half-blood (both parents are too)
of the mcgonagall and thompson families
has two cousins: maria-gabrielle (five years older) and elsie (six years younger)
his family calls him bobby, to differentiate from his dad and grandfather
doesn't have a close relationship with his aunt and uncle, didn't see them much as a kid. minerva is more of a professor to him than an aunt. he's also not close with either of his cousins because of the age gap
his mom isn't really in his life, he lives alone with his dad
he and his father, robert jr., are very close. they spend hours together in the living room, listening to all sorts of music without speaking. it's his favourite thing to do
though minerva was privately worried he would begin emulating the marauders (as many young gryffindors did), bobby wasn't actually a big fan of them. the only one he didn't find insufferable was remus, and that was mostly because bobby was a part of remus' unofficial study group he set up in sixth year. other than him, though, bobby pretty much had a headache every time he witnessed one of the marauders' antics
he's a bit of a loner, not out of any social anxiety or trouble making friends, but he just doesn't really devote much time to that kind of stuff. regardless, a younger ravenclaw named gilderoy lockhart became so enamoured with bobby's total indifference towards him that he made it his life's mission to endear bobby to him (it hasn't really worked)

for his fourteenth birthday, his dad got him a cat, whom he named scotty (naturally)
had a gigantic crush on lily evans for like three years, he thought she was so pretty and used to get totally flustered when she as a prefect spoke to him in any way (what a dork)
