OMG MAGISTERIUM I SWEAR NO ONE ELSE I KNOW HAS READ IT WHATS YOUR THOUGHTS
I LOVE it, but I also know its reskinned wbwl, James lives, Harry Potter au and that just makes it so much better imo. I think the whole friend group reads as a throuple doomed to third-wheelership by the genre and that makes me so sad. The magic system still reads as fairly unique aesthetically despite being fairly standard, and despite the representation not being too great it meant a lot to me as a kid with a shit left leg to have a cool and fun protagonist who's left leg was fucked up and wasn't relegated to disabled trope hell
here we are again
so I'm back from the dead in order to write another magisterium fic, so if anyone is still here enjoy
Call knew what a bad day felt like. He knew the pain that would erupt in his leg the second he left his bed and he knew what the burn in his ankles meant. Call wasn’t unaware that he could just sleep the day away. Master Rufus would surely excuse him, understanding that getting up every morning wasn’t as simple for Call as it was for anyone else.
But that meant admitting that something was wrong. In his lifetime so many things had been held away from him due to his leg. Football, jumping, field trips to parks, recess. He wouldn’t let his leg take this away from him as well. Then he remembered the first time we used air to support his leg to walk. That had been heaven…
Casual disability representation in the magisterium series
Okay but like can we just discuss the fact that the disability rep in the magisterium series is top notch? It's not overwhelming, it adds to the plot, it's important to who Call is but it's not his only character trait, it influences how other characters perceive him and their characterization, without being used as a plot device but it isn't ignored either. (Okay so it's a little ignored but it's way better than the majority of books that try something like this). The experiences and reactions he has are also really accurate, At least from my perspective as a person with cerebral palsy and chronic pain.
Fire wants to burn Water wants to flow Air wants to rise Earth wants to bind Chaos wants to devour Cal wants to live
The Iron Trial, Cassandra Clare and Holly Black
The Magesterium series, I feel, has always been so underappreciated. I remember reading The Bronze Key in it’s entirety the day it came out.
