pencil? a detective? what kind of world do you live in where that's possible.
no recovery centers too, i'd bet. at least it's not to do with a garden.
"Pencil was an officer of the law. Served in the police force. I, on the other hand, threw myself into more... Dangerous fields. Detective work always stood out to me. Solving answers. Solving... People." Firestarter sighed, shaking her head.
You're not asking the right questions.
Firestarterrr~! Do you think you're any better than Pencil?
She mocked you, yes. She did things that these feeble minds never saw. Things behind walls—hot, metal walls—and sweeped under the rug.
But are you any better? Book. Remember Book's face? Begging you?
I have something for you, Firestarter. She would have wanted you to have it. I couldn't salvage anything from Pencil, though... what a shame.
*hands her a charred bookmark*
Firestarter stared down at the bookmark. Any words she wanted to say crumpled up and turned to ash in her throat, culminating in a thick, trembling breath. Her fingers gently traced over the dried cinders that charred it's once soft surface, turning it rough, dark, and breaking in her feather light hold. Something that felt so dangerously brittle.
How familiar.
"It was more than mockery." She breathed in. "She made me. She did this."
So many feelings came to her at once as she said those words. Pencil did this. It was her. She wrapped the bookmark around her wrist, tying it gently, yet with a knot that would stay in place. She blinked rapidly.
"... And yet in the end. They'll all say I did it because I cared. Wont they?" She sighed, staring down with an almost lamenting gaze. "Til death do us part."
We don’t know. Explain please?
"Didn't you hear? The mass slaughter? I was almost one of them. A detectives line of work is known to be quite dangerous, I suppose. I never would've thought such a highly respected officer would do such a thing."
