Sometimes you just feel like designing the entire Serpentinite subgroup from Phyllosilicates and base them around reptiles.
•Serpentine: The "False Jade", is often the one in command. She's sassy and to the point. She's the default all-terrain serpentine and knows who to send in place.
•Antigorite: Tends to be the second in command if Serpentine is not available. Organizes while struggling to fuse when needed.
•Chrysotile: Or White Asbestos, is the most unstable in comparison to other serpentines and needs to work alone for the safety of other gemkinds! They specialize in underground work when possible.
•Lizardite: Most common of them all, while being relatively rare. She just follows orders and is content with forest terrains.
•Amesite: Largest and stronger of them all. Rarely works in group and will not obey orders coming from others that aren't serpentines. They work on ice deserts!
•Berthierine: Specializes in desert zones, where the terrain allows them to become specially fast. Otherwise, they can become quite slow in groups.
•Brindleyite: The least toxic, being able to be around other gemkinds and manage properties on already colonized stations, being the most common all-terrain.
•Caryopilite: Unlike other serpentines, they can cry acid tears that are specially toxic. They work at meadows, usually starting with any nearby river.
•Cronstedtite: They specialize in mountain terrains, even being able to climb upside down.
•Frainpontite: Being the most on tundras, they can melt the ice with their acid to the facilitate the job to other serpentines.
•Guidottiite: Used in volcanic activities, but she's not inmune to lava. She's the fastest of them all for her own safety.
•Kellyite: They are kept around in case of emergency outburst for specialiced colonies in progress of colonization.
•Népouite: The slowest of them all, because they prioritize in underwater activities and manage to do a job the rest of them all cannot.
•Pecoraite: They focus on swamp-like terrain. Their sense of smell helps them locate where the roots are located.
The Kindergartens serpentines emerged from resulted on being toxic not only to many plants but also to gemkind themselves. These are called "Serpentine barrens".
Serpentines are fast, elastic gems, typically used for hunting and terraforming as their toxic powers makes the job easier. They are able to spit acid and some of them, segregate acid via their own hands. Depending on the kind, their toxic levels will be higher, or lesser.
Some serpentines escort jades in balls, since some serpentines are specially valuable and fancy when not on missions. On missions, they work on groups of 3, or at least most of them, focusing on removing live beings of vegetation.

Lizardite is one of my many Houseki no Kuni OCs but I never really talk about him, even if I think his design is cool. Now it's his turn!
He's a hunter and a fighter, and he protects the Village of the Gems from the races of wild aggressive animals that inhabit the Mountain Archipelago. He's quiet and efficient and has many "lizard-like" abilities like fast reflexes and... A tail?? But he loves to spend time with other warriors, especially the more cheerful ones like Crocoite and Hafnon. He protects the ones that need to go away from the safety of the Village (Orientite and Anyolite for the wood they need, Kupferblau for his maps, Shigaite, Carletonite and Wenerbaurite for their biology/topography/geology studies)

Have a thing from the beginning of Buddy’s Book, with Jamie-as-Buddy narrating:
With Captain Dewey's legacy cemented — well, bronzed — I wondered what my legacy would be. Would anyone remember my name? Or will it be washed away by the ocean of time?
Oop, Jamie’s character symbol is mentioned - the ocean! More importantly though, we see Buddy’s last name spelled inconsistently between the library sign and his book in the beginning of this episode!
Would anyone remember his name? The library sign-maker obviously didn’t?? Don’t get me started on how Buddy himself accidentally misspelled Dewey’s last name - he writes it ‘Duey’!
In fact, names are a big thing in this episode - they’re mentioned in passing quite a few times. When Pearl and Garnet find Buddy:
...I'm just a humble traveler who wants my name to be remembered by everyone for all time.
Then Steven and Connie are looking at Buddy’s illustrations of gem sites:
Where'd he get these names from? Ooh! He got this one right!
Buddy seems a bit preoccupied with a) naming stuff and b) people remembering his name.
Then there’s another fun thing pointing to how I think Lion might somehow be standing in for or occupying Buddy’s place as a revived life form:
Surely, if I do explore these places, I'll be remembered as brave and courageous!
Hm. Like a lion, maybe?
This is strange that way - we know Jamie tends to freeze up with fear if he faces danger, but it was never explicitly said Buddy had that problem. If anything, Buddy’s fear was being forgotten.
And hey - whose actual first name is Buddy, anyway? Perhaps his worst fear came true and his real name has been forgotten.
Then you’ve got to wonder - will Jamie conquer his fears? Jamie has more common fears (heights, fighting) but he might have a more abstract one:
Jamie wants to be an actor, right? We’ve seen that he wants fame. There’s a link between Jamie and Buddy there! Neither of them want to be forgotten - “remembered by everyone for all time”?
We don’t know Buddy’s real first name - and we don’t know Jamie’s last!
You see The Wizard of Oz referenced a lot in SU meta - could a combination of Jamie’s and Buddy’s development be the SU answer to the Cowardly Lion gaining his courage? And if that’s the case, how would it be addressed? How do you give someone the courage to risk... dying in obscurity? Yeesh.
