So, because last year was mostly spent in Lockdown. I decided to actually sit down and see if I could do a 22 page comic+ cover from scratch. And this is the first 9 pages of the result! I’ll post up the rest in a minute but I’m pleased with the results of this one. The colouring reminds me a little of the Beano’s vibrancy, but given the subject and overall feel, I think it fits!
An hotel, omnibus, loiterers and ... a chicken! by National Library of Ireland on The Commons Via Flickr: This delightful shot of an hotel in Westport, County Mayo is a great way to begin a week that promises to be a scorcher here in Ireland. The trees are offering plenty of shade for those who sit and await the departure of the omnibus to ...where? There is a lot of detail in the shot, not least the registration number of the 'bus together with the dress of the people standing about and the piles of leaves should help with the time of year if not the date? Sometimes it seems that we could have a stand-alone album for our many 'charabanc' images. Or even for this particular 'bus, registration number IM 180, which has been confirmed to be in the service of the Midland Great Western Railway. Other inputs from Niall McAuley, sharon.corbet, sissonni, and Beachcomber help us refine the 50 year catalogue range to less than 5 years in the early 1910s. In this period, the nature of road traffic started to change. And, while it was the 'airbrush' rather than the internal-combustion engine that removed all the manure from a postcard variant of this image, the same cannot be said for the modern StreetView.... Photographer: Robert French Collection: Lawrence Photograph Collection Date: Catalogue range c.1865-1914. Certainly after 1908 (AA signage). Likely c.1911 -1914 (char-a-banc) NLI Ref: L_ROY_11179 You can also view this image, and many thousands of others, on the NLI’s catalogue at catalogue.nli.ie
So, I've not done any art featuring the characters from my on/off thing Loiterers for a long while... Also Inktober's coming up... Might as well combine the two and challenge myself. Anyways, coming all over October, for 31 days, 31 incidents in a D&D game played by Dave, Chris, Jo and Jim against a Dickish DM. This is pretty much the set-up. Follow along at any of my social feeds for the Inktober posts:

I blame the comic creators I hang out with...
So, backstory to this one, there is a lovely group of comic creators in my home city and every month or so we get together for a Drink And Draw. Amongst other things we occasionally do a 24 minute comic challenge. You get two words chosen at random and have to make a comic in 24 minutes.
This is the results of one of them, sort of. Basically after I finished the actual attempt, I decided I was going to redraw it. And had a go at some fully digital inking as well... Not my most dynamic looking thing, but... hmm, still not 100% convinced by it.

Been attempting Full-Colour comics again! Behold! Loiterers, Issue 2! The Good Knight Rises! This took ages, mostly because I was working on it between other things and trying to get to grips with my graphics tablet. Seriously, look at the difference between the colours on the first page of the story and the last...
Anyway! Check it out and let me know how many locations I got wrong around Leeds! Everything is accurate to where it is when I wrote and drew the thing...
This may take some explaining....
Okay, so I joined the local (to me) comics collective earlier this year! And on one of the drink and draw gatherings, a 24 minute comic challenge was issued! In 24 minutes, you must draw a comic, based on the prompt: Smog Fuck.
So I did something. Then since I had some free time, I decided to redraw it, with colour, and lettering. Anyway, here's Chris and Dave finding a new suspicious website...
Faffing with digital again. Decided to try a single page comic to see what I could do. Simpler shading, some heavier blacks, even simpler lines. I dunno slowly figuring it out. Anyway, Nyarlathotep's trying for a comeback again. I dunno I think I just like the character design. Ancient Egyptian Supervillain, why not?
