I’m making a post of this partly so that I have a record to refer to, since my brain is a sieve when it comes to things of actual importance like my health.
So I started taking birth control about five days ago. Not for contraceptive purposes because hahaha what are men, but because I’m friggin’ sick of periods and don’t want to have them anymore.
Now I’m keeping an eye out for potential side effects, especially mood-related ones. I’ve been feeling some increased dysphoria over the past few days, but that may or may not be related to the pill. It could just as easily be a random exacerbation of my general state of being. I have next week off work (cue Hallelujah Chorus), so I’ll be keeping a close eye on how I feel then, since I’m obviously happier when I’m not working.
PSA for anyone who’s interested in getting on birth control but who might be, like I was, turned off by the eleventy million hoops you typically have to jump through if you’re a uterus victim who wants some modicum of bodily control: get your birth control online. I got mine through Nurx.com, and it was so simple I’m still half-waiting for the other shoe to drop. I didn’t have to see a gyno (keep your fingers and your torture devices far far away from my vagina, tyvm) or even speak to a doctor at all. I just uploaded my health history and insurance information on their website, their doctors went through it, and voila, I had free birth control no more than a week or two later. Highly recommended if you’re like me and squeamish and/or sick of being judged by doctors.
