So Keiza was 7 or 8 when Ursa disappeared. She was relatively close to her mom (she was not the favorite of either parent and ended up having the closest to a normal childhood because Ozai was more or less indifferent to her and didn’t even know her name).

So she is neither Zuko-fucked up or Azula-fucked up (she is fucked up, but in her own way).

So the rundown: Keiza had a comparatively normal childhood with pretty typical sibling relationships. She and Azula were only 18 months apart, so they sort of ended up a duo (my sister and I are kind of a duo, so that’s how I decided on that relationship). Zuko liked her better than Azula because she wasn’t like, as bad, but she was still 3 years younger and she was still an annoying little sister.

Keiza listened in on the Ozai-Azulon-kill-Zuko chat because Azula dragged her back there with Zuko and she was too scared to run away. So she hears her dad agreeing to kill her brother, who she does love.

Then she tells her mom, and three hours later her mom comes into her room and says goodbye.

Keiza understandably has abandonment issues and understandably is really mad at Ursa.

The Search goes… differently because Keiza is really upset. And refusing to admit it.

Keiza is very talkative. She was about 9 when Ozai actually figured out that her name wasn’t ‘the one who doesn’t shut up’.

Mentioned in an earlier post, but Zuko and Keiza’s birthdays are 3 days apart. Zuko’s is the winter solstice (AKA in the fire temple episode it’s his 16th birthday) and Keiza’s is right before that. So she turns 13 in like, Imprisoned. While they’re flying to the fire temple she vaguely puts together that it’s Zuko’s birthday and then says happy birthday to him while he’s trying to capture Aang.

Miyara’s birthday is in mid-fall. She is almost a year younger than Keiza but they are best friends

Azula’s 6th birthday (her birthday is in like the equivalent of July) was spent at the ember island arcade, and the children (who were 7.5, 6, and 4.5) were sent off alone, but Zuko and Keiza went a different way from Azula. Keiza started watching a puppet show but Zuko just sort of… abandoned her. At age 13 she still talks about it.

Miyara is very into ignoring anything she doesn’t want to think about. Her bending? What bending? Her parents? What parents? Her best friend turned out to be a double-crosser? Who’s Keiza? Keiza is actually a TRIPLE-crosser and never actually agreed with the fire nation? Oh, that Keiza!

Keiza has a scar on her temple because when she was 5, she and Azula talked Zuko into doing a human ladder to get something from a high shelf and Zuko moved, effectively throwing her into the pantry shelf. She got a really bloody gash and she still compares all pain to ‘being thrown into a pantry shelf’. It’s like an inside joke that Zuko gets but doesn’t like.

Keiza is really bad at telling jokes, by the way. A Keiza original for your understanding:

‘Why did the banana go to the moon? Because the knock-knock joke was on a watermelon!’

Miyara… is not as bad at jokes.
