I love how much vitriol can be shoved into an appology, a "sorry for the inconvienence" can range from geninue, to "I fully intended the inconvience, additionally I'd have broken both your knees having I had the chance".
Growing up in the midwestern boondocks on a farm had done irreparable damage to my vocabulary
I had to tell someone to pick up some oil to cook with so I said “pick up some rape oil” and got looked at like I just started speaking in tongues
rape is shorthand for canola or more accurately rapeseed, which is the same plant but bred for different qualities
My neighbors would say shit like “got a lot of rape in this year” or “that’s some good rape there” and nobody bat an eye, but the second you say that shit around a city slicker and they’re shaking harder than a skeleton in a brothel closet
As far as I can tell, Cue and Queue have completely different origins, Cue possibly coming from the letter Q for Quando (when) and Queue having a much more concrete origin in Cue, French for Tail (it’s a tail of people)
But then Cue directly comes from Queue because original pool cues kind of looked like tails

Every time I see the word kayfabe I always misread it and end up grabbing the nearest looking word on instinct so I keep reading posts like "Aw man my favorite wrestler broke his key fob 😞"
a fun quirk of chinese is how "already" is used differently than it is in english. its a tricky word bc the translation is pretty much 1 to 1, but the use cases are different
im thinking mostly in service contexts, where you'd expect to see "Your log-on was successful!" or "Your package has been shipped!" you'll instead see "You have already logged on!" or "Your package has already been shipped!"
it tripped me up the first few times i saw it, but in these contexts it means "this action has been completed, as indicated by this message" and not what an english speaker would expect, which is "there was an issue with the thing you just tried to do, since the goal you were looking for was already in-progress" - like, you-can't-log-in-twice kind of errors.
