my menos grande appreciation art
So earlier i posted about Velvet and Menos and yadda, and mutual @ 23456df pointed out that demons revered Menos even in present. This i hadn't actually remembered when worldbuilding for the AU, so I'm now thinking about its ramifications.
Demonia, if it were to survive as a civilisation post war, would be almost completely reliant on Genova for essential trade, for a variety of different factors. Small population, weakened and injured by war, unable to tend to crop or animal as effectively at a large scale, damage to the land and infrastructure from the war, loss of skilled workers to teach, etc. Even if we take the monk demon future, they still need to eat, winter the cold, tools to build their temples. Aqueducts don't make themselves.
So basically, demons now depend on humans, and therefore on good human relations.
Now Menos probably wouldn't be happy to just see his people slowly disappear as passive monks. So his task is even harder. He has to both reignite the will of his country and build the relevant infrastructure. He has his status as a saviour working on his side, but it's also working against him. He's just a man in the end, bound to disappoint eventually, so the higher his people elevate him, the further he has to fall. Which is real bad for him obviously, but INCREDIBLE for me. I'm going to use this as fodder for drama. He's under insane pressure and it's isolating him. He's barely had any time to catch his breath from the incomprehensible horrors of time, and now this. This is going to help me push Velvet and Menos closer, as she will be the only person he's around who doesn't need his constant input or direction(in fact shes probably going to boss him around), doesn't expect miracles from him, and he gets to just think about something else for once.
As I mentioned in a comment under that post, I agree that Menos and Velvet will be studying the magi tech. I think they'd be doing it for slightly different reasons but also for similar ones, and they'd have similar emotions about it. Both agree it's the most viable and easiest way to replenish the population of demons, as they can produce fully grown demons straight away, but both are obviously conflicted about it. Menos more so than Velvet, but Velvet also feels like she's doing some kind of wrong against the demon people. Velvet also probably feels excited to study it, for which I can give her minor guilt. Something like... maybe she feels like shes a little bit of a bad person for being excited about something that is simultaneously the hardest, heaviest decision one of her closest friends just had to make. She tries to be there for him as much as possible, and they fall in love.
Then, then, Velvet has to leave, to use her book to deal with global warming, but Menos has to stay, and he misses her so much he realises he's in love. Yay!
