For any who haven’t visited the part of the world I live in, and/or haven’t seen images and video of this bird, this is an EMU. (It is a native of the land mass that was called Australia after colonisation. Everyone might know about emus but I try to avoid assuming, and presuming as little as my self-awareness allows)..... They are gregarious birdies and can get on well with humans but - check out the beak and feet. These dudes are not to be messed with. Though it’s small, there is a mortality rate! They attack/defend by “eviscerating”. I was lucky to live close to a wildlife reserve - #blackbuttreserve (Newcastle) - years ago and enjoying walking along their enclosure, which often meant they would walk along with me.
