Waking up at ten a.m., not worrying about work, breakfast by the pool minus other people—a part of you now understands why politicians resort to corruption.
“Aren’t you going to eat?” You pointed your knife at Diego’s plate.
You two were served salad with a light vinaigrette dressing, a fluffy egg white omelette, and an assortment of tropical fruits.
While you inhaled everything, he had a sip of lemon water and nothing else.
“I’m full just watching you eat, noona.” He winked.
Your nose twitched with annoyance. “You realize this is free, don’t you?”
“I need to watch my weight.”
“Oh.” Right. Now you felt kinda guilty. But still. “I get it, I do, but it seems like a waste not to eat. At least have the salad.”
“I’ll eat if noona spoonfeeds me.”
“Get real.”
“There’s no way you don’t remember.”
How could you forget? This world-renowned idol—smiling innocently across from you—used to be a delinquent, one with too much time and an awful personality. James Lee was a frequent (and unwanted) visitor of yours. He showed up at your door during ungodly hours, covered in blood and bruises. Knowing what you knew from the source material and the fact that none of his injuries warranted a trip to the ER, you had a sneaking suspicion that he got hurt on purpose. However, you were too soft-hearted to turn away a kid in the middle of the night. He didn’t need to say much. Gun was right. And so was Sammy, and so was Goo. You were a pushover. One sad look was enough to shatter your defenses.
“I still have all those adorable bandages you used on me. They’re safely stored in a sealed glass container in my closet.”
“Yeah, sure you do.” You scoffed at his teasing. What kind of psychopath would keep all those dirty bandages?
“Anyway, here.” You sliced a mango into tiny cubes and placed it beside his plate. “The mangoes are perfect. You don’t have to eat everything but you gotta at least try these.”
“You’re not gonna feed me?”
“I am feeding you.”
He pouted and grabbed your hand, wet with mango sap. He then looked directly into your eye and started sucking on your fingers.
You tried to pull away but like a venus flytrap, the moment you struggled, the tighter he held on. The veins throbbed visibly on his arm.
“You—”
“You’re right,” he said, dragging his tongue from your wrist to the wedge between your ring and middle fingers, “it tastes perfect, like it was made just for me.”
Jesus, this damn brat. Under the pink hair, white clothes and angelic features he was just another deviant.
You refused to admit that he had an effect on you. You were going to forget the feeling of that…big, soft, hot tongue pressed against your skin. Diego might have been a friend you didn’t consent to having, but he was still your friend plus you knew him since he was a senior in high school. You had to cut whatever feelings he gave you before they blossomed. Life here was complicated enough as it is.
“Noona,” he whispered as he sucked on your ring finger. Those steely eyes pierced right through you. “I can feel your pulse.”
He smiled knowingly.
You gritted your teeth as your thighs squeezed together.
His teasing never worked on you before, so why now?
You thought about it and decided that it was because you were close to ovulating. That’s it.
As you agreed to this reasoning, the light above you dimmed. What happened to the sun?
You looked up and—“Ah.”
Gitae Kim stood behind Diego.
Of course.
“What’s the meaning of this, mi vida?”
You were too stunned to speak, both at his presence and the audacity.
Diego tilted his chin slightly to face the beast. He glanced over to you. The genius gremlins inside that skull of his worked overtime and his lips curled, like he just heard the punchline.
“You must be mistaken. ‘Mi vida’?,” he said, pressing a kiss to your ring finger, “this woman is my bride.”
Maybe it’s from spending time with monsters like Gun and Goo, but you have developed the ability to react faster than the average person when it comes to stopping gratuitously flashy, potentially lawsuit-involving fights, so you jumped to your feet and put on your best customer service smile. “G—Mister Gitae Kim, would you like to dine with us?”
Both men chorused a flat “What” and next thing you knew, a new chair was brought in and staff members scattered like frightened ants after setting Gitae’s place at the table.
Now that you wiped the mango sap and DG’s saliva from your hand, you could finally soak in Gitae Kim. The son of a bitch was covered in different shades of red lipstick, from his Adam’s apple to his bare shoulders. Some trailed below his ribs and into his unzipped jeans.
You rejected him, but it hurt your ego that he moved on that quickly. You admit it: you’re a vain hypocrite.
“Like what you see?”
“No,” you said, grinning a little too tightly. “I was just in awe of how big your boobs are.” Major lie. Sammy’s boobs were way bigger.
That made Gitae laugh and you heard a disappointed harrumph beside you.
How Diego managed to move his seat right next to you without you noticing, you will never know.
“I didn’t realize you like big chests, noona. Are mine not good enough for you?”
“Shut up, I was joking.” Lies.
“Mm, that’s true. If it’s too big then it’s just grotesque.”
“What’s that supposed to mean, James Lee?”
“It’s Diego now, actually, and I don’t mean to offend you. I’m just saying, girls are good at acting like they’re having fun when they get paid. We all know that at the end of the day, it all boils down to skill.” Diego turned to you. “Right, noona?”
Gitae sneered. “They say that tiny, insecure guys do tend to overcompensate.”
“Noona’s never had to worry about that. She’s seen every part of me and trust me, I’m the perfect fit for her.”[1]
“Really? ‘Cause she had a lot of fun with mine.”
DG’s smile tightened.
Gitae turned his chin up, looking smug.
The mango felt like rubber in your mouth.
You were going to get a stomachache eating with these idiots.
…You missed Gun and Goo.
Gitae Kim has never been persistent when it came to women. He was a murderer, a thug, a thief, but he stopped all advances when a woman made it clear that she wasn’t interested. For a man as vicious as him, even he had a line in the sand. Besides, with every no he got, there were five yeses just waiting for him.
You were the first woman who ever made him work for a yes.
His second-in-command broke his poker face when Gitae had asked him for advice. The daily visits, the ridiculous bouquets, the cheesy lines—they were all suggestions from his men. He got frustrated when none of it worked on you.
Then he found you in that bar, alone, dressed in something else other than scrubs and wearing makeup that could tempt anything with a pulse. You were also drunk as hell.
He hadn’t intended for things to go as far as they did. He preferred his bed partners lucid, but you clung onto him, pouting with lips begging to be kissed. Only a fool would turn you away.
Gitae Kim has been with plenty of women. Every girl was undeniably and objectively sexy, but you were the only one who left a mark on his mind.
An apparition that refused to leave him.
The faces you made, the way he witnessed your expressions change from utter disgust to raw vulnerability, as you laid your heart bare to him.
The cold, empty space on his bed when he realized that you left him.
Even as he held countless women—every single one gorgeous and willing to be his, whether out of carnal desire or a lust for power and wealth—memories of you remained in the back of his mind.
No. Actually, not even in the back of his mind.
Your robe-wearing ghost stood there, sneering at him as a random girl bounced on his dick. Lying beside him was her friend, he was squeezing her breast as she massaged her own clit. They were office workers on their day off. He met them right after you told him to leave you alone.
If only you would leave him alone.
“Is that it?” You asked. “You were way harder that night. I know you can get a lot bigger too. Are you worried this one can’t take it?”
The girls moaned and “you” mockingly covered your giggling mouth. “You’re awfully lazy today. You’re usually more proactive. Do you remember? You almost carved me into the mattress.”
You’re right. The older he got, the less effort he put into making things pleasurable for his partners. He usually laid back and let the ladies do the work.
But you brought out a hunger in him that night. He couldn’t get enough of you, he pathetically plunged himself into you like an animal in heat—worse, like a virgin. He had to pay the hotel extra for the bed you two broke.
Suddenly, you were no longer standing beside him but sitting over him. Your robe was undone, your breasts and belly spilling out, begging to be squeezed.
You bent over him, close enough to kiss, and whispered, “Let’s come together, cariño.” [2]
The girl on top of Gitae yelped as his large hands clamped onto her hips. She moaned as he grew inside her, but he didn’t hear her. Your sounds filled his mind completely.
The woman beside him bit her lip as she watched Gitae push her friend onto her back and folded her knees to her ears.
There was no need for jealousy though, because the curse was broken—somewhat—as your ghost possessed them both.
The girls screamed in unison as the bed faltered, two of the legs broke, but Gitae didn’t notice.
For the first time in years, Gitae was satisfied.
The next morning, Gitae Kim didn’t even bother showering as he stalked the halls, looking for you. He was still hungry and no other woman would do.
When he found you, you were with someone else. A man.
Worse, it was James fucking Lee.
***
“Anyway, what can I do for you, Mister Kim?” you asked the thug who had been staring at you like a piece of meat.
“Just call me Gitae, mi vida, and you still haven’t given me your name.”
Your eyebrow twitched but you remained composed. “All right.” Realizing that it would be more annoying to keep it a secret, you finally surrendered your name.
He smiled—not a smirk, not a lazy grin, not a psychotic almost-snarl—Gitae Kim gave you a tiny, genuine smile that was so out of place with his rough features. It took you by surprise. But…not in a bad way.
“Thank you,” he said.
“Now that that’s out of the way, what exactly do you want from me?”
“Let’s go on a date.”
The pink-haired wolf beside you spoke up, “Oh Mister Kim, did you forget? She’s my fiancée.”
“I don’t see a ring on her finger.”
“That’s because I want it custom-made to her preference. The girl I love deserves the best things. A walking toilet such as yourself wouldn’t understand.”
As if the words went through one ear and out the other, Gitae grinned at you. “Besides, engaged doesn’t mean married. Idols like him are a dime a dozen.”
You heard the sound of metal breaking and saw Diego’s fork bent in half.
Breakfast continued like a fever dream. The two boys volleyed insults, making snide remarks about the size of the other’s penis and sex life.
It was like you were back in college—no, high school. Ugh.
Your free meal now ruined, you folded your napkin and stood up.
“Noona?”
“Mi vida?”
“I’m gonna go—” you decided mid-sentence not to tell them where you were going “—and be away from you guys. Bye.”
You walked out of the pool area but of course, Diego had followed you.
“Noona—”
“Please, I wanna be alone, just an hour would be perfect.” Breakfast was awful but maybe sweating out your stress in the sauna can salvage the morning.
“I changed my mind.”
“About what? For the record, I only have enough money for an emergency cab home so don’t tell me I have to—”
He pulled you by the waist, pressing your chests and bellies together.
“Let’s make it official now, noona.”
***
Gun flinched. His fingers hovered over the buttons of his navy blue shirt—a gift you lovingly chose for him—which he had taken off, folded and left in his car, where blood and rain won’t touch it while he took care of some bugs.
“What’s wrong?” Goo asked. He flicked his wrist, the blood on his umbrella splattered onto the men around him, eliciting a chorus of groans.
“Nothing.” Gun buttoned up his shirt and gestured for Goo to get back in the car.
“Hey, let’s stop by McDonald’s, I want—”
“No time. Noona’s going to check out in two hours. I promised to pick her up.”
“Isn’t the spa a thirty-minute ride from here?”
“Yes.”
“I want my nuggets!”
“Then walk.”
Gun didn’t want to risk traffic. Besides, the less amount of time you spend with that miscreant Diego Kang, the better. Gun was certain that the bad feeling he got just now was because of that.
It has to be.
He couldn’t imagine a worse scenario than you alone with one persistent creep.
[1] Just a reminder that James Lee/Diego Kang is confirmed to be huge or at least significantly bigger than average.

What If: You were Shingen and Shintaro's older sister (masterlist)
Main Series Title/AU: My Baby Brother is the Strongest Character
<<read the synopsis and content warnings first>>
featuring: Shingen and Shintaro Yamazaki, Gapryong Kim, Minseon Kang
Ten-year-old Gapryong Kim gawked at the sight before him.
Various dishes, familiar and foreign, covered your thrifted dining table.
“W-wha—”
“You said it’s your birthday, right? I bought the cake. You wanted to try red velvet, didn’t you? This is tofu sisig,[1] which I know you like, and that one’s a simple carbonara with chicken. I also tried a new curry recipe so tell me what you think, though I’m still getting used to cooking Korean food so some of them may not be the best, but—oh.”
Gapryong couldn’t see the food anymore. His tears clouded his vision. He couldn’t remember the last time he wept. At some point, he learned that neither his father nor his mother would care if he did so he hasn’t cried in over seven years.
Strangely enough, today, he was relieved to cry.
“For she’s a jolly good fellow, for she’s a jolly good fellow, for she’s a jolly good fellooooow—” your friends held the word, making you chuckle “—that nobody can deny!”
Minseon knelt down next to you and placed the heavy cake with the reverence of a shrine maiden at the temple.
Gapryong then stood up, calling for everybody’s attention. “Everyone, everyone, can I have your attention please.”
Once all attention was on him, with a serious expression, he began, “A drunk nun walks into a bar—”
Everyone burst out laughing and you playfully rolled your eyes.
“I’m kidding, I’m just kidding.” Gapryong held up his pint of ginger ale. “A toast to the kindest, most amazing, hardworking person I’ve ever known. She shines brighter every year, and here’s to hoping for more years full of health, good luck and of course, money.” He raised his ale towards you and smiled. “To our noona.”
Everyone else followed suit. “To our noona!” “To our unnie!”
Minseon leaned into you. “Make a wish.”
You closed your eyes, holding your breath for a few seconds before blowing the candles.
“I keep telling you every year that you guys don’t have to do this.”
“And we keep telling you every year that you can’t stop us,” Minseon said.
“Well, good. Now I have an excuse to get drunk and that killjoy over there can’t lecture me about it.”
“And you just know he’s gonna blame us for not getting to drink with everybody else.”
“I can hear you both!” Gapryong acted offended.
***
Gapryong was sipping the god awful ale outside when the veranda door slid open.
“Caught your dad trying to smoke again?”
“In the bathroom.” Minseon waved a sealed pack of cigarettes. “I don’t know why he thinks he can’t get caught there. At least do it outside.”
“Is noona having fun?”
“The most I’ve seen her since she started that new job.”
“I wish she’d just quit.”
“We both know she’s too stubborn for that.”
“That’s true,” he snickered, took a sip of ale, then scowled.
Minseon stared at Gapryong’s disgusted face.
“Hey, asshole—”
“Yes, Miss Minseon?”
She paused, and then asked, “Why do you wear your hair like that?”
“Like a true ladykiller?”
“Like a thug from a cheaply made gangster film.”
“Ouch.”
“I’m waiting.”
He glanced inside the Kangs’ humble cafeteria.
Minseon didn’t need to look behind her to know what or who made him smile.
“When I was a kid, my parents never cut my hair. My bangs covered my eyes and some people thought I was a girl ‘cause my hair was so long. But noona used her own money to take me to a barber. It was…a big change for me. I wasn’t used to seeing people’s faces clearly all the time and I always felt the need to hide my own, but… she told me I had a cute forehead.”
Minseon was baffled. That’s why he always combed his hair back to the point of looking bald?
She cleared her throat.
“Is that why you like unnie so much? I had a few guesses as to why but…”
“There are many answers to that question. How much time do you have? Actually, it’d be easier to tell you the things I don’t like about her, which is nothing. She’s perfect—”
“Forget I asked.”
“—but—I can tell you exactly when I decided, or rather, realized that I was going to marry her.” He sloshed the disgusting liquid and recalled a time when he wasn’t even tall enough to see past your shoulders. You two were grocery shopping for dinner when a man collapsed in the middle of the marketplace. A heart attack—
“Everyone froze,” Gapryong said. “That man was dying in front of all of us, even I couldn’t move.”
That was a surreal scenario for Minseon to imagine. The Gapryong she knew was always the first to jump into action.
He continued, “I didn’t know what to do. I’m sure the others felt the same way. ‘What if I hurt him more?’ ‘What if I get sued?’ ‘What if they think I did this?’ ‘It’s not my problem.’ ‘Someone else will help.’ Those concerns rushed through my head. I could only watch that poor sap gasp for air.
But noona was different. She shoved people aside, rolled the man flat on his back, pointed and ordered a random woman—total stranger, by the way—to call an ambulance, and began CPR. You should’ve been there, Minseon. It was like time stood still, held in place with a magic spell, or some curse, and then noona broke it with the snap of her fingers.
She continued CPR until she started panting. When her rhythm was starting to falter, she told me to come over and then taught me what to do. I broke that guy’s ribs, but noona said it was fine and to keep going. I swear, I can still feel his heart pounding with mine.” Gapryong raised his right hand and clenched it into a fist. “I didn’t think it was possible to feel a rush like that unless I was fighting.
When the paramedics arrived, they told us that if it weren’t for the CPR, that old geezer would’ve died. The man’s daughter bowed and thanked us repeatedly. That was the first time anybody’s ever thanked me like that, I could never forget it.”
“...”
“Sounds unbelievable, huh? Like something straight outta fairytale or one of those superhero comic books from America.”
“No,” Minseon said, smiling, “that sounds like unnie.”
“What about you? When did you realize?”
“When did I realize what?”
He gave her a knowing grin.
Minseon clicked her tongue and turned away.
“I can still see your ear, you know, and it’s bright red.”
“Piss off.”
“Hey, I’m not judging. Noona basically raised me, remember? And you know what she says, ‘love shouldn’t discriminate, unless it’s about species or age.’”
“Shut up…”
“Besides, if you’re like that, it’s kinda hot—”
“Gapryong,” Minseon warned him.
“Right, right. Sorry. It’ll be our secret, as a sign of respect between rivals.”
“We’re not rivals.”
“Whatever you say.”
There was a brief moment of silence between them.
“So,” she asked, “why do you sleep around? It’s no secret that she doesn’t like playboys.”
“That’s…” he chuckled, recalling how you didn’t bat an eyelash when you once caught him naked. It didn’t matter if he was sixteen or twenty-two, he realized that, to his beloved noona, Gapryong Kim was just the little boy who clung to you when his parents failed him. He had to do something, he needed to convince you that he was a man, someone who could stand by your side instead of just hiding behind you.
But Minseon didn’t need to know that. He looked her in the eye, flashed his signature smirk and said, “Cause a real man loves his ladies.”
Realizing that he was done being sincere, Minseon clicked her tongue before throwing the cigarettes in the trash. “Fine.”
Shintaro took a deep breath and knocked on the door. He waited, as if there truly was someone inside the hollow bedroom.
After ten seconds of nothing, he stepped inside and looked around. This was the second largest bedroom in the whole mansion, bigger than his or even Shingen’s.
The room, as opposed to the rest of the estate, was eclectic rather than strictly Japanese. The vanity thrifted from an Indian family, the acacia bookshelves imported from the Philippines, the writing desk gifted by a Russian businessman. A pink and white checkered rug, a custom-built sofa in the shape of human lips, a custom-made Victorian dollhouse from England…
There was a knock on the door. “Vice-Leader, I apologize for disturbing you.”
“It’s fine.” Shintaro gingerly placed the stuffed mermaid on the bed with the rest of the plushies he and Shingen bought for their sister every year. “Is the Leader already in the meeting room?”
“He is on his way.”
“Very well.” Shintaro took one last glance at the room and bowed. “Happy birthday, nee-sama.”[2]
He then retreated outside, leaving the dozens of stuffed toys alone, waiting for a master they’ve never met.
[1] Sisig. Tagalog. A type of Filipino dish that's made typically with pork. In this case, Noona made tofu sisig. It's a simple recipe.
You just need tofu, butter or cooking oil, soy sauce, mayo and calamansi. 😋
[2] The twins and Gapryong aren't celebrating the same day; the former are celebrating Noona's actual date of birth while the latter treats the day she appeared in Korea as her birthday.
Hello I hope your'e doing well both in physical and mental author-san 😚 , Just gonna ask since you wrote about the older sister of shigen and shintaro with gap being a simp as usual is there any chance gap and noona might end up together? Or gap is gonna have a rival for noona heart too? Just curious really🤔
Halu!
I can't think of any other guy in the Pre-Generation that I find attractive enough to write as an official male lead. Heck, it took me a while to warm up to Gap (and strictly his younger, more handsome self!) so Gap is the only man of the harem in this AU.
To prevent writers block, do you think of little snippets of ideas of later use?
For example, Gun’s Big Sis interacting or having past connections with the Japanese Worker affiliates. She’s already a big sis figure to Kenta, who still has a brotherly connection with Gun in your story. So, would she be a big sis to Mitsuki or oblivious rival to her. I know Ryuhei would be simping for her but fail miserably because of Gun and Samuel. Kenta too for that matter. A huge part of me likes to think his dad would have tried to setup an arranged marriage between Big Sis and Kenta, but I digress. Sato would be weird/ secretively perverted towards her, but again Gun would strangle him before he could touch her.
What’s houghts do you have on their interactions?
I do have lore for Mitsuki and to a lesser extent, Ryuhei.
Back in the day, on her way home, Noona found a crying Mitsuki, who got lost when she tried to run away from her dad. Noona comforts her and Mitsuki ends up worshipping her--she emulates Noona's speech patterns, fashion choices, even cuts class to explore the city. It's a whole thing. She's the stalker before THE stalker (aka James Lee). She calls her "Onee-sama" and lowkey resents Gun for being related to her, but then Mitsuki realizes that she's very gay for her onee-sama.
She became depressed when she found out that Noona "died." Instead of Sinu, she ends up obsessing over Noona. I kinda picture her even spending a pretty penny to generate those "what they look like now" photos of Noona and surrounds herself with assistants that look like that image.
Honestly, Mitsuki being down atrocious for Noona--sorry, Onee-sama--is one of my favorite lore bits in the MBBITSC AU.
Ryuhei's in love with Mitsuki and is jealous of Noona. He sees her as a love rival WAHAHAHAHAHA
Speaking of Sinu, I don't wanna think too hard about where he ended up after Gun sold him off. He'll be back sooner or later. BTW he and Yeonhui are childhood friends with Noona before Gapryong took her away. He loves Noona like a sister but was convinced that Yeonhui loved Noona romantically. It's very funny (in my head).
What If: You were Shingen and Shintaro's older sister (masterlist)
Main Series Title/AU: My Baby Brother is the Strongest Character

featuring: Shingen and Shintaro Yamazaki, Gapryong Kim
“We shouldn’t be here, Shingen!”
“If you’re too scared then you can go back but I wanna see the ghost.”
“I’m not scared and there is no ghost.”
“Well then, how do you explain the rumors? The maids said they always hear footsteps at night when the place should be empty.”
“They’re just rumors, probably something one person came up with to entertain themselves.”
“If it’s a rumor then how come you’re clinging to me like a baby?”
“I’m not—ah, sh!”
“Huh?”
“Look!”
The door to the kitchen was slightly ajar, a stream of light peeking through the crack.
The two brothers crept forward in sync. When they reached the door, they looked at each other, silently nodded, then pushed open the door.
A figure draped in white stood by the stove.
Shingen screamed, “Ghost!”
The ghost almost dropped the pan in its hands. “Aaah!”
“Aaaah!”
Shintaro grabbed his brother by the shoulders. “Calm down! It’s not a ghost! Just an intruder.”
“I’m not an intruder, I live here,” you gasped out once you calmed down. “You’re the ones who snuck in here.”
“This is our house!” Shingen bit back.
“Well, I’ve never seen either of you here and I’ve lived here since I was a baby.”
“Yeah? Well—”
“Wait,” Shintaro said, holding back Shingen from shouting again, then he whispered something into his brother’s ear, who promptly recoiled at his words.
“No way! That’s just a rumor!”
“Think about it, there’s no other explanation, is there? None of the maids would be foolish enough to break the rules like this.”
“You know, for a couple of ‘young masters,’ you’re very rude. Your elder sister is standing right in front of you and you’re mumbling to each other, ignoring her.”
They turned to you in unison, hackles raised like two twin pups.
You laughed. “Judging by the looks on your faces, you already guessed it.”
“But the midwife said that we don’t have any other siblings—”
“—they told us that everyone else was taken care of.”
“I guess I slipped through the cracks.” You shrugged and placed your attention back to the stove. “Or maybe they didn’t see me as a threat.”
The boys exchanged glances and you waved them over.
“If you’re going to stay then might as well join me for dinner.”
"It's midnight."
"Clearly.”
"Mother says you'll gain weight when you eat after bedtime."
"She's not wrong, but if there’s any time not to worry about weight gain, it’s during one’s youth.”
“...you sound like an old man.”
“I’ll pinch you, brat.”
Shingen had lowered his guard way too quickly and leaned over your pan. “What're you cooking?”
“Caramelized Spam and eggs. They go great with leftover rice.”[1]
“What's a Spam?”
“You’re shitting me.”
“I’m not sh-shitting you!”
“Right, sorry.” You stifled your laughter and gestured for them to sit at the kitchen island.
Shingen moved first, but Shintaro held onto his brother’s arm.
“Afraid it’s poisoned?” you asked, grabbing two more bowls from the cupboard. “Don’t worry, young master, I value my life.”
You scooped cold rice into three bowls, set one down for each person, then went to plate the Spam and eggs on one big dish.
You gave them each a spoon and then took a seat across from them. “Bon appetite.”
Not bothering to wait for them, you dug in, enjoying the hot meat and eggs with the cold rice.
Shingen picked up his spoon and poked at his bowl. “I’ve never seen brown rice like this before.”
“Brown rice? Oh, that. That’s okoge.[2] You can’t get that stuff with fancy rice cookers, unless you’re exceptionally bad at cooking.”
You then paused. Shintaro still appeared skeptical, but Shingen was drooling.
“If you don’t want them then hand the bowls over—”
“No! I wannit!” Shingen shoved a spoonful into his mouth and coughed.
“Shingen!”
You pushed your cup of barley tea towards him.
Shingen gulped down the tea in one go before turning to his brother. “It’s good!”
Shingen resumed eating, forgetting his etiquette lessons entirely as he devoured the dish like a starved child.
You raised an eyebrow at Shintaro, who was sneaking jealous glances at his brother.
“If you don’t want it then—”
“No! I’ll try it!” It was scary how much he copied his twin’s actions, choking and coughing until you poured him some tea.
“Well?”
He gave you a flustered, satisfied smile. “It’s delicious!”
You grinned. “Right?”
They finished their share in seconds and proceeded to drool at your mostly untouched bowl. You were so amused that you forgot about eating.
With a defeated sigh, you pushed your dinner towards them.
They raised their heads sheepishly,as if to ask, “Are you sure?”
Chuckling, you plopped your chin onto your knuckles. “Go ahead.”
This was supposed to be your first meal this week, but what the heck, you still had some instant noodles stashed in your room.
It was a dreadfully beautiful summer day. The sky was blue without a trace of rain and Shingen Yamazaki chose to appreciate it through a closed window, from the comfort of his room. Years ago, on days just like this one, he would have been outside, dragging Shintaro with him, to draw the view on cheap paper with even cheaper crayons as they sipped lemonade with their sister.
But such lovely days were a distant dream now. Summer, winter, fall, spring, sunny, rainy—they all melted into one long, treacherous moment that never seemed to end.
He could hear footsteps approach his quarters. He could see the familiar silhouettes behind the paper screen.
“Good morning, Leader.” It was Shintaro. “May we come in?”
“...”
Shintaro’s silhouette turned to the men behind him. “Leave us. I would like to speak with the Leader alone.”
“Yes, sir!” They bowed and scurried away.
Shingen remained silent even as his twin stepped inside. His only reaction was a gentle rub of acknowledgement on the dog that sauntered over.
“You can’t keep running away from your duties like this. Father’s going to have a cow and terrify the whole house again.”
“...Shintaro, have we received any letters?”
“No.”
“You think she’s dead.”
“It’s been over six years. If nee-sama is alive then perhaps she just doesn’t want to speak with us anymore.”
“Nee-chan’s not like that.”
“No, but let’s be realistic. A lot can happen in six years. Maybe she has a new family.”
“Don’t be absurd. No man is worthy enough to marry nee-chan.”
“I agree, but more importantly, Shingen—”
“What?”
“Aren’t you embarrassed calling her ‘nee-chan’?”[3]
“...Shintaro.”
“Yes?”
“Get out.”
“Noona~ Are you free later?”
You stuck the bill on Gapryong Kim’s forehead and didn’t bother giving him a reply.
You smiled at Baekho Kwon[4], who sat right across from him. Piles of dishes framing his face. “Will that be all?”
“Ah, yes, I’m full. Thank you, noona.”
“Sure thing.” You didn’t spare Gapryong a glance before checking in on the other customers. He kept staring at you though, intentions clear as day to everybody else.
“Boss, why do you keep hitting on her? You told me that men shouldn’t be too persistent.”
“Tsk, tsk, you’re still too naive. Noona likes me.”
“I’m sure she does, but…” She doesn’t want to date you… “You have other ladies, don’t you?”
“Noona’s different, Baekho. One day, you’ll meet someone who’s like her—someone for you, and you’ll understand why I haven’t given up.”
***
You finished refilling glasses and informed the chef and owner of all the new orders.
“Thanks, kid. Minseon[5] and I can handle things from here.”
“Are you sure?”
As if on cue, Minseon walked over with a tray of dirty dishes. “We’ll be fine. You still have your shift at the call center, right? You don’t want to be late.”
“It’s already late,” the owner stated, pointing at the night sky. “I know, get Gapryong to take you there.”
You and Minseon shared an exasperated smile.
“Dad, stop setting them up. She’s not interested in dating or marriage, especially not with that thug.”
“Bah! He’s tall, reasonably good-looking, and with that body of his he can work anywhere so you don’t have to worry about money ever again. What don’t you like about him?”
“I think of him more like…a little brother. And he’s a playboy,” you answered.
“Exactly. Just last night, one of his girlfriends found out about his other girls and slapped him in front of everyone. It was pretty funny.”
The man waved his arms.
“You young women these days have such high standards. You’ll end up as old maids at this point.”
Minseon sighed, “That’s enough, dad.”
“Right, right, right. Go before you miss the train—oh, and take this lunchbox with you. I packed some boiled eggs for you to snack on.”
“I appreciate it, thanks, boss.” You bowed lightly. “See you both tomorrow.”
As you stepped outside the cafeteria, you sensed familiar footsteps right behind you. You didn’t need to turn around to know that it was Gapryong.
“You should’ve called me.”
“You always come even when I don’t so why bother?”
“I can’t argue with that.” Gapryong checked his watch. “It’s already nine p.m.”
“So it is.”
“You’re off to that call center again?”
“Yeah. Night shift.”
“What on Earth are they thinking, employing women this late?”
“Hey, don’t talk like that. I’m grateful they didn’t fire me.”
“What time do you finish?”
“Six a.m. It’ll be daylight then so you don’t have to pick me up.”
“No way. There are lots of pervs even at that hour.”
You shook your head. “Do what you want.”
“...”
“...”
“Hey, noona.”
“What is it?”
“Why are you working so hard? I mean, I know you like money, but what exactly are you saving up for?”
You glanced up at the moon. “I’m not sure, really.”
“...”
“I guess I just don’t enjoy being left alone in the silence. Working keeps me busy. By the time I’m done, I’m so exhausted that there is no space in my mind for worrying. I can sleep in peace.”
“...what will you do when you finally get your memories back?”
“I’m not sure.” You gave him a small, playful smile. “But at least I’ll have some extra cash by then.”
[1] Whenever I write about food in my fics, it's because I've been craving that specific dish. Alas, I'm on a diet so I can't eat them right now sdflsdf
[2] Okoge. Japanese, literally "burnt rice." Apparently, it's also slang for a woman who hangs out with gay men, i.e. a fag hag.
In the Philippines, we call it "tutong" and because I only eat instant dry rice for weight loss, I haven't had tutong in MONTHS. ദ്ദി╥ ᴗ ╥)
"The more you know aaand shooting star."
[3] For those who might not get the joke, in Japan, the honorific "-chan" is seen as very cutesy and is primarily used by children and women. Reminder that Gun (in the main AU) uses "Nee-san" while Shintaro here uses "Nee-sama." Seeing as how Shingen is Shingen (y'know, tall, muscle-bound and terrifying yakuza boss) using "-chan" when referring to his older sister seems silly now that he's an adult. (Also, disclaimer, I'm not fluent in Japanese, I'm just using what little knowledge I have based on the many Japanese media I've consumed.)

Hey🩵 how are you feeling these days? Pretty good I hope (I also play genshin and hsr got both Varka and Sparxie. My luck has been good 3 times in a row on both with out loosing. But I'm afraid I'll lose on the next banners)
I was re-read lookism and I came to the stalker arc rn. James/DG would definitely us his stalker situation to his advantage and Noona let him stay over at her place out of pity. When the situation was resolved Gun was the one to kick him out
It wouldn't surprise me that maybe he planned to escalate the stalker's actions by misleading her into breaking the law just to get to him. He's shocked (and maybe even scared) that she seems to do more than he anticipated, but he'll totally indulge in his Noona fretting over him when he comes "crying" about his situation.
edit:
oh and CONGRATS ON GETTING VARKA AND SPARXIE! They're both fun characters 🫶
