I found saru’s arc in disco to be very frustrating. They had a prime opportunity to explore how someone like Saru deals with being constantly afraid, and how even if you have trouble controlling your anxiety , It doesn’t have to define you, or your ability to function. But instead, it was solved externally with some sci fi biology stuff that, while developing kelpians as a whole, offered little insight into saru’s own character and made his development redundant.

The Terrans don’t see Kelpians as cattle. If they did, they would not clothe them or use them as slaves. No. They recognize the Kelpians as sentient, yet deny them names, and eat them.
