Hello, welcome for the Concept Art Database! Here I'll try to post interesting concept art, focusing on early designs for well known characters!

I'll also always try to put where I found the art in question in the post, though some of them might be reposts if the original was deleted or I haven't found it

No idea on how often I'll be posting, but I'll try to put at the very least 1 new thing per month.

Concept art for Car and Cable(?), a pitch for a show that later became The Transformers cartoon

These images were first found in a January 1985 issue of a magazine called Comics Feature, showing concept art for various shows being made by Marvel Productions.

For years, it was believed to just be art for an never made show unrelated to Transformers but with a similar premise, like Gobots, but the finding of an early pitch for the Transformers cartoon where Bumblebee was called Muffy and included human characters similar to those in the art revealed it's conections to the series (plus finding that last picture, which has Prowl's silhouette with a mix of his and Optimus Prime's weapons).

It's unknown if the name Car and Cable was actually used for this pitch, or if it was made up by the magazine in order to publish these images there.

Concept art for an early version of Star Fox Adventures called Dinosaur Planet

This game would have been released for the Nintendo 64, and been a new story unrelated to Star Fox. The main male character was named Sabre, and Krystal would have a bigger role in the story, pretty much as important as Sabre.

Early concept art and character designs for Splatoon

Before the decision of having humanoid squids as the main species of the game, many other creatures were considered for the playable characters (including some Mario characters like Yoshis).

For a good while the developers had decided on bunnies, but in the end squids made more sense for the gameplay elements they had created, like painting things with ink and shrinking.

Concept art for Fury Force, a concept for a Marvel comic that later became G.I. Joe

It was created around 1979 by Larry Hama as a group that worked for SHIELD to fight against terrorist forces, with one of the characters even being Nick Fury's son, Sgt. Nick Fury Jr.

Later, Hasbro approached Marvel's editor-in-chief Jim Shooter asking for ideas on how to relaunch their old GI Joe toy line, and the concept was adapted for it
