Did ya know Kita-san's weakness is static electricity?
(this idea came to me while folding clothes and I couldn’t stop laughing, so hope you guys find it half as funny as I did)
· you're the manager of Inarizaki and it's not unusual for boys to bring you random gifts cause you're all friends. it has become sort of a tradition almost
· one day Suna gives you a pack of balloons
· at the end of practice you blow them up and start fooling around
· you know how balloins get electrified and start sticking to things? yeah. that.
· you stare at a baloon in your hands, then at Kita
· his back is turned to you while he's talking to Aran and Omimi
· “Y/n-chan? Why are ya starin' at Kita-san?“ asks Atsumu
· instead of answering you walk over to the captain
· the second years watch in horror as you rub the ballon on Kita's hair and it stands up
· captain turns to you: “y/n. What're you doin'?“
· Atsumu's frozen in horror
· Osamu's waving you goodbye and regreting he never told you how much he liked your muffins
· and Ginjima's crying because this is the end of their manager
· Suna's filming the entire thing
· you give a surprised “ooo, you know Kita, you look pretty cute with your hair up“
· and then you waltz away
· Kita starts blushing
· and the rest of the team is shooketh
· that evening Kita stands in front of the mirror and wonders if maybe he should try a new hairstyle

A/N: inspired by Dream Theater's Beneath the surface (give it a listen, it's fire. and by fire I mean it makes me cry like a baby)
Genre: Angst
Falling in love with Kita is easy. How could it not be?
He brings you your favourite snacks, he walks with you to school and waits till your club activities are done to make sure you come home safe. When you need him he's only a call away. Falling in love with Kita is the easiest thing.
Your heart burns with the hope he feels the same, but the small voice in your head keeps planting the seeds of doubt. He's only being friendly, stop reading so much into it. How could he feel anything more than just friendship towards you anyway? Why would he?
You can think of only one way to tell. Your hands might tremble while writing the note, nevertheless you firmly believe this leap of faith is what you have to do.
But flowers of doubt bloom before you leave the confession letter in his locker. The time isn't right. Not yet. You need to be sure before putting your heart on the line, so you shove the letter back in your bag and walk home on your own. Kita never asks why you hadn't waited for him.
He takes you to a festival and on the way home you think this, this may be the right time. Perhaps the stars above would make you brave. Kita's fingers keep brushing against yours and still your heart falters. You hope he will make the move you're too afraid to, instead he merely smiles and wishes you goodnight.
Almost as if a line was drawn between the two of you, neither brave enough to cross it. You never knew hope could hurt so much.
Slowly the love you hold for him begins drowning in hesitation and doubt, till all you are left with is the pain and the fleeting whispers of what might have been.
The hike up the mountain was supposed to end in basking in the sun and admiring the view of the land beneath; not covering under a tree as rain poured from the sky.
He pulls out grass stems and plays with them while listening to your ramblings about the coworker who keeps leaving dirty cups everywhere. You look adorable, your nose all scrunched up in annoyance as you recount how a cup found its way into the broom closet of all places. He snickers at how dramatic you make the story sound.
He loves that about you. How you speak of the most mundane things in a way that makes him howl with laughter. How even the simplest of your gestures are filled with affection. How being with you makes him find happiness in the smallest of things.
Even the awkward talk following every fight, when you sit on the floor and both of your eyes are puffy and you sniffle as you try to understand what made the other upset, are a fond memory to him. A memory of a path walked together, a memory of growth, and a promise of a brighter future.
Almost 10 years, he thinks. Almost 10 years have passed from the day you walked into the classroom while he was in the middle of rigging teacher's table. Almost a decade since he took you to a caffee as an apology for getting you a week of detention. Almost a decade since he invited you to a summer festival and you took his hand because you were scared of losing him in the crowd. Almost a decade since he kissed you for the first time.
It scares him a little, the swift passage of time and how today turns into memory in a blink of an eye. It scares him, the thought of you one day being only a memory. It scares him that he can't do anything to prevent that.
He can only make the most of the time he has with you. He wants to be next to you when he falls asleep and when he wakes up. Today, tomorrow, and the day after.
He intertwines your fingers and looks at you in awe. How are you really his? How did he get so lucky to be able to love and be loved unconditionally?
The small ring of braided grass was made without a thought of purpose. He knows even one of gold adorned with the most precious of stones wouldn't be enough to convey his love properly. Only if you let him show it to you every single day for the rest of your lives then... then perhaps it would be enough. He raises your fingers to his lips before he asks.

Summer training camp. Your favourite week of the year. The one week you spent your meals sitting with other managers, gossiping and complaining over your teams. Even if the days were unbearably hot and you had to endure many sweaty hugs these were your favourite days.
Pratice for the day ended and you just returned from a shower when you hear someone calling your name.
“Y/n!“ You turn to see Akagi strolling over with the most innocent smile you had ever seen on his face. “Y/n, I need your help with a little somethin'.“
You narrow your eyes. The smile might be innocent, but the mischiveous gleam in his eyes gives him away. You already know his request won't go in a direction you’d like. “If it has anything to do with sun cream I'm out.“
“Hm? Oh no, it's somethin' else.“
“You could ask Twins. They'd probably do it.“
“Yeah, but they'll also rat me out if anythin' goes wrong.“ He flutters his eyelashes and you want to kick yourself when your stomach does a flip. Gods, he was so cute. “Besides y/n it won't be half as fun without my trusty sidekick!“ Ah. The trusty sidekick. That would be you. Ever since you introduced Akagi to this little thing called waterproof eyeliner, that made doodling on the faces of sleeping teammates so much more fun, he sought you out every time he got the urge to pull a prank. A part of you would complain, if you didn't enjoy his company so much.
“What do you need?“
He practically beams at you. “We need to go to the kitchen. Come!“ Akagi grabbs your hand and pulls you down the hallway. It was exciting really, sneaking through the hallways, avoiding other players and coaches.
Kitchen was empty as dinner ended hours ago. Door creaks a little when the two of you enter but besides that it's dead silent.
“No lights,“ whispers Akagi, instead pulls out a small torch. Your heart beats fast, not only because you'd get in real trouble if you were caught. He opens the fridge and pulls out a stick of cream cheese and a bottle of mayonnaise. “Y/n can you get me a knife and a spoon?“
You look through a few different drawers before finding them. “What are you doing?“ you peer over his shoulder.
“A little surprise,“ he mummbls, trying to ignore how close you're standing. He pulls a stick of deodorant out of his pocket and you groan. Oh, you know where this is heading.
“No, no Akagi that's a waste of cream cheese.“
Libero smirks while chopping off the top of deodorant, replacing it with cream cheese. “Oh come y/n, it'll be hilarious.“
“Will it?“
Akagi stopps for a moment, then shruggs. “Point taken.“ He fashions the cream cheese in a nice semicircle. If you didn't know it wasn't deodorant you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Whoever was the owner; you feel sorry for them. “A completely new Axe fragrance, fresh and creamy,“ he chuckles.
You barely manage to stifle a giggle. “Now let's get out of here before people start looking for us.“
“No no, y/n we're not done yet. Also I'll need your help with the next one.“
“Right. Do you want me to keep an eye on-“
“Nope, hold this.“ He shoves an empty toothpaste tube in your hands.
“Okay?“
You watch in horror as Akagi squeezes half the bottle of mayonnaise into the tube. “Remind me to never accept any gift from you,“ you mummble.
“Even if it's flowers?“ he asks.
“You'd probably hide a bunch of spiders in them.“
Akagi pretends to be insulted: “Why would I ever do that to you?!“
“For the same reason you're gonna swap someone's toothpaste with mayonnaise?“
“But the difference is I really can't stand that wing spiker from Himeji High, and you I like! So don'tcha worry y/n, there won't be any spiders.“
That makes sense. If he likes you then- oh. OH. Blood immediately rushes to your face and you're infinitely thankful the lights were off.
“There, all done.“ He puts food items back in the fridge, then returns to you and you hand him the unsuspicious looking tube. Akagi grasps your arm. “Wait. There's one more thing we could do.“
Oh there sure was, you think, your mind jumping to one of those scenes you read in shojo manga. “Yeah, get caught if we don't hurry back.“
“Come on y/n, it'll only take a minute.“ He glances around the kitchen then sighs. “No chairs eh? Can't be helped then.“ He looks back at you. “I'll lift you up and you unscrew the light bulb, 'kay?“
Your cheeks flame up and you quickly spin around, hoping he hadn't noticed already. “Like hell I'm doing that!“
“Please? I'll buy you ice-cream! Or coffee! Whichever you like better!“
It really does take so little for you to agree. Part of you wants to ask if it would be a date, but by gods, you don't have nearly enough courage. You sit on Akagi's shoulders, one of your hands tangled in his soft hair, and after he stands, reach for the lightbulb above your head.
“The other way,“ he says when you try unscrewing it with no avail, “But not all the way. Just enough to lose the connection to electricity.“
You do as he instructs. “Now what?“
With you still sitting on his shoulders Akagi walks over to the light switch and turns it on. Bulb flickers then goes back to black. “Perfect!“ he declares.
“Amazing,“ you smile to yourself, still worried about the fact the two of you had been here for quite some time and someone might start looking for you. “Can you put me down now?“
Akagi huggs your legs tighter. “Why? Don't you like feelin' tall?“
“Akagi Michinari I'm giving you 3 seconds and if you don't put me down I will tell Kita it was you who swapped Oomi-sensei's pen for a leaky one.“
“Fine, but then I'll tell him it was you who distracted him for long enough for me to do it.“
“Why am I being blackmailed?“
Akagi laughs and helps you back to the ground. “Because you make it too easy.“
You puff half in anger and half in embarassment. In the last weeks Akagi has dragged you into so many of his antics you'd at the least got suspended if teachers were to find out. It was a stupid thing to do, you knew that. But saying no to Akagi had become practically impossible. “Let's just go,“ you sigh.
While exiting the kitchens Akagi bumps your shoulders together and his fingers brush against yours. “Admit it y/n, you enjoy helpin’ me out.“
You never get the chance to answer.
“So then,“ speaks Coach Kurosu's voice behind the two of you, “mind explainin’ what you were doin' in the kitchens?“
Warnings: none, grammatical errors, mention of pads
Morning pratices weren't your cup of tea. No amount of watching the sunrise on the way to school could make you stop missing your soft and warm bed. Besides, it was autumn and crisp morning air made you miss it even more. Luckily just a short walk from the bus station separated you from the warmth of the locker room.
You were in the middle of changing when someone knocked on the door. “Y/n? Are ya in there?“ You quickly pulled on the team jacket and opened the door, Akagi squeezing inside. His hair was a mess and he was out of breath. “Quick, quick, you're a girl, you have some pads, right? Two or three will do.“
You blink at him. “Good mornin' to you too.“
“Aha, mornin', pads, don't have to be large. Or maybe they do? How big even are they?“
“Why on earth do you need a pad?“ Heat rose in your cheeks.
Akagi crouched and opened his bag, pulling out a something that, at first glance, seemed like a towel burrito with tiny ears.
You gasped. “Oh my gods Akagi?! Is that-?“
“This is is Chi-chan.“ He scratched the head of a tiny sleeping kitten.
You squeeled and took the black ball in your hands. It didn't wake up. Then you looked at the smiling libero. “Wait. Why do you have a cat?“
“Found it yesterday, abandoned by the road. And it's so small, I couldn't possibly leave it at home all alone! Now, can I get a pad, please? I really neeed to make a diaper. Don't ask. Let's just say, never let a kitten sleep on your pillow, no matter how cute it may be.“
You started laughing, then opened a cabinet on the wall and handed him a purple wrap. You cuddled the still sleeping Chi-chan while Akagi tried to make a diaper. It was adorable seeing the concentration on his face while he cut the product apart and forced a pen through it to make a hole for kitten's tail. “There,“ he triumphantly stood up.
You unwrapped Chi-chan who woke up and started meowing loudly, only stopping when Akagi took it and pressed it gently against his chest. “There, there,“ he cooed while you both tried to get it to stay still for long enough to pull the wanna be diaper on. “There! Now you'll be nice and clean right Chi-chan, yes you will.“
“Where are you gonna leave it?“ you ask.
Akagi thinks for a moment. “Well, it'd be bad if it got cold and since keepin' it with me durin’ practice would be dangerous... I was thinkin' our beloved manager could look after it.“
You snort. “I don't think Sensei or Coach would be very happy about me holdin' a kitten durin' practice.“
“But Chi-chan's a good little fella,“ he flutters his eyelashes at you. “Please y/n, just this time?“
You couldn't possibly say no to him when he was looking at you with those puppy eyes, especially after Chi-chan softly meowed. “Alright, alright! But just this time!“
“Thanks y/n! Say thank you Chi-chan.“ He gently put the kitten in your arms and gave you a quick hug. “I owe you one!“ he widely smiled and waltzed out of the locker room.
You stand there with a small black lump snuggling closer to you. Needless to say, it was not the last practice Chi-chan spent sleeping in the pocket of your jacket.
