Series Title/AU: My Baby Brother is the Strongest Character
<<read the synopsis and content warnings first>>
Pairing/Relationship: isekaid!older sister!Reader x Gun Park, nurse!Reader x platonic! J High students
Time is fuzzy and memories are unreliable, and above all else, you needed money, so even after you realized that the high school that hired you was J High, the place where Lookism started, you couldnât leave.
The first year was uneventful. By this worldâs standards, anyway.
Even though the troublemaking and trouble-attracting protagonists were yet to attend the school, this was still Lookism. Bullying was prevalent as ever.Â
You tried your best to help, though maybe âhelpâ sounded too generous. You didnât do anything special, if anything it was a matter of not doing anything: you never sent back students who wobbled into the clinic, lying about feeling sick. You just sat around while some of them vented their life problems to you. You didnât do anything exceptional, and yet, somehow, the school has come up with a name for youâ
âItâs the Angel of J High!â
âUwah, sheâs so young, I was expecting some middle-aged hag to be our school nurse.â
âYou know, my sister told me that after she complained about her cheating boyfriend to the Angel, he went down on his knees the next day and promised never to do it again. Theyâre both working at the same company and still going strong!â
âOh, Iâm so jealous, maybe I should ask Miss Angel for guidanceâŚâ
Angel, my ass! Okay, maybe you didnât do ânothingâ exactly, but lending an ear and giving a handful of teenagers vague life advice was far from the divine intervention that they made it up to be.Â
You bit your lip, ignoring the whispers but nodding to any student that greeted you.Â
âGood morning, nurse!â
âHi, noona!â
âMorning, Miss Angel!â
Shut it, you brats! Stop spreading that ridiculous angel rumor and let me slack off in peace!Â
You longed for the days when only one or two kids would hide in the clinic. But as the years went by, you were less the school nurse and more like Freud with a full scheduleâor one of those scam shamans on TV.
You picked up your pace, ears burning from the cheesiness of it all, eager to get some shut-eye before the brats filed inâ
âOw!â
Your face hit a wall, no, a person.Â
A student. A male student who was lean and, as you continued craning your neck, tall as hell. He had thick, shiny black hair styled in a very familiar way.
âIâŚIâm so sorry! Are you all right?â
âHey, kid.â
âY-yes?!â
âWhatâs your name?â
âOh, um⌠Itâs Park. Daniel Park.â
Thud.
Your purse hit the pavement.Â
You knew this day would come, but you werenât ready to quit this job. Even with your savings, inflationâs a bitch and you just had your AC fixed. Not to mention, you were worried about leaving behind certain studentsâŚ
âI like your bag charm.â Daniel patted the dust off your purse and handed it to you. âI-itâs really cute, what breed is it?â
You offered him a customer service smile. âItâs a Doberman.â
Farewell, my peaceful days.Â
Or so you thought.
It has been a week since the main character started attending J High but the two of you didnât cross paths again. The number of students visiting you during breaks have doubled though.
âExcuse me.â Soft knocks on the clinic door interrupted your lunch.Â
With a sigh, you told them to come in.
A girl stepped inside. âHelloâŚâ
âStomachache? Or do you need sanitaryââ
âNo! No⌠My name is Zoe Park and Iâm here becauseâŚumâŚâ
You knew what she was here for. âWell, donât just stand there. Come in and take a seat.â
Every newcomer was like this. They would twiddle their thumbs, hesitate and get all shy. Sometimes they would run away before you got the chance to ask them what was wrong, but you could tell that this girl has been gathering her courage for weeks now.Â
You just wanted to eat your sandwich.Â
âYou look like somethingâs on your mind.â
âI haveâŚa friend and she has a problem.â
Yeah, right. âGo on.â
âMy friend has a crush on this guy, but sheâs worried because thereâs another girl in the picture. SheâsâŚaggressive and doesnât think twice about making the first move. She also has a job so she buys gifts for myâmy friendâs crush.â
âSo your friend is jealous.â
âYes, she is. Sheâs worried because she really likes this boy but what if he ends up falling for someone else.â
Ah, young love. You wanted to throw up, but luckily, youâve built up an immunity after working with teenagers for so long. âThis boy must be a real player to have two girls pining for him.â
âHeâs not a player!â She flinched and apologized before muttering, âHeâs not like those guys who string girls along for fun. Sure, heâs handsome but heâs also sweet and thoughtful.â
âMm~ sounds to me like your friend has another rival.â
She blushed and looked away. âA-anyway, what should she do?â
âDear, does that boy like the other girl back?â
âI donât know.â
âDoes he know that you like him back?â
She said nothing.
âIâm not going to say âgo and confess,â I know itâs not that simple.â
âThen what should I do?â It seemed that she was asking herself more than you.
â...donât overthink it.â
âHuh?â
âThis guy isnât in a relationship yet, right? Well, thereâs a saying in the West: âall is fair in love and war.â If you want to defeat your rivals, you need to be more proactive.â
âY-youâre right! Iâll get a job and buy him gifts, too!â
âWait, noââ
âIâve been meaning to get a job anyway!â
âYou mean your friendâs been meaning to get a job?â
âAh. AhahahaâŚâ She rose from her chair and bowed. âThank you for listening to me.â
âHey, wait, before you goââ
âYes?â
As a reader of the story, you used to hate Zoe because she was mean and superficial, but she became your favorite after she changed and became a better person. However, that change came at a priceâshe was stalked and almost murdered because of her future job. â...thereâs been a rise of weirdos in the area so be careful when youâre out at night.â
âI will, thank you so much, unnie!â[1]
And just like that, she was gone.Â
As usual, people will hear what they want to hear.Â
You rubbed your temples. You wanted to tell her not to waste her money on something as foolish as boys, but you guess this was part of youth too.Â
âI hope it works out for her,â you mumbled, hoping your words wonât mess up Zoeâs development.
***
âAnd you areââ
âZack! Zack Lee, maâam!â
âThereâs no need to shout, plus I already know who you are.â You fixed him up after his first fight with Daniel.
âIâm sorry, maâam.â
âAnd donât call me that. Makes me feel old.â
âR-right.â
âWell, what brings you back here, Zack? You donât look injured to me so Iâm guessing youâre here to talk.â
There was a beat before he took a few steps back away from you and then knelt down on the floor. âPlease teach me how to court a girl.â
âUhââ
âHear me out, please! Thereâs this girl Iâve liked for a really long time, and I think she likes me too, and we go out together just the two of usâbut itâs always as friends. I want to confess, but I donât know how. Please help me, please!â
âOkay, fine! Just calm down!â
***
Two boys, one of them looked old enough to be a father and the other had Dumbo ears, stepped inside. You knew exactly who they were.
They bowed in unison. âGood afternoon, miss.â
âYes, hello. Are you feeling sick?â
âPlease let us introduce ourselves first. Iâm Jace Park and this is my friend, Euntae Lee, but we call him Vasco.âÂ
âOkay, why donât you two take a seat firstââ
Vasco fell to his knees and kissed the floor with his forehead. âPlease, madam, teach me how to attract girls!â
Jace grabbed him by the shoulders. âVasco, no! We talked about this, you canât surprise her like that!â
âPlease, I want to experience a sweet romance, too!â
You and me both, buddy.
Sighing, you gestured towards the monoblocks. âCome on, sit down.â
***
Jay Hong sat in front of you like he was sent to the principalâs office after doing something bad. He hasnât said a word since he knocked at your door, or maybe he did and you didnât have Danielâs telepathy.Â
He looked troubled though.
How should you deal with thisâŚ
âLetâs see, is this about a classmate?â
His head shot up.Â
You were right!
âIs this about a male classmate?â
He nodded.
âSomething tells me itâs not about bullying.â
He shook his head.
âOkay, hold on, lemme think⌠Are you struggling with certain feelings about this classmate?â
He looked down and twiddled his thumbs shyly.
Right.Â
You swallowed the desire to laugh, not wanting to embarrass him. âHe must be a very special person.â
He raised his head again, smiling.
***
Another week passed and Zoe was back in the clinic, looking redder than before.Â
âHi Zoeââ
âGood morning!â
â...anything interesting happened to you lately?â
âWhat? No, why would you think that!â
âItâs written all over your face, you know,â you teased her. âYou got the face of a young woman in love.â
She squeaked and covered her face. âPlease donât say that!â
âDid you finally get together with your crush?â
âNo, actuallyâŚthereâs someone newâŚâ
âJudging by that lovestruck expression, he must be really charming.â
âNâwell, yes. Heâs a little chubby, but heâs cute and brave and kind.â
âHeh~â
âPlease donât look at me like that!â
Every now and then you got a kick out of the kidsâ reactions.Â

Words cannot do justice how much I simp for this man, please why are the Lookism verse characters so good lookingđ
With the sort of nonsense he's had to endure during his lifetime battling yakuza bosses and gangsters and unruly teenagers with the ego complex larger than Zeus himself, he has a pretty good reason to be protective and possessive and obsessive of you. The man here just wants to keep you safe at all costs no matter what and will do anything to ensure your safety, even if it means getting his hands dirty, for the sake of you to be happy. He just genuinely loves you. A lot to the extent that he's willing to murder people over it
He might have a stoic and aloof exterior and personality at times but he's a soft man at heart. He's someone who understands the passion of romance and he'll feel the flame of love igniting deep within his soul whenever he thinks of you. After all he's the one who's convinced Warren to love someone even if it's only temporary because in his opinion, a man truly becomes a beast and most powerful when he has a loved one to protect. This ex soldier here was quite lonely for a while without having a partner. He didn't really want to have a partner with raising his daughter Minji and him being worried about how she'd adapt to the new changes. However when Minji suggested he find himself a partner he was stunned to hear that from his daughter and decides to give it a shot anyway
A few days later he bumps into you, you work at the local bakery downtown and the second he steps inside your bakery, he's surrounded with warmth and the heavenly scent of baked goods lingering in the atmosphere as a soft smile forms on his face when his eyes land on you. You were busy baking some muffins and you had a pretty apron around your waist as you spotted him and waved towards him. When you smiled at him politely and greeted him and noted down his order, which was a red velvet cake with 2 blue berry muffins and 2 chocolate chip cookies, you mentioned that it might take a while to make. He didn't mind waiting honestly, it would give him an excuse to be in your bakery more and admire you. He struck up a light conversation with you and found growing attached to you rather quickly. However he did get slightly concerned when you told him that you lived alone, why would you live alone? There are so many dangerous things happening around the area in the country and you're living alone? That's something he's not too thrilled to hear about
You hand him his order in a box as your soft warm fingers brushes against his rough large calloused ones and he feels something warm creeping up inside him. A fuzzy warm feeling, a familiar spark and jolt of electricity and passion that he thought he might never get to feel before. His heart twinged slightly as he bade you a goodbye and sighed as he walked out of your bakery. However he started heading over to your bakery everyday, sometimes just to make conversation with you since he does find your company and presence rather pleasant. He doesn't want to burden you with the stories of his past from when he was Code 66 back during his military days nor does he want to tell you that he works at the white tiger job center for a certain fighting obsessed lunatic since he doesn't want to scare you off. He wants to protect you and shelter you from the bad things that keep happening. He can see the glimmer of innocence in your eyes, something that's quite rare these days since most people he's encountered were just plain egoistic corrupt people. But you're so different...a ray of sunshine in a dark world filled with chaos and entropy
He's an ex soldier with God tier fighting and detective skills. He'll ask Hansu to find out some information regarding you, ignoring the teasing from Jincheol about how he's fallen head over heels in love with you already. He just sighs and pointedly looks at him but he doesn't deny it. Hansu will end up finding everything about you in less than an hour and he'll have pages and pages of your biodata for Kim to take a look at. Kim knows he's being a bit out of line here but he just can't help but be curious. If you're in any kind of trouble or whatever he'll take care of the problem quickly. If someone's harassing after you or you have a creepy landlord, well good news for you because you don't need to pay your rent next month. Just ignore the broken bones and the bruises on the landlord given to him by a certain man who comes over to your bakery everyday
Have you seen this man fight? His kill ratio is insane, there's a reason people shiver when they're facing him against a fight. He might be soft and affectionate and warm towards you but when it comes to dealing with people to protect you, he'll be absolutely ruthless and will give zero damns who he's up against. He'll use his string and his fighting skills and put that person in the hospital for a while. Or just straight up murder them, depends on the sort of crime they do to you. Either way he will not relax or let it go if someone messes with you and harms even a single strand of hair on your pretty little head. When he goes on a murder rampage, not even Hansu and Jincheol would be able to stop him which is why they just let him do his own thing. Oh, and speaking of Hansu and Jincheol, congratulations, you now have them both looking out for you as well
His obsessive and possessive feelings for you would start when he feels like you're in danger from something. He'll invite you to stay over at his house for a few days and you can't even refuse him because the way he speaks will make you doubt yourself whether or not you're truly able to take care of yourself. You don't get a choice in this matter, you're staying with him and that's final. It's also a good time to introduce you to Minji. However little did you know, both father and daughter were obsessed with you. Minji greets you with a polite smile and she's finally glad she got to meet the person who's made her dad happy. She's another one who's willing to do whatever the hell it takes to ensure you'll stay with her dad. She's a sneaky one, if your coworkers are messaging you things she's not too pleased about, she'll sneakily delete their number from your phone and make it seem like you blocked them on social media. You're supposed to be with her dad, not some other undeserving person
Breakfast, lunch and dinner include you sitting with them and having your meal. Of course, no phone during that special time. Kim would love to do the cooking, he'll cook the best meals ever to ensure you have a good meal. He does get slightly tempted to embrace you from the back at times and kiss the nape of your neck softly while you're busy doing the dishes while Minji is secretly smirking to herself about how things are going well and how you're a part of their family now
If you try to go back to work, Kim might be a bit disgruntled at first but he'll allow you to do so to not seem controlling. However he'll fill your head with things like how you don't need to earn when he's there to take care of you and you could take a break for a while and such. He just wants to take care of you and shower you with his love. Minji would side with her dad too. They both are possessive over you, they know they're being possessive but they're overlooking it. It's for your safety after all. If you try leaving them, Minji would be hurt and upset and Kim would be hurt and devastated too. But he'd be determined to bring you back and it wouldn't take him long for him to find you. He'll just carry you in his arms and you can throw all the tantrums you want but he's not going to budge while he's taking you back home with him where you belong. He won't yell at you or raise his voice at you, he doesn't believe in hurting the ones he loves. But he'll gently chide you like a stern parent telling off a naughty child for their bad behavior. The next day the locks of the house will be changed and there'll be bars on the windows to prevent you from leaving
He's not completely heartless to prevent you from going outside either. He knows and understands you feel trapped which is why you'll still be allowed to go out. Provided it's with him or Minji. No more going out on your own, not even to the grocery store that's ten minutes away from the house either. However when it comes to someone taking you away from him...I want to say I hope they might be safe but who am I kidding at this point. He'll literally obliterate them from his path. How dare they mess with you, they'll literally pay with their lives. Or bones. He can't bear to see you cry, it hurts his heart. Minji and Kim would be on either side of you hugging you while you cry as Kim will gently brush away your tears and lovingly caress your cheek. You're his and he'd do anything to make sure it stays that way...

Content/Trigger Warning: implied child abuse
âOnee-san,â Gun called, running to your veranda with a basket. âI got you cookies. But I couldnât find any milkââ
The sliding door to your bedroom was open. You were sitting with your back to him, but you were holding up a mirror so he caught your reflection.
When he met your eyes, you put down the mirror. You didnât turn around as you spoke, âYouâre early.â Your voice was higher than usual. âThank you, but I-Iâm not feeling well so can we talk later? I promise to make it up to you.â
âYour faceâŚâ
âIâm sorry, I didnât want to worry you.â You finally turned around and his heart stopped. Your eye was swollen shut. You were grinning and talking but you refused to look at him. âIâm such a klutz, I slipped and hit the floor. But I'll be fine, promise. I just need some ice. Thank you for the cookies, don't worry about the milk, I got us something from the convenience store. Let me go find it.â
Those wounds canât possibly be accidental. Gun saw those bruises on a daily basis, on the people he personally humiliated.
âWhat the hell is that?â
âItâs a bento.â[1]
âItâs a homemade bento.âÂ
âSo your eyes arenât completely useless. Congrats.â
âSince when did you carry around Pompompurin lunchboxes?â
When Gun didnât say anything, Goo snatched off the lid, yelling âSneak attack!â
He paused. He blinked. He took off his glasses, wiped them with his sleeve, then slipped them on again. He gawked at the poorly made tamago and unevenly cut octopus sausages.[2] Gun Park was a perfectionist, he even cut his apple slices into bunnies, but this was one sad display.Â
âDid you make this?â
Gun didnât answer.
âI knew it! Itâs her, isnât it? That, that woman of yours that you refuse to name. She has you wearing poor peopleâs clothes and carrying a Sanrio lunchboxâwhich is kinda cute, I will admitâbut youâre an adult man for Godâs sake! Youâve been emasculated!â
Gun retrieved the lunchbox lid from him.Â
âAnd look at your hairâyou donât even comb it back anymore. Iâve been trying to get you to let it down for years and suddenly sheâs got you doing it?â
âGo order your noodles or Iâll eat without you.â
âI donât believe this, youâre really going to eat this crap? Iâve seen convenience store waste that looked tastier.â
âJoongooâŚget lost before I kill you.â
âHeh, youâre going to kill me? At least I finally got you to look at me and away from your phone.â
âYou have to be the neediest woman I know.â
âSay that again, I dare you. Iâm going to cut out your tongue.â
âTry me. Iâm gonna break your hands for touching my lunch.â
âYou fucking simp!â
âYou nosy bitch!â
***
You received an SOS message from Goo pleading with you to come to his hotel suite, a five-star hotel with gargantuan crystal chandeliers in the lobby and a receptionist that gave you the stink eye. At least this place didnât need a key card for the elevator.
You found his room and rang the bell.
When the door opened, you were welcomed by a blood-soaked towel. âAngel!â He spoke through the towel, voice nasally.
You held his chin by instinct. A few superficial cuts, a black eye and a nose that required resetting. There were very few people alive who could injure Goo this badly. âYou really should go to the ER for this.â
âBut you smell nice and you donât charge.â Beat. âYou donât charge, right?â
âNo, I donât. Iâm using the schoolâs infirmary supply. We got tons of troublemakers and no one ever bothers to check the inventory.â
âYou are bad.â
âYup, Iâm a criminal.â
Goo ushered you inside and you had him sit next to the dining table. Aside from his nose and a sprained wrist, he sustained no other major injuries, so you cleaned him up and gave him ice from the fridge.
âYouâre lucky youâre cute,â you muttered as you threw away the used cotton balls. âOtherwise I wouldâve ignored your message completely. Iâm a busy woman, you know.â
âWith what, studying?â
âFalling asleep during a very serious TV marathon.â
âDrama?â
âMurder mystery.â
He raised an eyebrow.Â
âI donât like drama, it ruins my day.â
âBut murder doesnât?â
You shrugged.
âWhatâs the show called?â
âItâs American, I donât think youâd like it.â
âYou donât know that.â
âItâs esoteric.â
âQuit gatekeeping and tell me.â
âI just donât want to recommend a show I love and then have you bitch about how boring or nonsensical it is.â You placed a sachet of pills on the table and picked up your first aid kit. âThe medicine is for the pain. See ya.â
âHey, wait.â He grabbed your kit and you almost fell backward.
You blinked and he was towering over you, holding you by the waist. âWhoops.âÂ
âDamn. That wouldâve been the perfect opportunity for a lawsuit.â
âToo bad for you. But I donât want you to go home empty-handed, letâs order room service.â
You narrowed your eyes.
âDonât give me that look. I know how to treat my friends.â He handed you the leatherbound booklet containing the menu and other amenities being offered. âSo what do you say?â
âWell, as long as I donât have to payâŚâ He didnât need to bribe you. You could spend hours observing Goo Kimâs expressions.
âAwesome!âÂ
***
After devouring the lobster meal, you two sat on the sofa and watched Murder, She Wrote.
Goo was surprised that he actually enjoyed watching an old lady solve crime in the 90s.
âI knew it! I knew that guest star was going to be the killer.â
â...â
âAngel?â
He looked away from the screen, only to find your head lolling to the side. He slipped a pillow under your temple before he muted the TV.Â
âI canât believe she passed out just like that. Lol. Sheâs lucky Iâm a gentleman.â He leaned against the backrest. âHm⌠sheâs prettier than I remember..."
Your phone started ringing and he swiped it off the coffee table. The caller ID said âKiddo.â Probably one of the students. He turned back to you. The circles around your eyes told him to set the device to vibrate.Â
He grabbed a pillow and stared at you until he fell asleep.Â
âHey!â Goo woke up on the floor.Â
At some point you moved from sitting against the backrest to lying facedown on the sofa cushions.Â
âKicked out of my own couch and not even by my girlfriend, this is a new low.â He rubbed his elbow. âAnd what is that annoying buzzing?â
It was your phone, still on vibrate. The battery had been reduced to a quarter of its life and there were 198 text messages plus 89 missed calls.Â
âCanât this guy take a hint?âÂ
He glanced over to you, then glared at the phone. It was ten p.m. Maybe he should tell this brat off. A gentleman shouldnât answer a ladyâs phone, but you did seem to struggle with setting boundaries. After all, your patience for Goo himself seemed limitless, a feat that could put the likes of Mother Theresa to shame.Â
So maybe you needed this intervention.
Thatâs it! Thatâs right.
âPerfect reasoning as always, Goo,â he huffed with pride and answered the next call.Â
âHey, kid, donât you know what time it is? You canât keep calling the school nurse like this, youâll get her into trouble! I know sheâs hot but you gotta fish in your own pond, yâknow? Stick to your age group.â He hung up without waiting for a reply.
The doorbell rang, which puzzled him because he couldâve sworn he hit the âdo not disturbâ button.
As he went to check, the phone vibrated again.
âEnough already, brat! I didnât want to say this because we were trying to keep it quiet, but sheâs taken, okay? Iâm her boyfriend so why donât you goâŚâÂ
There was no maid behind the door.
âGun? Did you forget something?â
Gun Park held his own phone to his ear. His black eyes shot from left to right, stopping at the sofa.
âIf youâre here to apologizeââ
âJoongoo Kim, get ready.â Gun took off his shades. âIâm going to bury you.â
***
You were back in Japan, leaning over the pond outside your room. Â
âHi Nugget,â you greeted the goldfish. The fish didnât speak, of course, only swam around hypnotically, each flick of his tail left wisps of glitter in the water. You could watch him all day.
But then, a blonde fox wearing human glasses hopped into your yard. It made brief eye contact with you before a giant black dog with angry scars arrived, barking furiously.
The fox threw back his head, laughing, and then leapt around the garden. The dog chased after it. You watched with awe, it was like being in a Tom and Jerry skit. You applauded as they tore through the bushes and flowers, but then the fox dove into the pond and swallowed your fishâ
âNugget, noâŚ! Ah?â You jerked awake. For a moment, you were lost, then your memories caught up with you.Â
You went to Gooâs hotel room to help with his injuries, then you ate lobster, then you watched TV together, then fell asleepâ
âWhat the hell is your problem, man!?â Goo shouted and you hurriedly sat up.Â
A dining room chair was in pieces, there was an ugly collection of fist-shaped indentations on the walls, broken glass was everywhereâ
Your heart sank into your stomach. Gunâs back faced you as he approached Goo. His whole body was tense and you could see the veins threatening to pop down his arms.Â
You figured out what happened instantly.Â
âIs this because of lunch?â Goo reached for the floor lamp. âI told you I didnât mean to knock it over. I even offered to buy you something better!âÂ
Gun took a step forward but you slid between them, holding up your arms sideways.Â
You heard Goo click his tongue. âMove outta the way, angel!â
You sprang on your toes and wrapped your arms around your brother. âIâm okay,â you whispered.
Gunâs whole body flinched, but he was still wound up so you rubbed gentle circles on his back. âIâm not hurt, so please breathe and calm down.â
He closed his eyes and inhaled.
âThatâs the wayâjust breathe for me.âÂ
He laid his forehead on your shoulder.
âIâm okay. Iâm right here,â you cooed.Â
He raised his head and cupped your face with both hands. He regarded you with wide and worried eyes, looking like a lost child.
âIâm okay, see?â You sucked in your cheeks, emulating a fish. âEven Nugget would agree.â
The faintest sound escaped him and he pulled you in for another hug.
âI was so worriedâŚâ
âI know, Iâm sorry.â
âI thought youââ
âIâm okay, Gun. I promise.â
You squeezed him gently, reminding him that you were very much alive. Gun exhaled and he was back to normal.Â
âIâd hate to interrupt such a touching moment butââ
You both looked behind you. Goo was holding the lamp like a spear.
ââwhat the fuck was that?!â
âDonât swear at her, you rude fuck.â
âHUH?!â
âAnd donât point that lamp at her.â
âYou canât possibly be angry at me, right? You son of a gun, you know how much damageâlook at this place!â
You pulled away from Gunâs embrace and clasped your hands together. âLetâs all calm down first.â
âWait.â You raised your arm between them. âStop it, Gun. Youâre in the wrong here.â
He glared at Goo.
âGun.â
He stepped back and mumbled, âIâm sorry, nee-san.â
âWell, this is partially my fault so donât worry. Weâll fix it together.â
âWait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Back upâânee-sanâ? As in big sister? Youâre Gunâs sister? The one who died? That sister?â
You could only smile.
âHoly shit.â
Gun tugged on your sleeve. âHow do you know this bag of turd?â
You sighed and then motioned for them to sit around the coffee table as you searched for the complimentary teabags.Â
While the water boiled, you explained the circumstances that led to your friendship with Goo and why you ended up in his hotel suiteâit almost led to another fight, but the clicking of the electric kettle stopped them.
âThis is what Iâm talking about, nee-san, you are too nice. I told you that one of these days you were gonna attract a weirdo. Now you got the biggest freak of them all.â
âYou hear the way he talks to me, angel? Heâs supposed to be my friend.â
âDonât call her angel.â
âYou wouldnât let me call her onee-chanââ
âDonât call her anything. Donât even look in her direction. Donât even think of her. After tonight, youâre dead to us.â
âExcuse me? Your memory canât be that bad. We all just agreed that Iâm the victim here so you have no right to be mad.â
âWe didnât agree to shit.â
âYouâre paying for these damagesââ
âThe hell I amââ
âWeâll split it three ways,â you cut in.Â
âWhat?â They turned to you in unison.Â
âI shouldnât have fallen asleep and worried my brother, that was my mistake, and Gun should have never attacked you in the first place. But Goo shouldnât have answered my calls without permission.â
âButââ
âWeâre all going to pay for it.â Your teacup made a nice clink as you set it down. âOkay?âÂ
â...okay.â

a/n: I love Goo and Gun's dynamic. It's something straight out of a sitcom. I was debating whether to go with "Bert and Ernie," "Chandler and Joey," "Troy and Abed" or "Kramer and Seinfeld." Ultimately, I figured Bert and Ernie was the most recognizable.
Anyway, just a heads up: I'm going to have to slow down with the updates from now on so I won't be able to post every day.

Pairing/Relationship: Gun Park
edit: former title was "Blooming Lotus" and it kept bugging me so I changed it.
The bell rang and their teacher clasped her hands together and beamed. âThatâs it for today, everyone. Donât forget your cards and when you get home, give your mom a big hug and tell her how much you appreciate everything she does for you.â
Everyone but Gun raised their hand and chorused, âYes, teacher!â
He stared at the handmade card he crafted during class. Unlike the glue and glitter monstrosities his classmates made, he opted for a simple but elegant off-white paper with folded flowers and the words: âHappy Motherâs Day. Thank you for what you do.â It took him a couple of tries, but with the teacherâs guidance, he managed to make a card that met his standardsâa card that will surely please his mother.
Once he was back at home, he ran straight to his motherâs quarters, holding the card behind his back.Â
He waited giddily for the maids to open the door and announce his presence.
âMother,â he called.
Today, Somi Park was dressed in a pale orange yukata with red flowers, seated properly on the tatami floor with her back straight and her hands folded neatly over her lap. âWelcome home, Gun. What did you do today?â
He bowed before kneeling in front of her. âToday our teacher had us make this.â He fought against his excitement and bowed as he offered her the card with both hands.
Somi took it from him.
Gun felt his heart race and he began to greet her, âHappyââ
The sound of paper tearing interrupted his words and he looked up.
Somi Parkâs smile was cold as she said, âWhy do you insist on wasting time on such frivolous things? You should have practiced your calligraphy instead.â
As he watched the card pieces fall like snow, he recalled his classmatesâ answers when their teacher asked them to describe their mothers:
Mamaâs hugs are the warmestâŚ
Sheâs gentle and prettyâshe kisses my boo-boos away.
Mommy loves me the most in the world!
***
It was Motherâs Day again, and although he didnât want to, Gun joined his classmates in making a card.
The teacher passed by and then did a double take on his table. âI see youâre using glitter this time.â
âYes.â
She tilted her head. âWow, is that a goldfish? Is it the mama or the baby?â
âNo, itâs Nugget.â
âNugget?â
âOur pet goldfish.â He then blew the excess glitter off the page. âApparently, we call him that because Nugget gives good advice, otherwise known as ânuggets of wisdom,â but I think itâs because Nugget resembles a chicken nugget.â
Holding back her laughter, the teacher nodded and Gun reached for the cup of gel pens.
âWhat are you writing?â
âIâm not sure.â
âTell me if you need help with the characters.â
âUm, teacher?â He kept glancing between two pens. âDo girls prefer pink or red?â
âLetâs see⌠whatâs your momâs favorite color?â
âMy mom?â
The teacher tilted her head. âWell, you are making this for her, arenât you?â
He said nothing.
âIf you donât know her favorite, then you pick one for her. Trust your gut. Itâs a very valuable trait for a man to be able to choose for the women in his life,â she encouraged before getting called away by another pupil.Â
Gun put down the pens and stared at the card he thought he didnât want to make. It was the opposite of what he wanted last year: the base was a gentle blue and he overloaded it with green origami leaves and pink flowers, on the front page was his clumsy drawing of Nugget, glittering orange and gold. The only thing missing was a message.Â
When the bell rang, everyone rose to their feet, bowed and sprinted out of the classroom, everyone except Gun, who stopped by his teacherâs desk.
âIs something wrong?â
âTeacherâŚâ
âYes?â
âDo I have to give the card to my mother?â
Her head jerked, taken aback by the question, but she regained her composure immediately and smiled. âYou know, Gun, a mother doesnât always have to be our mothers.â
âWhat do you mean?â
âA mother is anyone who is kind, loving and supportive to us, it can be whoever inspired you to make the card youâre holding so protectively to your chest right now.â
He blushed.Â
âDid that help you?â
âI think so.â
âAll right then. Go on now, Iâm sure your chauffeur and guards are getting worried.â
Gun bowed. âThank you, teacher.â
When he exited the building, three men in black were in front of the gates, eyeing down the security guard until they saw Gun.Â
The three men greeted him in unison, âYoung master.â
âLetâs goâoh.â Gun gazed at the security guard.
He then bowed, shocking everyone. Gunâs uncle and mother taught him never to lower his head for anyone outside the family, but he was discovering many new things, like how his family wasnât always right.Â
âThank you for your hard work, mister.â
âUh, sure. No problemâŚâ
Gun turned to the men in suits. âLetâs go home.â
âYes, young master.â
The trip back home felt abnormally long. Gun tapped his foot the whole way.Â
When he finished with his usual duties, he snuck his way to your garden, to the other wing of the estate.Â
You were sitting on a picnic blanket and leaning over the pond. ââso anyway, I put cat poop in the sandwich. You shouldâve seen that kidâs face when he bit into it. I almost gave myself away and laughed.â
Sheâs talking to the fish again.Â
âAne ue,â he called, stepping into your space.
You looked up and flashed him a bright smile. âWell, look whoâs here. Sit down, and I told you that âonee-sanâ is just fine.â
He approached your blanket but didnât take a seat.
You held up a plastic bag from the convenience store. âThey were selling a new brand of iced tea, letâs try it together.âÂ
Gun wasnât allowed to even enter a convenience store. Everything he ate, drank, woreâeverything had to be the best, from the best. Rather than be impressed, the children in his school regarded him like something was wrong with him.
When he didnât make a move to sit down, you raised a brow. âGun?â
Gathering his courage, he bowed and shoved the card towards you. âThis is for you.â
âEh?â
âItâsâŚitâs something we had to make in school.â
You put down the bag, stood up and accepted the card. As you examined the paper, he felt his cheeks burn. He knew it was childish.
âYou can just throw it away if you want. You donât have to keep itââ
He was pulled into a hug. A warm hand perched on his head. âI can tell you worked hard to make this, Iâll be sure to treasure it.â There was no coldness or mocking in your tone. âThank you, Gun.â
âYou live here alone?âÂ
Gun made a face. You lived in a one-storey, one-bedroom house with too-low a fence and gate that any intruder can climb over.Â
âYup. Make yourself comfortable, Iâll get you some coffee.â
âIâll do thatââ
âYou paid for the barbecue and then the ice cream, let me do this for you.â
He sighed, then smiled. âAll right.â
He sat cross-legged on the living room floor. The house was cheap and he understood why: the ceiling webbed with water stains and he could tell that it leaked during heavy rain, the pipes groaned so loudly he couldnât hear the neighborâs dogs, and the paint was peeling everywhere. He searched for his phone, eager to look up available condos, when he saw several printouts on your coffee table.
âOnline Gambling Patterns and Predictors of Problem Gambling Among Korean Adolescents During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Cross-sectional Study,â
âProblematic online gambling among adolescents: A systematic review about prevalence and related measurement issues,â and
âGambling, Youth and the Internet: Should We Be Concerned?â
He shouted, âWhy are you researching online gambling?â
âOh, that?â you yelled back from the kitchen, âI'll be holding lectures to warn students about scammers and the dangers of betting.â
âWhy?â
âWhy not?â You reappeared with two mugs.Â
âThat doesnât sound like something a nurse is assigned to do.â
âItâs not, technically, but I volunteered.â
âTell me theyâre at least paying you extra.â
âNo, but the teachers have been super supportive and theyâre helping me with my outline.â You set down the mugs and joined him on the floor.
âOkay, why gambling specifically?â
You shrugged. âIf I told you it was a revelation from God, would that satisfy you?â
He sighed, but he couldnât help but smile. He already knew why you volunteered. You called them brats but anyone could tell how much you cared.
He could never understand it. How something as filthy as the Yamazaki blood could give birth to you and Haruto. At least Haruto had his fatherâs love and support, but you were alone in that abandoned wing. You never spoke of it, but he knew the reality you lived. You had to visit the kitchen yourself lest you starve, you said that you enjoyed cleaning your room but the truth was the servants couldnât be bothered, you washed and ironed your own laundry. Unlike him and the rest of the family, you hiked the expanse of the land everyday just to reach the bus station for school.Â
He had âeverything.â Thatâs what they said, but Gun felt like he was born with a leak. No matter what he received or what he did, nothing would ever be enough because everything leaked out.Â
But you didnât have that leak. Your eyes were clear every time you looked at him. Your light never dimmed in the years you spent alone in this country and far from the barest comfort the Yamazakis gave you.Â
âNee-san.â
You paused blowing into your mug. âYeah?â
âHow didâŚâ It was a miracle enough that you survived getting hit and falling into freezing water, but how did you continue after surfacing in Korea?Â
He quickly changed the subject, âI think you should move.â
âIâm perfectly comfortable here, I have my favorite pillow.â
âI meant that you should move houses, this place is a death trap.â
âYouâre overreacting, plus Iâm trying to save money.â
âThen Iâllââ
âNo, absolutely not, donât even suggest it.â
âI canât leave you here alone. Iâve seen the fence, anyone can just break in.â
âI know exactly what you feel. I worried about that when I signed the papers, but itâs been a year and nothingâs happened. Besides, I've decided Iâll stay here and save money for later.â
He picked up his mug. âWhatâs later?â
âFor when I move in with my boyfriend, of course.â You winkedâ
Something hot splattered in his hand and lap.
âOh my God! Are you okay?â You ran over to his side with the box of tissues. âTake off your pants beforeââ
ââyouâŚyou have a boyfriend?â
âWhat? No, I just said that as an example. Hurry up or the burn will get worse!âÂ
Boyfriend. He hadnât thought of that before. You, his precious sister, in a romantic relationship⌠No, he canât picture it. Not without his hands wrapped around that faceless manâs throat.Â

Arc: Lookism Ep. 24 - 26
Ever since that Yamazaki thug hit you in the head and you fell into the ocean, your memories about Lookism lore have beenâŚfuzzy. Sometimes youâd overlook a tiny detail, recounting it only after it has happened. There were times when you actively racked your head for information and found nothing. But the most annoying bouts of amnesia were when your brain itched like it was warning you and tried as you might, you couldnât scratch it, you couldnât find the reason why.
Today was one of those days. Your chest was tight, your stomach was heavy.Â
You held your head between your hands. Your whole body was trying to tell you something but your brain refused to cooperate.Â
âânurse!â
You blinked and found a student at the door.Â
âOh, hey, Duke.â
âIâm sorry for shouting, you didnât hear me.â
âNo, Iâm sorry, I just have a lot on my mind today.â
âAre you all right? I can come backââ
âDonât be silly. Come in and take a seat.â
âThank you.â
âHowâs your grandmother?â
âHer backâs feeling much better now. I tell her to stay in and rest for a few more days but she says that working helps with the pain.â
âThatâs fine, as long as she doesnât overdo it.â You clasped your hands together. âSo, I hear youâll be participating in the festival.â
His face burned but he was smiling. âYes, Iâll be performing an original rap and song with my friend.â
âI canât wait to hear it.â
Pushing your own worries to the back of your mind, you let him spill his heart out without interruption, singing praises to Daniel Park and sharing his plans for the future. Those plans may take a while, but they will definitely come true, though you canât tell him that.
***
Festivals were joyous occasions. It was easy for people to lose themselves in the partying and forget to take care of themselves.
The student volunteers approached the first aid station carrying someone over their shoulders.
âAnother one?â You sighed. âWe have water stations and paper cups, donât we?â
Dehydration. A total moodkiller.Â
âSorry about this, noona.â
âWell, this is my job. Bring him in.â
Luckily, no one was so dehydrated that they required an IV.Â
While you plugged in another electric fan for the patients under the tent, you overheard the volunteers mumbling and arguing with each other.
âUmââ
âWhat now?â
The two exchanged glances and then grinned at you. âNoona, youâve been sitting here since dawn, you should enjoy the festival, too.â
âWeâll take over for you.â
âI donât know about that.â
âIf thereâs an emergency we can handle it!â
You snorted, âWhat if it wasnât mild dehydration, what if it was a heat stroke, do you guys know how to handle that?â
The confidence drained from their posture.
You sighed and then waved them off. âThanks for worrying, but this is my job, you kids go and enjoy the festival.â
They were going to protest again when a blonde came tumbling through the tent.Â
âJay, you almost gave me a heart attack!â
He clasped his hands together like in prayer.
âAn emergency?â
He nodded.
âAll right, let me get my first aid kit.â You turned to the volunteers. âYou guys, watch over the tent.â
The two saluted and watched you run with Jay.
One student then asked, âHow does noona understand him?â
âJayâŚyou said there was an emergency but this is the boyfriend auction, isnât it?â
Daniel Park stood on the stage and the bid was quickly rising. Jay shook his head, his way of telling you that there was no time.
âOh yeah, guys arenât allowed to place bids on other guysâŚâ
He nodded.
âYou want me to act as your representative?â
He nodded.
âFine.â
A student from a private all-girls school shouted: âOne million won!â[1]Â
You raised your hand. âTwo million won.â
The girl glared at you and yelled, âThree million won!â
âFour million won.â
âF-four million and five hundred thousand won.â
You checked on Jay, who only nodded. You raised your hand again. âTen million won.â
There was a flurry of gasps.
âTenâŚten million won! Going once, going twiceâŚSOLD to the Angel of J Highââ
âDONâT CALL ME THAT!â you screamed at the auctioneer but it was drowned out by the applause and sobbing.Â
You were about to reprimand Jay for tricking you into this when a chill ran down your back. You covered your nape and looked around.Â
The itching was back.
You excused yourself from the crowd and half-ran out the school gates, where you threw up next to a tree.Â
âExcuse me, do you feel sick?â
âAh, Iâm okay, donât worry about me,â you answered, heaving against the tree. âYou should go back and enjoy the festival.â
âYou donât look okay to me, nee-san.âÂ
You only just realized that you two have been conversing in Japanese.
The alarm bells in your head rang crazy and you spun around. The itching in your brain vanished. Time itself seemed to stop.
How could you forget something so important? This was when he first appeared in the storyâ
The man in the yellow shirt offered you a handkerchief, but you held his wrist instead. âGun?â
He palmed your cheek and you realized that you were crying. âAll this time youâŚI thought you were dead.â
You wrapped your arms around his waist and buried your face to his chest. âIâm sorry! I couldnât save youâI couldnâtâhicâI couldnât protect youâŚâ
You expected him to shove you off, but instead he returned the hug. His hold suffocated you but you didnât dare to tell him off.Â
âDonât blame yourself,â he said, kissing the top of your head. âI was the weak one.â
You shook your head.
âFrom now on, no one can hurt you again.â
***
âWhat!?â Zoe and Yui exclaimed in unison, nearly shocking Daniel to his knees. âYou saw the nurse with a man?â
âY-yeah, Jay and I went to look for her and we found her in the parking lot and she was being embraced by a tall man. We didnât think it was our place to interfere so we backed away.â
âDaniel Park, you shouldâve checked up on her! What if that man was a creep?â
âAt first, thatâs what I thought, but she was clearly hugging him back.â
âDid you at least take a picture?â
âWhy would I do that?âÂ
Zoe and Yui exchanged a look before shaking their heads. âMen.â
The news of you and your âboyfriendâ spread like wildfire, becoming the trending topic along with Duke and Danielâs performance.Â
The morning after the festival, the rumor mill was in full motion.Â
âI didnât know unnie has a boyfriend,â Mira said.
âEvery time I asked her about it she said she was âtoo busy,â and I thought that was an excuse but maybe she just wants to keep her love life a secret. I read somewhere that secret romances give the best thrill!â
âWhat does her boyfriend look like?â
âI want to know too, but someone didnât take a picture.â
âIâm sorry, okay?â
âWell, what did he look like, Daniel?â
âLet me think⌠he has black hair. Heâs tall and lean and he was wearing a really flashy shirtâwhatâs that, Jay? His clothes were all designer? Even his shoes?â
Zoe and Yui squealed. âSo heâs rich? Unnieâs amazing!â
âNo wait,â Yui interrupted. âIf her boyfriendâs rich, why does the nurse never wear anything expensive? Do you think heâs cheap with her?â
âG-guys, letâs not jump to conclusions.â
âYou donât understand, Mira, a man who wears designer from head to toe but lets his girlfriend walk around with a cheap purse, is scum!â
âYouâre just insulting the nurse at this point.â
âCome on, Zack, arenât you worried? Arenât any of you worried? Unnie can be prickly but sheâs kind and selflessâI know plenty of men whoâll walk all over her.â
â...Dammit, youâre right.â
âShe is?!â
âWhat should we do, Yui?â
âIt canât be helped, Iâm going to confront her.â
***
Something was wrong.Â
Usually, when you walked to school everyone would be in your face, to greet you or bombard you with life questions, but today the students only gave you smiles and then proceeded to whisper amongst themselves.
Itâs already been an hour since the first bell and no one has snuck out of class to speak with you.Â
You didnât want to use the Q word and jinx it though, so you accepted the temporary peace with mild suspicion and used the free time to think.
Gun didnât hate you. He was as relieved as you were when you found each other again. You wanted to treat him to dinner, to sit down and talk to him over a hot meal just like old times, but he said that he had to deal with work first and to wait for him in the meantime.Â
It's barely been a day but you wished he'd message you again.
Knock knock
You put away your phone and smiled. âGood morning.â The greeting came out too cheerfully for you, even your guest seemed shocked.
âGood morning, I hope Iâm not interrupting your work.âÂ
âItâs been a while since you cut class to visit me.â
âIâm sorry itâs just thatâŚâ
âI know, itâs something of an âemergency,â right? Tell me whatâs wrong.â
She hesitated.
You cocked your eyebrow at her behavior. Yui had a very full speed ahead personality and never hesitated before. You leaned closer. âWhatâs wrong?â
Her eyes flitted about, reluctant to meet yours. âOh, well, I wanted toâ!âÂ
âWhat is it?â
She narrowed her eyes and you suddenly felt like covering up your chest. âThat necklaceâŚâ
âHuh? Oh.â You touched the panther-shaped pendant hanging below your collarbone. Gun sent over a dozen shopping bags to your house, stating that each one was for every birthday you spent without him. âItâs a gift from someone dear to me. I-is it too much? I know itâs not my usual styleâwhy are you crying?â
âNothing, nothing, I suddenly feel guilty. Please excuse meâŚâ
âEh?â
She sprinted out of the clinic, leaving you to wonder what the hell just happened.
***
Yui burst into the classroom. Luckily, math class just finished and there was no teacher.
âThere she is!â
âHowâd your investigation go?âÂ
âSo, is she with a scumbag?â
Yui raised her phone, displaying the online shop of a store. âThe nurse was wearing this exact thing when I went to visit her.â
Daniel leaned in a little closer to read, butchering his words as he did so, âPanthère de Cartier pendantâŚâ[2] His jaw almost hit the floor. âHow can a necklace cost this much?â
Zack pushed his head away. âYouâre overreacting, how much can itâwhat the hell? Who would buy this?â
âIâll tell you who,â Yui cried, âa man who treasures unnie!âÂ

Pairing/Relationship: isekaid!older sister!Reader x Gun Park
âMoney canât buy happiness, but it pays for everything else,â your grandmotherâthe real oneâused to say. Love? Pride? Dreams? Those things canât fill an empty stomach. So you studied hard, earned your degree, got an international license and worked abroad.
You and your friends used to joke âIn my next life, I want to be a rich manâs daughter.â Well, to hell with that! You shouldâve said âI want to be a rich manâs catâ because the cats in the Yamazaki estate had more free time, more fun and more food than you ever did. They could also wake up at noon and lounge in the sun until dinner.
You? Youâre the only daughter of the Shingen Yamazaki. Rich bastard. Yakuza. Professional scumbag. You werenât actually sure if you were the only daughter, but you were definitely the only one that lived as a Yamazaki, which was nothing to be proud of.Â
Your current bodyâs sperm donor never talked to you. It was amazing. In the eight years that you have lived, you have never had that manâs eyes look at you. If you were normal, the potential people-pleasing, attention-seeking behavior and daddy issues would have been astronomical.Â
But you werenât a normal kid. You had your past life memories.Â
One lifetime of trauma was already more than enough, so you decided to live as peacefully and quietly and as far away as possible from everyone else in this godforsaken estate, which was quite easy. Your mother killed herself because she considered giving birth to a girl her failure. The maids said that she died during labor, but you knew the truth. Though your memories were foggy, it was hard to forget the scene of a human body dangling from the ceiling. You remembered comparing her swinging form to the little animals of your crib mobile. You felt bad for the woman but you didnât grieve her. (As far as you know, your true mother was still alive and happy.) At the very least, the dead lady married rich, so you didnât starve.Â
Despite being an abandoned child, or perhaps because you were an abandoned child, you were content with your position in the Yamazaki Clan. You had your own bedroom (it was smaller than your new apartment), you had three meals a day (with heavy caloric restrictions), you had nice clothes (which were super uncomfortable) and you attended school. The servants were too professional to pick on you. Or maybe they pitied you. You liked pity. Pity was underrated. You had a peaceful home life because of pity.Â
You wish you could say the same with your school life.Â
âDammit, again?â Your textbooks were covered in chewing gum for the third time this week. You bet it was that little prick, Minoru. That rotund moron was the only child of some local businessman and you could tell that he has never been hit in his life. You were holding back because you were an adult, but even you had your limits. Now that you were in a childâs body, smacking the guy in the face wouldnât be morally wrong, right? It certainly wouldnât be illegalâŚ
âHeh.â
Your lips furled and you cackled as you walked into the yard. Your room was on the first floor in the West Wing and had a back door that led directly outside. It was fenced off from the rest of the woods to prevent intruders and you treated it as your own little paradise.Â
âHey, Nugget, missed me?â You greeted the goldfish in your pond. You called it your pond but really it was already here when you moved into your room. The fish was something you got when you snuck out to attend a festival.Â
âGuess what? You were right, it happened again. That little shithead destroyed my books.â
The fish swam around and you laughed. âI know, I know, you warned me. I shouldâve wrapped them in paper or plastic.â
Many pet owners talk to their animal friends. The animals donât usually talk back. No, your goldfish didnât talk to you and no, you werenât crazy, you needed this. Your peers were children, the servants acted like furniture, your dad was a shadowâyou needed Nugget to act as a friend otherwise you would really go crazy. You considered a pen pal once, but the head servant said no. You didnât even have your own computer to play games or troll people.Â
So all you had was Nugget. A goldfish you won from some festival.Â
âAnyway, Iâve thought about it and maybe punching a kid is too much. Maybe I canâŚI dunno, shave his head while heâs nappingâwhoâs there?â You shot up from your seat next to the pond. You could hear rustling from the nearby bushes. The stray cats around here were ghost-quiet and they preferred going straight to the kitchen.
Was it a different animal? What if it was an intruderâa kidnapper?
Your heart sunk and just as you were about to run back inside, a white face with inky black eyes emerged from the darkness.Â
You almost threw up from the shock.Â
Regaining your composure, you rubbed soothing circles over your chest and then pointed a finger at the brat. âWhat the hell!? Whatâre you doing here, kid? This is private property, you know!â
The brat stepped forward and you realized that he wasnât just any child. He wore a simple but exquisitely made yukata and his black hair was combed back. He wore no expression on his face. âThis is my home.â
Youâve realized too late, but it was no surprise. You heard whispers but no one bothered to tell you about any siblings. âOh.â
âAre you one of the servantsâ children?â
âNo.â
âThen, are you an intruder?â
âKid, look at me.â You gestured over your school uniform. âI also live here.â
âWhy would they keep a stray like you?â
This littleâcalm down. You are an adult.
You took a deep breath and walked towards him. He looked to be 43 inches tall, so he would be around five years old.Â
You knelt down so you could be eye level with him.
âIâm not a stray, little man. And FYI, it is very rude to use that word when referring to people.â
He said nothing for a while, only stared at you.Â
Then he said, âThe way you talk is odd.â
âOh?â
âYou talk like an adult.â
Thatâs because you were one. âIâll take that as a compliment.â
âHow old are you?â
âYou never ask a lady her age. Itâs impolite.â
He stared silently.
âHow old are you?â
âIâm three.â
âBullshit.â
He flinched and those sharp eyes widened into plates.Â
You covered your mouth but you couldnât help your own chuckling. You surprised even yourself with that. âIâm sorry, but are you sure youâre three?â
He narrowed his eyes and stomped his feet. He held out three pale fingers. âI know my age. Iâm three.â
âIâm sorry, I justâŚâ He wasnât just tall, he was awfully coherent for his age. âI didnât mean to offend you. I thought you were older.â
âHow old are you?â
âYou brat, what did I just say? But I suppose itâs only fair I tell you. Iâm eight so you better start talking more respectfully.â
âYou havenât told me your name.â
âWell, you havenât told me yours.â
It was subtle but you could see that he was beginning to pout. His little fists balled by his sides. Perhaps he wasnât used to being treated this way.
Holding in the laughter, you introduced yourself. âIâm the master of the houseâs daughter.â
His brows furrowed. âYouâre lying.â
âWhy would I lie about something like that?â
âI donât know but youâre lying.â
âIâm not.â
âYou are.â
âListen carefully, do you really think I would be so stupid as to lie about being that basâabout being Shingenâs daughter? Do you think the servants would let me stay here without proof?â
â...you called him Shingen.â
You rolled your eyes. âIâm not going to call him father.â
âEveryone calls him Master.â
Even worse. âItâs just the two of us here so it will be our little secret.âÂ
He went back to being quiet, but this time he was thinking hard instead of just staring at you. When he finally met your eyes he seemed to have realized something. âIf⌠if youâre Master Shingenâs daughter and youâre eight years old thenâŚâ
You smiled. âYup, that makes me your older sister.â
âBut⌠no one ever told meâŚâ
You poked the space between his eyebrows. âStop thinking. Thereâs nothing to think about. If it makes you feel any better, no one told me about you.â
âThat doesnât make me feel better.â
âWorth a shot.â
He looked at the ground.Â
Poor thing. He mustâve thought he had enough competition within the clan. Well, he had nothing to worry about. Once you graduated high school, you were going to attend college on a scholarship and forget this whole place ever existed.Â
âYou still havenât told me your name, kid.â You ruffled his hair.
His hair fell over his face, making him more adorable. âItâs JonggunâŚâ
âJonggun, huh?â Why was that name so familiar?
âYou can call me Gun, everyone else does.â
Your hand stopped.Â
Gun.Â
That one name unlocked a distant memory, one where you binged on a webtoon instead of studying for exams.Â
Gun, as in the Gun Park? Villain extraordinaire of Lookism?Â
Of all the places to be reincarnated, you had to be reborn in this freakzoid place where teens look like they could be fathers of three and where extras get shafted constantly?!
Youâre pulled out of your freak-out at the gentle tugging on your skirt. You glanced down to find Gun looking at you with concerned eyes.Â
There was no mistaking it, those eyes, that hair! No wonder he looked big for his age.Â
âW-what is it?â you asked.
âSince weâre siblings, is it all right to call you ane ue?â [1]
He was tiny and harmless now, but in over ten years, heâll be a force of nature that destroys everything he touches.Â
You didnât want to associate with him. You werenât delusional or altruistic enough to waste precious time preventing his black flags. Did the original story even have a sister? Youâre pretty sure it only mentioned half-brothersâŚAll the more reason to stop this relationship from deepeningâ
His hand was still on your skirt.Â
Gun waited for your reply. His creepy black eyes looked more like a deerâs now.Â
âŚwell, itâs not like you were reborn in a world destined for the apocalypse.Â
You sighed and knelt down to meet his gaze properly. âAne ue is too uptight in this day and age, yâknow. You can just call me onee-san.â
Finally, he smiled.Â
[1] Japanese. Ane ue is an archaic and formal way to address an older sister
author's note: The first time I read Lookism, I was closer to Daniel's age, now I'm closer to Gitae's. đBruh
