Dark Age - Grafter by Brom
The Darkest of Dark Ages
It seems clear that infanticide is the wave of the future in the West
A new Dark Age is upon us. The therapeutic culture has perverted our cultureās moral imagination. Fail to affirm someoneās gender fantasy by refusing to use their āpreferred pronounsā and one can face the loss of livelihood. Suggest that only women menstruate and, like J. K. Rowling, one can receive threats of rape and murder. Fail to back Pride Month, surely the most blatant current form of Western imperialism, and be decried as a hate-filled bigot. We truly live in a world where good is called evil and evil is called good and where the murder of innocents is seen as a sign of moral progress. Indeed, the former Dark Ages perhaps donāt seem quite so dark in comparison...
It is well-known that 1 in 20 Canadian deaths now comes at the hands of Canadaās own government.
The Netherlands, a new boundary has now been crossed: The government has recentlyĀ reportedĀ the first euthanizing of a child between the ages of 1 and 12.
The West is already listing hard towards a culture of eugenics. IVF and surrogacy cannot in practice be separated from eugenic considerations.
Icelandās boast that it has virtually eliminated Down syndrome is a thin euphemism for its elimination ofĀ peopleĀ with Down syndrome.
Ā Given that psychological distress is already a criterion for making one a candidate for euthanasia in the Netherlands, it is surely a small move to make psychological distress caused by another who lacks agencyāan infant or an elderly person with dementiaāas grounds for the termination of life.
The truth is that the euthanizing of children with terminal illnesses is only plausible as a practice within a culture where other values are already broadly intuitive. Where family ties carry no innate moral responsibility. Where immediate psychological well-being is the essence of the good life. Where moral challenges are easily dispatched as technical problems. And those intuitions are no monopoly of Canada, Iceland, or the Netherlands. They are the default cultural settings of the West as a whole. In this context, countries that present the most extreme actions of today are likely only the avant garde of what will be considered tomorrow to be routine, even socially necessary, actions. And in the process, the weak will become weaker and the vulnerable will become more vulnerable. Infanticide is the wave of the future because it comports so well with the imperative of the therapeutic society.

The Dark Ages P.1
The first line of the rulers of the Dark Ages⦠Was not started by one egotistical Queen, but rather the manipulation and fallout of such a young Queen⦠The burden of a crown should never fall to such a young head. Luna- She was named Queen much younger than any before her and after, with a couple notable exceptions⦠Poor child, people saw a flower that they pinned to themselves to achieve their own goals and cared not for the Queendom or the Queen⦠But this rose⦠had a few thorns.
Helia- Quite an exceptional Mage, the same couldnāt necessarily be said for her skills as Queen. True she was smart but, disinterested in the whims of royals or politics of a nation, preferred spending time working on spells.
Helion- Named after his mother, and he was, in many ways, an extension of her reign. Inheriting her passion for magic, he decided to take it a few steps too far⦠Losing quite a lot. He is also the primary ancestor of the Last of the Fireflys and the first Butterflys.
When the universe was born in chaos: how cosmic turbulence forged the firstĀ stars New high-resolution simulations reveal that the universe's first stars were not born in calm isolation ā they were forged inside violent supersonic storms inside primordial dark matter minihalos, and they were far less massive than decades of theory predicted.... https://skycr.org/2026/06/22/cosmic-turbulence-first-stars-population-iii/

How incessant rain, starvation, and extreme desperation shattered the social fabric and mindset of the Middle Ages.
I need help finding sources
Iām writing a story right now, and Iām looking for information on Ireland in the 900s. Especially culture and day-to-day life, but really anything at this point. I can find stuff about plenty of other places during that era, and I can find stuff about Ireland during plenty of other eras. There is such a lack of information about this specific niche, and I know something has to be out there somewhere! If you know of any books (nonfiction for research purposes, of course, but if you have any fiction recs Iād love to hear them), blogs, articles, podcasts, documentaries, anything at all please let me know! If you have any suggestions about where to find aforementioned content, please let me know! Also if youāre someone who knows a lot about this subject and you think thereās any specific thing I should know or any fun facts, please share! Thank you!
