking his head a little.
âStill donât trust me, huh?â She moved out of his shadow to a sitting position on the thick branch next to him, pulling her hood back and kicking her legs a little with a yawn.
 âNot completely, Midna.â
âWell, look at that. Progress!  Not âhey youâ or âsorceressâ but my name!â
âYâdonât need to be so sarcastic every time I do use your name.â  He looked at her for a moment before going back to watching the skies.  âAnd what about me?  Yâgonna stop calling me âhey youâ and âidiotâ anytime soon?â
âEh.  Donât push your luck.â  Her red eyes shifted to look at him for a moment.  âThough, Iâll concede that at least youâre a noble idiot instead of just a regular stupid one.â
Link merely sighed, though it turned into a yawn.  A moment of silence passed between them before she spoke again.
 âThese are such strange forests.â
âLike the one back home for me.  Grew up in a valley with a lot of trees around.â  He sat up a little then, leaning forward and balancing himself with his foot.  âThey donât have ones like this back home for you?â  Link could see the faint reaction of worry.  How her eyes widened and watered a tiny bit at being asked a question she wasnât sure she should share.  Midna closed her eyes and shook her head.
âThe Twilight is mostly desolate.  Like The Gerudo Deserts.  The world is different.  Continents float in the glow of a vast expanse. It goes on forever.  Thereâs a lot of rocks and caverns with water flowing through them.  Our âforestsâ are comprised of glowing fungi in most places. My guess is because thereâs no true sun there like the other worlds.â  He saw her smile sadly.  âIn some caves, it grows on the walls and when the natural light of the world fades from it because the island turned, they glow like the stars in your world. Any water in the caveâll reflect itâŠâ
 âSounds like quite the sight.â
âIt is.â  She slowly looked his way.  âUsed to go exploring in them growing up.  Before everything else.  How I found Fenris actually.â
 âYour big wolf, right?â
She smiled a little before looking back over the trees and night sky.  âYeah.  Found him stuck in a hole and with a broken leg.  Lifted him out and took him home.â
âAnd now heâs nearly as big as Epona.â
âYeah, they can get pretty big.  Much bigger than the ones in the other worlds.â  It was her turn to yawn.  âWhat about you?  You ever go wandering?â
âHeh.  Actually, getting sent out into the woods was a bit of a punishment for us back at The Tower.â
âReally?â  Midna studied him with a raised brow.
âYeah.  If we got in trouble for something, weâd be sent out for a day to gather things for potions and other medicines.â   Link bowed his head a little, almost adding the secret pieces of The Towerâs most important ritual.  He glanced to his left for a moment and cleared his throat.  âI liked it out there.  Seeing and hearing all the different sights and sounds.  The taste of the air was different from The Tower. Enjoyed tracking some of the animals around and learning how they reacted to when they could smell me or hear me. Got pretty good at tracking from it actually.  Learned the area well and it helped during training.â  He smiled a little, even though there was a hint of sadness to it. âReminded me of the top of the island.â
 âIsland?â
He nodded.  âMe and my sister, Aryll.  We grew up on an island in the South Seas.  At least, until the war.â  Link slowly looked back at her.  She had pulled her hood back up and wrapped her cloak around her a little tighter as the wind picked up.  âWas this little forest.  Mostly trees like this one.  But a few palm trees too.  Could see for miles from the old redwood on the hill.  Remember climbing up it when I was five and scaring my motherâŠâ  Another yawn escaped his mouth.  This time though his eyes closed.  âIâd like to go back some day.â
âMmm.â  There was another long pause in the conversation.  âLink?â
 âMmm?â
 âYouâre falling asleep, arenât you?â
âAnd youâre not?â he half-mumbled.  It was the last either of them said or heard until the dawn.
