Learning to Talk Back to Academics
Those whoâve followed me for a bit might notice how my language in changing. Not making things up or trying to trick anyone here.
Iâm just really realizing how much energy and effort went into hiding all traces of my disabilities, my poor peopleâs accents, and in general, where I came from.Â
When I get excited Iâm letting myself talk like the people from my village rather than hidinâ behind fancy words to not make rich educated folks uncomfortable like I had to in order to survive for so long.
If I say something that offends ya let me know and Iâll reflect on it.
I wonât ever use these words about others unless weâve mutual trust and understanding, but at the same time thereâs a lot of power I can reclaim by allowing myself to call myself the poor as shit gimpy hick son of a poor as shit gimpy soldier.Â
Iâm starting to realize how much subtle and crushing violence is contained is rich educated white folks telling poor uneducated folks to âcheck their privilegeâ and not to use words like âgimped, cripple, disabled as fuckâ to describe themselves.
Weâre not fukinâ âdifferently abled.â A lot of us are too poor and uneducated to even be âdisabled,â we speak our own truths when we call ourselves gimps, crips, and crazies.
If that angers you you might be a liberal.
I canât smother myself for your comfort any more.
You will not rob my people and those I love of our voices any longer. You wonât make me rob from them for your comfort either.
Iâm fukinâ done being yer unknowing emotional grease monkey ye greasey as shit elitist fucks
Die mad about it.Â
