With literally any other show I'd wholeheartedly agree that I and other fans who didn't like a finale and the direction the show was taking should just stop watching the show and just tune out future seasons if we didn't like it, allowing fans who want to see more to have that option. But Veronica Mars is a one in a billion case when it comes to TV shows (literally no other show in history falls in the same category of how we got here). This season was made possible in large part because Hulu saw the passion of fans, that they were willing to put their money where their mouth was, and would get free publicity from enthusiastic fans. As I said in other posts, do you really believe that Rob Thomas would have gotten a green light from Hulu for this season without the Kickstarter? I very highly doubt it.

The fact that the show got a second life to begin with was due to crowd funding and in my opinion that fundementally alters the normal relationship between fans and creators/writers. Fans carried the show and Rob Thomas on their backs to a second chance through money and passion with Kickstarter. So, while I, and other fans, didn't have to agree with or like everything in the season because it was funded by Hulu this time, it was blatantly disrepectal and backstabbing to write a death that was unnecessary, used for shock value, and to maximize the pain of fans, when Rob Thomas wouldn't have gotten a shot at season 4 without them. There were so many other ways to have written the show so that Veronica wasn't "blissfully happy" and Logan wasn't around without killing him off, such as Logan being off on a Navy mission or if Rob Thomas really wanted to have Veronica torn apart emotionally and leaving town alone to investigate a mystery somewhere else he could have written Veronica have a miscarriage and leave Neptune to get some space without breaking them up (something many couples face in real life that's beyond heartbreaking). Those are just two ideas that didn't require any deep thinking at all for me to come up with, so Rob Thomas seriously couldn't come up with a plot line that left Logan alive, while going in the direction he wanted?!!!

Anyway to answer the original question of why fans are working to ensure another season doesn't happen, instead of just accepting it, is this in my opinion: those fans put time, energy, and money into a show to experience joy and Rob Thomas used their contributions to create a season ending that brought severe pain, betrayal, and heartbreak to them when it wasn't necessary. Those of you who accept the finale and direction of the show may be disappointed if more seasons are made, but consider that if you get what you want and another season is made, for those who feel stabbed in the back, it would just twist the knife and reopen wounds that may have started to heal, not to mention validate Rob Thomas's decision to have knowingly (and unnecessarily) hurt the fans.

I realize this is a TV show, but as I said it's got a very different set of circumstances than a normal TV show. Even if you've never personally been affected by a TV show to the degree many fans of this have, realize that their feelings are real and deep. If you've ever experienced heartbreak or betrayal in your real life you know how much those feelings suck (if you haven't consider yourself blessed). Now imagine being faced with the possibility that you had to experience betrayal or heartbreak again, but with the added experience of having to relive that pain over and over. That's exactly what's going to happen to the fans, feeling betrayed now, when they hear the show has been renewed (if it is), see an interview with the cast about a new season, see ads for the new season, see it in the Hulu dashboard if they subscribe to Hulu, etc. You could argue that they could try ignoring that, but with the state of the internet these days that's damn near impossible.

Now do you really think that being disappointed there won't be more seasons compares equally to the feelings of those who are deeply angry, hurt, and betrayed? Is it really that hard to imagine why they want to stop future seasons, in order to not have to relive those feelings and have the chance to grieve and move on?

As I've said I realize this is a TV show, but it's also been so, so much more than simple TV show to many people. Maybe you think it's stupid or don't understand the attachment, but if you have a heart and empathy can you at least try to understand the driving factors of those of us who don't want to see future seasons and be sympathetic, empathetic, or at least a little less angry?
