fucking CACKLING after thinking about how seeing ilya made shane's heartrate go down in the hospital because i'm imagining shane being out of it and mildly combative/confused/upset after something like getting his wisdom teeth taken out or something and really ONLY calming down with ilya right next to him, which is very sweet

except for the fact that it's now ilya's turn to be VERY nervous about what shane is going to say in front of his parents in a reversal of shane having about three heart attacks concurrently thinking he was going to have to hear ilya explain the concept of fuckbuddies during the dinner scene

because yes very sweet that shane wasn't listening to ANYONE about rinsing his mouth out until ilya said to do it, but shane's obedience is not limited to heeding medical instructions, and ilya is SWEATING about shane's drugged mind playing connect the dots with how much he likes ilya telling him to do things and deciding to start talking about it

#heated rivalry #ilya being a very sweet partner and holding a cup up for shane because there's some blood in his mouth after changing the gauze out #and telling him to spit #and shane who is in OUTER SPACE just half-smirking and ilya knows what's coming even before shane slurs out a #'that's not what you usually-' 'SHANE. THE BLOOD. I love marinating my posts #Surely everyone knows what comic I'm referencing here right 😊 right 😊😊#I feel like for Jason whenever he's interacting w Bruce or Dick or people he knew before he died I think there's a lot of times where he'll #reference things and the way he phrases it or the situations in which he brings it up make it seem like he's trying to be inflammatory #and sometimes he definitely is ! king of making people mad as hell #but also I think a lot of the time he's doing it as hmm. a way of commiserating? or reminiscing #hey remember this thing you told me or when we did that #just bringing up shared history . kind of having an inside joke moment #except its not jokes and is often in extremely awful and stressful situations #like in UTRH when Alfred is thinking about how he and Bruce as a kid would go around collecting first-edition books #and Jason sends him a couple as a way of confirming his identity because only he and Dick know about that tradition #I think he should do things like that all the time ESPECIALLLY to dickbats it would make him soo miserable.#And againJason saying something like this to him wouldn't be as much a fuck you kys (Is there bitterness? flambae taking robert back to his place for some "fun", and him telling robert to go and lay on the bed. and robert does, and he almost immediately just falls asleep right there because he hasn't slept on a real bed in who knows how long, and the exhaustion just caught up with him. and flambae is like "did he really just fall asleep?" and goes over to him and is like "robert?" with a degree of concern in his voice that he will not admit too. and when robert doesn't respond or stir and just keeps softly breathing as he continues to sleep.

flambae just sighs, but the sound isn't really an annoyed one. and moves to carefully take robert's shoes off and moves him so he can lay more comfortably on the bed. and tucks a warm blanket over him. and he sits down by the bedside. looking at robert. and after a moment, he just reaches out and very gently moves some of robert's hair out of his face. if he runs his thumb over robert's cheek like how one would tenderly caress the face of their lover, no one will know about that except for him. and if robert moves in his sleep to press against the warm palm of his hand. no one except him will know about that either. or how flambae looks at him for a moment, before pulling his hand back and running that hand over his face and just quietly uttering "fuck..." as he thinks that he may be in too deep with all of this and just wondering how he ended up with the man he hated sleeping peacefully in his bed.

I love this part so much -- the way this chapter parallels qifrey with coco's mother in multiple ways, including visually here in them both draping fabric over her protectively. the way he doesn't presume to step into her mother's place, but takes on the duty of shielding coco from the cold in her absence. visually we're also placed under the safety of his wing, as it were, to witness coco's most vulnerable state, feeling with her how big and steady and safe he is in her eyes despite as readers having just seen him as a confused hurting child himself for several chapters and knowing all his foibles and missteps well after almost 100 chapters. among all the other things shirahama is a master of, these subtleties of character perspectives is one of the most devastating ones to me.

(for all of the everything going on I think qifrey is actually consistently good at making sure he maintains the role of the adult in this relationship. he recognizes coco's reflexive smile as something akin to his own masking, but he doesn't bleed his own emotions into that, he's there to support her and actually manages to do it. and he apologizes when he slips up, which is probably just as important.)
