The ThunderCats

Created by Tobin Wolf and produced by Rankin/Bass in conjunction with Pacific Animation Corporation, The ThunderCats follows the adventures of the eponymous team of heroes, cat-like humanoid aliens.  These beings had fled their home world after it is conquered by the villains Mutants of Plun-Darr.  Having barely survived their escape, the ThunderCats are marooned on a mysterious planet called Third Earth.  There they are tasked with protecting their civilization’s most sacred artifact, the Eye of Thundera, from attacks from marauding Mutants, the mystical Mumm-Ra and other various threats.  

Young Lion-O is made leader of the group, wielding the powerful Sword of Omens which contains the Eye of Thundera in its hilt.  His allies include the industrious Panthro, the speedy Cheetara, the stealthy tactician Tigra, the youthful twins WilyKit and WilyKat, as well as their pet watch-cat, Shnarf.    

Actor Larry Kenney provided the voice for Lion-O.  Additional voice actor included Lynne Lipton, Earle Hyman and Peter Newman.  The series first premiered in January of 1985 and ran for four seasons.  A number of sequels and reboot series followed.
