Nick León - Millenium Freak feat. Esty & Mediopicky
Ekstra Bonus x mediopicky presents. MALA KAWAII
hyperpop it's the future
Dominican artists mediopicky and Ekstra Bonus reunite with their new single “MALA KAWAII,” following their past collaborations “SOLA” and “Repica.” The track blends Dominican street merengue mambo with hyperpop, telling the story of a bold yet playful girl whose style bridges Dominican and Japanese street culture.
Co-written with La Marimba, “MALA KAWAII” imagines a youthful character — a Dominican girl who loves the party, the streets, and the joy of life. She embodies duality: “una mala kawaii,” a fearless baddie with a hyper-cute aesthetic.
“I’m listening to a lot of hyperpop but also a lot of mambo, and I’ve always had a soft spot for 90s merengue acts like Las Chicas del Can and Yarumba,” says Ekstra Bonus. “Mediopicky and I are both into Japanese and street culture, so we wanted to bring that kawaii touch to both the song and the video.”
The video, shot, directed, and edited in Santo Domingo by Mariela Pichardo (La Marimba), captures a perfect day in the life of a Dominican “mala kawaii” — dancing in the streets, drinking beer, riding motorcycles, and embracing the joy of being both baddie and kawaii.

Major Lazer & DJ Snake - "Lean On" (feat. MØ)
It's mainstream, but it's cool that everybody is dancing to this type of music. It's an EDM type of sound with dembow underneath. Diplo is sharing dembow with the world — a rhythm that is as strong in the Dominican Republic as no place else.

Caballo & Beatfunk - “Yippi Yappa” (Mediopicky remix)
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the MP3′s invention, thousand of artists from more than 80 digital labels have united in a collective movement called #netlabelday. Latino Resiste is a participant and has dropped a compilation that can be downloaded in the format of one's preference for free or a pay-what-you-can option. One of the tracks that really blew my mind is a champeta/bass/trap remix done by Dominican artist Mediopicky.
