I am currently freaking out to my friend Mallorie via text about Light Years new EP 'Temporary'.

Let me tell it to you straight, Light Years is not just "another pop punk band". Their lyrics are proof enough of that. Imagine if blink-182 and The Swellers had a baby and named it Light Years. I've been talking about this band for well over a year now, and I just wish everyone could hear them. Their new release is nothing short of spectacular. Maybe I'm on a high from literally just hitting stop after the 5 songs finished, but fuck it, I'm blown away. I am an absolute sucker for bands who have serious / sad / hopeful - non girlfriend-bashing related lyrics, that also have melodies that make me wanna bob my head forever like I'm a car dashboard mounted bobble head. I think their style is an absolute breathe of fresh air in the scene they're in. They could have released an EP with a floral print on it, with a bright color washed filter, and gone for the slower more popular grunge sound that pop punk bands are doing, but instead they took their fast punk sound and made it MORE catchy and pop sounding. It sounds like that last sentence would maybe be a bad thing, but I can assure you, it's anything but.
