This is in no particular order!!

I had this idea that Kat's mom had something very similar to Kat herself. In the sense that she started seeing stuff but Kat was only a child and was like "No. Stop." Because if her mom is crazy, they'll be separated.

For anyone new here, the K.A.T. AU is a THH × OC Gacharonpa project on my YouTube channel. It's currently on hiatus and has been since the beginning of Chapter 2, about 2½ years ago. The first victim and killer were Byakuya and Aoi.

When I wrote that case, I was only 13 years old. It was the first real story I'd ever uploaded online, and I was following the style that was popular among Gacha creators at the time: short music videos that focused on the major plot points rather than fully fleshed-out storytelling. I even decided the original death order by spinning a wheel, and the first case is the only part of that original order that remained.

Looking back, there are a lot of things I'd do differently. As I worked on the project, I realized that format wasn't the kind of story I wanted to tell. I stepped back so I could rethink my ideas and write events that felt intentional rather than included just because they happened to be on the wheel.

I'm almost 18 now, and I've grown a lot as both a person and a writer during the years this project has existed. While I'm okay with the overall concept of the first case, I probably would've rewritten it, or even chosen different characters for it, if I were starting from scratch today.

When I switched from short skits to full episode scripts in that time away from posting, I considered deleting everything and remaking the project from the beginning. In the end, I decided not to. The first chapter reflects where I started, and I think leaving them up shows how much I've improved over the years, despite it being, admittedly, kind of bad and detached.

That said, I do wish I'd had the chance to develop both Aoi and Byakuya more before their deaths. One of my biggest goals with the later chapters is to give every character the time and attention they deserve before their story comes to an end.

So I thought about it and get ready for a ramble.

- Kat and her mom make the best of their unfortunate life when Kat is a child. Her father is gone (due to unclear reasons) and her mom is very resentful of this. Kat is raised with the “men ain’t shit” talk from her mother. 

- Poor kiddo gets bullied (though not to a large extent) at school. Kids are mean because they know her mom is sorta not mentally there and they avoid Kat. 

- Kat’s childhood at home is full of magic literally and figuratively. She gets a cool little pet bird because her mom thinks she needs a friend. They bake! They tend to a garden together. They have little tea parties! Flower crowns and such! (this is when her mom is having good episodes)

- During the bad episodes, Kat is full on babysitter.
