The vbbsmyt youtube channel returns with another excellent 3D animation of the German MG08. It features not only the weapon’s operation but also its sledge mount system, showing how it could be pulled and carried. The sledge system was an advancement over the cumbersome carriage mounts earlier Maxim guns had been mounted on, however, the tripod would eventually become the universal mount for most machine guns.

The video shows how the MG08′s water jacket was filled and how ammunition was fed into the gun. One of the most interesting parts of the video is the demonstration of how the MG08 ejected its spent cases out of the front of the receiver. The animation shows in detail how the Maxim’s toggle action cycled and towards the end of the video the water-cooling system is also showcased.
