Mama Masina stepped away from dinner for a moment and was shocked to find that the dining room was suddenly quiet.

A quiet dinner in a home full of boys? Not possible.

She entered to find all her sons sitting quietly, motionless, glaring at each other intensely.

"What's going on?"

There was a brief silence before anyone finally spoke, worried it'd break their concentration.

Hunk was the first to go, groaning as he slumped back in his chair.

"We're having a staring contest to see who gets the last piece of pani popo, mama."

That's when she recognized the bun sitting alone in the middle of the table, untouched.

"Let Tatsuo take it home. Nobu and Yuki love their Baba's pani popo."

Hearing his name made Tatsuo snap, blinking his eyes momentarily from Hajime's gaze.

"Damn!" He banged his fist on the table, rattling the metal silverware against the surface.

"No. We already know Tatsuo would just eat it on the way home." Hunk laughed.

Tatsuo slouched forward, before excusing himself from the table, carrying his plate and glass to the kitchen.

"He's right. Plus, Nobu and Yuki hate sharing food."

"So they're at that age now huh?" Tatsuo approached, hunching over and stretching his arms around Mama Masina's shoulders, pulling her into a tender hug.

"They used to eat cookies out each other’s diapers as toddlers, now they can't even handle the other one touching them too long."

"Aw that sounds like some brothers I know, she glanced lovingly over at Hiroki and Hajime who were leering at each other.

Hajime made a low, lingering hum as he bit his lips, eyes twitching but Hiroki held strong, face unmoving.

"Oh--Haha's gonna crack!" Hunk cheered. Hajime tugged on his eyelids in a last ditch effort, but ultimately ended up blinking. "Fuck!" He shouted.

"Language!" Hunk laughed. "You're a monster, dude." Hajime quipped.

"I bet he sleeps with his eyes open." Tatsuo added upon returning.

And then there were two.

Everybody watched intensely as Kenta and Hiroki, lifelong rivals, glared at each other intensely.

This was like second nature to the two bros that didn't really tolerate each other.

Hajime held his spoon up to his mouth as a faux microphone.

"Hiroki's resting bitch face has gotten him this far-- but can Kenta's appetite bring him the win?"

Kenta spoke, catching all of the eliminated by surprise.

"I'm not even hungry. I just don't want this guy to have it."

Hunk grabbed his spoon and dramatically announced onto it. "Ooh. Ice cold."

Hajime shimmied as he chanted in an increasingly louder whisper. "Alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright."

The whole room burst into laughter and Kenta bit his cheek, trying to quell the laugh within him before a giggle slipped out, then he was squeezing his eyes shut, bursting into laughter as everyone cheered and applauded.

"I'm gonna-- fuckin kill you, Haha." He laughed, overtaken by a fit of giggles as he reached over and fisted his brother's t shirt.

Hiroki stood triumphantly, grabbing the coco bun from the foil pan in the center of the table and cramming it into his mouth.

"How can you even fit that in your mouth, Hiroki?" Tatsuo ogled at the man, chomping down on the sweet coconutey prize.

"The same reason the knees of his pants are always rubbed out..." Hajime muttered, loud enough for Kenta, Hiroki, and Hunk to hear which sent Hiroki out of his seat, laughing as he clenched his too full stomach. Instead of beating the smaller man he settled for discreetly flipping him the bird instead.

"You boys stop playing around while he’s eating. Hiroki’s too tall for me to give him the Heimlich maneuver." Mama Masina scolded.
