the inarizaki volleyball team is convinced that kita is a god, or at the very least, a robot sent from the future to keep them from destroying the gym. he doesn’t fumble, he doesn’t panic, and he certainly doesn’t get flustered.

​until you walk into the gym carrying a box of freshly made, homemade bento lunches for the team.

​“ah, y/n!” atsumu yells, immediately dropping his ball and sprinting toward you like a wild animal. “did ya make the sweet tamagoyaki i asked for—”

​before atsumu can even reach you, a hand plants itself firmly in the center of his face, shoving him backward. kita steps directly between you and the twins, his posture perfectly straight, though his eyes are fixed intently on the box in your hands.

​“miya, pick up your ball and finish your drills,” kita says, his voice flat, but there’s a strange, tight tension in his shoulders.

​“aw, come on, kita, we’re just hungry—” osamu starts, but shuts up the second kita turns his gaze toward him.

​kita turns back to you, taking the heavy box from your arms with absolute care. his fingers brush against yours, and for a split second, the unflappable captain completely freezes. his eyes wide a fraction, and a bright, unmistakable blush spreads across his cheekbones.

​“thank you, y/n,” he says, his voice a little softer than usual. “you shouldn’t have gone to all this trouble for them. i’ll make sure they eat every bite. and... i’ll walk you home after i finish cleaning up.”

​atsumu squeaks from behind him, whispering loudly to his brother, “osamu... did ya see that? the robot just glitched.”

bokuto gifts you a gigantic plushie from the arcade. he had dragged akaashi to the nearest mall and tried his hardest the whole afternoon to win your favorite stuffed character from a stubborn claw machine. it's so big that everyone in the hallway ogles him as he proudly carries it to the gym. however, the beaming grin that appears on his face after he receives your sweet reaction rivals the plushie's already ginormous size.

kuroo gifts you matching gachapon rings. it's a little corny, and kenma prods at him by saying that it might even be a little possessive. but he argues and defends himself, saying that he spent all his 100 yen coins to get the matching set. in reality, he had been stuck on deciding on your gift all week, and the rings had been a last resort. he acts all cool when you both slip them on, but he almost melts into a puddle when you give him a fist bump, the matching heads of pukka and garu meeting in a kiss.

daichi gifts you a classic chocolate box. at first, he was afraid of appearing too forward, especially to one of his closest friends. but after a little pushing and prodding from suga and asahi, he finds it in himself to approach you after practice and gift you the heart-shaped box. he's a little more bashful than his usual, firm self, but you accept it anyways—loving how karasuno's strongest captain somehow grows weak in the knees at the sight of you.

kita gifts you a handmade bento. he knows all your favorite food by heart, as well as your tells. every detail is meticulously planned and executed, down to the hello kitty-shaped rice's ham ribbon and the sesame seed eyes of the mini octopus sausages. the miya twins and suna camp out behind the gym just to see him give it to you—though he couldn't care less. let it be known to all of inarizaki that their captain's eyes were set on one heart and one heart only!

ushijima gifts you a colorful package of vitamin supplements. it's for your health, he says. good for rainy days, he adds. in reality, it's cause he can't stand seeing you sick. without you to rely on for your trusty notes and quiet reassurance, how else could he excel on the court? at least, that's what he tells himself. meanwhile, his stoic affection for you is as clear as day to the rest of the shiratorizawa roster.

oikawa gifts you the cutest plush keychain. he took iwaizumi with him downtown and spent hours choosing between different variations and outfits of your favorite character. iwaizumi swears they spent an entire day in that store, but oikawa shuts him up to hand you the precious gift. he's all confident about it, but deep down, he's anxious and fears he might just die if he doesn't see it hanging from your backpack tomorrow morning.

your husband thinks he knows you pretty well by now; the only grey zone was the first day of your period. somehow, you always managed to surprise him with something then.

now, as you’re lying in bed, curled up under the duvet and groaning as the pain rolls through you in unpleasant waves, your husband is tiptoeing around you and making sure you have everything you need.

“you did this to me,” you mumbled, catching him off guard in the way you glared at him.

his jaw dropped, and he considered the pros and cons of just agreeing and taking the blame if that made you feel better. “I see…”

“if you got me pregnant, I wouldn’t have my period.”

his lips were now entirely pursed, a small squeak sounding from his throat. he sure would love to get you pregnant, but you both agreed to wait another year.

instead of speaking his thoughts, he came over to your side and stroked your arm comfortingly, urging you to relax so you could sleep it off. “I know, honey. how about I order your favourite pizza for dinner later?”

it might sound like he was talking to a child, but it worked as you scrunched your face up in pain and nodded at the suggestion. “you’re so good to me.”

he lifted his palms and shoulders, thinking to himself hell yes I am. “it’s easy when it’s you, my love.”

it is not. he loves you, but you're going to cause him a heart attack.

Kita holding your wrists behind your back because you wouldn't stop poking him. You try to wiggle free by reflex and Kita's just laughing. But you freeze all of a sudden, and he can feel just the smallest bit of force as you actually try to free yourself. "If I let you go, will you behave?" He asks, still smiling. But you know the moment he recognizes your reaction because his smile drops and his brows pinch instantly. Then the confusion on his face is replaced with understanding and curiosity in less than two seconds.
