Florida Senate candidate Jake Lang climbed on top of a rented U-Haul this week and tried to burn Pride flags outside an ICE facility in New Jersey.

Multiple attempts fizzled out as Lang sprayed lighter fluid, relit the flags, and watched the flames repeatedly go out. At one point he yelled, “Happy Pride Month,” toward what appeared to be a crowd of exactly two supporters, including one man following the truck while banging a small handheld gong.

Lang used the event to attack LGBTQ people, immigrants, and political opponents while promoting his Senate campaign. This is the same candidate who was pardoned by Trump after serving time related to the January 6 attack on the Capitol and who has previously drawn condemnation for antisemitic and extremist remarks.

The whole thing was apparently meant to look like a show of strength. Instead, it turned into a guy fighting a Pride flag, a lighter, and basic weather conditions.

But I have decided we needed the intersex flag colours as well, because I feel like they are forgotten a bit too often in discussions, also, we all deserve representation. <3
