This is a rebuke from me to myself. Some of my favourite animals are Australian and some aren’t. Albino echidnas are not common, God bless ‘em - but they do exist. The legs and feet representing yours truly prove I don’t flatter myself.😆I have long feet but they’re hopefully not proportional to the dimensions here! My focus was to represent the new Marc Newson for R M Williams 365 Yard Boot; his designs usually inspire live and longing in me. Come to think of it, he’s also another Australian native😄. I like this colour and I like the idea of this echidna identifying with the colour.I’ll do another version of this because I found this paper is actually NOT water colour paper. #watercolour #aquarelle #schminke #sennelier #fabercastell #fabercastellpolychromos #australianfauna #wildlife #echidna #marcnewson #yardboot365 #rmwilliams #australianmade #animallovers #australiandesign #illustration #illustrator #australianillustrators #simonefraser #banglesshouldjangle #simonefraserartist https://www.instagram.com/p/B5lnwCZHFQ5/?igshid=17omloxvje4s3

This is a cassowary, and today is World Cassowary Day. The cassowary is Australia's heaviest bird, it's flightless and it IS the most important bird to inhabit the rainforests of northeastern Australia. Why? Cassowaries are frugivores and are extremely helpful to the rainforest fruit that makes up their diet. So significant to seed dispersal are they that a seed that passes through a cassowary's gut has a 92% chance of germination, compared to one that falls to the forest floor at a 4% chance. Unfortunately they're an endangered species, as are 70 of the 150 plant species that make up the cassowary's diet. The survival of this bird species is paramount! I could go on forever and ever about this bird but I'll leave the "more info" up to you. The Australian Pavylot: A Desert Marvel🌴
!Australian Pavylot
Appearance:
The Australian Pavylot (Pavylotus australis) is a small, elusive creature native to the arid landscapes of Australia.
Its most striking feature is its bright yellow, fluffy fur, which helps it blend seamlessly into the sun-kissed desert environment.
These little animals have long, padded paws that allow them to climb trees effortlessly. Their sharp nails provide excellent grip on the rough bark.
Survival Adaptations:
In the harsh Australian deserts, survival is a delicate balance. The Pavylot’s padded paws help it traverse the rocky terrain, while its fur provides insulation against extreme temperatures.
These creatures are masters of camouflage, often disappearing into the golden sands during the scorching daytime hours.
Their diet consists of insects, seeds, and occasional fruits found in the desert, making them well-adapted to their arid home.
Gender Differences:
Females are slightly smaller than males. They have pointed ears and a distinctive white chest.
Males, on the other hand, are slightly larger. They sport round ears and exhibit significant grey cheeks and grey-white paws and chest.
The Australian Pavylot embodies resilience, resourcefulness, and the ability to thrive in the harshest of conditions. Next time you wander through the Australian outback, keep an eye out for these remarkable creatures!
Growing up in Normandy we were told that spiders come into the house at the start of autumn. 10 years into our apartment here on Boon Wurrung Country and first time we have an autumnal friend visiting us - a medium size huntsman who granted us a visit last night! A beauty, although we were happy to release it in the block garden after about half hour! 🕷️ #spiderlove #spider #nativewildlife #nativefauna #australianfauna (at Boon Wurrung Country) https://www.instagram.com/p/CphkB_wvVOc/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
