I just saw a post from a punk who was satirising the “posers” they’ve seen and mocking that they wear popular bands’ patches, pins, and slogans for various progressive movements. The thing is tho, they could be wearing those slogans to indicate they’re a safe space for marginalised groups (because despite adamant claims to the contrary there are many right-wingers abd bigots who do infiltrate the punk community). Also, they’re probably new to the subculture and are just now learning abt other punk bands and whatnot, and might not even be able to make or get patches or other bands they like if they’re less mainstream. Also, several people in the comments were talking abt how “punk is all abt the ideals” and so this person was being a poser, but this person WAS LITERALLY WEARING PATCHES SHOWING THEYRE POLITICAL ALIGNMENT WITH PUNK IDEOLOGY. And, if they’re real issue w this hypothetical straw man of a character they created is that they don’t have the right ideology, then why is most of the criticism centered on their clothes which the satirist claims shouldn’t matter?

As a “goth” woman, I fucking despise a lot of goths in the scene because of the obnoxious virtue signaling and elitism. It’s nothing more than a dick measuring contest of who’s more authentic than who. This is why we don’t form our opinions, personality, and ethics through TikTok.
