spots them from across the crowded room, attempts to hide her shock as she lets the person stood next to her finish their conversation. but her eyes can't pull themselves away, heartbeat thrumming in her chest. the moment she can, she's excusing herself, polite only for the sake of her fathers attendance tonight. doesn't want to deal with the fallout if she messes up. again. " what the hell are you doing here ? " words are spewing out as soon as she approaches, expression impassive. " i told you not to come. " @cocained liked for a starter ♡

                              ‘   lenora.   ’ he says astutely, the only preamble for what he’s going to say next. ‘   i’m gonna convert. so.   ’ a smile peeps from his otherwise stone-faced expression, his views on religion are ambivalent at best, but last night he’d had a revelation. that she has to be nice to him, if he’s joins her team. and he’s desperate for it, a friend or something. the payoff will be worth it, to see her light up at the prospect of a new recruit, and with a little bit of mental gymnastics he can pretend it’s in some part, because she cares about him. 

On a strictly physical level, Lenora is terrified of small spaces. Bitch has an intense case of claustrophobia, rooted in when she was little and demonstrated accidental magic. She wound up in the crawl space of the family’s home for a fifteen minutes before getting herself out, and it’s fucked her up ever since.

The idea of failing. More specifically, Lenora is terrified that she’ll be unable to make it on her own, be it in her lifestyle or her career, after all of the hard work she put in to being able to cut off ties with her family. Beyond that, she’s afraid that she’ll end up falling flat and then word will get back to her parents. She can just imagine the level of smugness that would give them.

With Elara, when/if Lenora sees her again, there’ll still be guilt, but of a different sort. She knows that Elara is way more sensitive than she could have ever been, and even though she’s nineteen now, she’s still a little kid in Lenora’s mind. It makes Lenora more sad than angry to know that Elara is still in their parents’ world. Really though, given Elara’s nature and the fact that she had both Ivy as an example and Lenora as a warning before her, she can’t have expected her baby sister to have done much else. Lenora isn’t sure how she’ll react when she sees her again, but she can hope that she’s able to reel in the anger and scathing remarks that are her go-to responses under stress. She doesn’t know if she could stand to hurt Elara like that.
