Okay (okay means I had to go through my fics to find a good dialogue haha). I really like the dialogue in the end of the first chapter of Nothing in the Mirror, when we, the reader speak to Steve and Bucky for the first time.[Â The driver mustâve been new or the traffic just really bad or something, because he started to go and a half a second later, stopped again, making you fall the whole way back. Into the blonde. Oh great.âOh, and here we go againâ, he mumbled and his friend scratched his neck, smiling as well.âSorry. I really didnât want to-âYou stepped back a few steps, scanning your surrounding for a grab handle to hold onto.âNah, donât worryâ, he smiled and looked very genuine saying that. It was strange, you felt like youâd seen his face and this square jaw before, but you couldnât actually lay a finger on where you knew him from. You sent a look to the front of the bus, where the bus driver gesticulated wildly. He was about to enter a roundabout that, typical for rush hour, didnât offer much space for a bus. Finally, he made a move, though, still complaining, of course, just to send you flying again.âI canât believe itâ, you mumbled, blushing a lot harder this time, because this time the blonde had seen it coming and caught you like a guy caught his girlfriend in the smoochy- area of an airport. This was so silly.âAnd there she is. Just canât stay away from me, huh?â, he chuckled and made you laugh. He seemed kind and as easy as you could tell the mood of a small child, you could see he was just joking around, making the best of this situation.âWell, someone is pushy todayâ, his friend grinned, nudging his head towards the driver.âI donât mindâ, said the blonde when noticing your discomfort. âIâm Steve, by the way.ââAnd Iâm Jamesâ, the other one winked, sending Steve a look. James leaned forward as if to tell you a secret. âJust wanted to let you know, in case you come flying again. I wouldnât mind one of your hugs either, doll.âHis comment made you laugh and his face lit up watching you. The bus finally made it through the roundabout without any kinds of stops or sudden changes and some kids in the back started clapping. All three of you chuckled and you finally dared to take a step back, out of Steveâs embrace.âYou smell really niceâ, he commented. Aw, he really made making compliments feel so easy. Not that you were bad at making them either. Compliments arenât hard when the kindness behind them is genuine.âThanks. I would tell you the same, but I was, um.ââDistractedâ, James offered, having just a little too much fun right now. You huffed.âI mean, you shouldâve told me before. I didnât think about smelling your cologne. Sorry, I guess now youâll never know.â Because now, youâd hold onto the grips in the bus and no, you wouldnât let go and crash into Steve again.âArenât you adorable today.ââExcuse you. That was rudeâ, you scolded James, before adding, âIâm always adorable, please.âYou grinned and Steve laughed out loud, throwing his head back and grabbing his chest. If you hadnât laughed before, you sure did now, because him laughing was hilarious.âSo, whatâs your name, beautiful?â, James asked.âOh yeah. I-âJust then you flew forward again, but you stumbled and flew straight into James.]
The dialogue is kinda cute kinda banter-ish and Bucky and Steve are adorable dorks. I like this dialogue especially because it was so easy to write in that moment. I just⌠dipped into the flow, you know? I just wrote it and it was kinda perfect to me. It sounded nice and funny and I fell in love with that character and Steve and Bucky and the whole drabble, which resulted in me taking the drabble further, making it a fic (it still isnât finished, I am very sorry for not updating). It just felt so good writing it (I actually wrote the first eight? chapters in one going). That drabble and that dialogue were such an important step for me as a writer, because it really encouraged me to go and write great things and really show them to you guys. :)
