Deutsche Lufthansa Junkers Ju 90 Württemberg, location and date unknown. Transferred to Luftwaffe transport service and was the basis of the Ju 290
Junkers Ju 90B-1 transport (J4+JH) of Lufttransportstaffel 290 under attack by a Martin B-26 Marauder, flown by Wing Commander WSG Maydwell, the Commanding Officer of No. 14 Squadron RAF flying from Tunisia, 23.7.43. The Ju 90 headed for shore at Bastia, the Marauder then breaking off to avoid Flak. The Ju 90 was hit by the Marauder and Flak. The pilot, Oberfeldwebel H H Boldt, ditched it in the sea, where it remains for the enjoyment of divers. Wg Cdr Maydwell’s crews had 3 confirmed kills, all large transports: this Ju 90, a Messerschmitt Me 323 Gigant and a Savoia Marchetti SM.82. For more, see my Facebook group - Eagles Of The Reich

Messerschmitt Bf 109 V21. On 18 August 1939, it took off with an American Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp engine. The engine most likely came from a Junkers Ju 90 airliner ordered but not delivered to the South Africans. The V-21 (civil registration number D-IFKQ, W.Nr. 1770) was created on the basis of a heavily redesigned Bf 109E-3. Surprisingly, according to the reports of the corporate tester, the aircraft performed well in the air, its behavior was similar to that of Emil. Later, it flew in the interests of the research organizations Deutsche Forschungsanstalt für Segelflug (DFS) and Luftfahrtforschungsanstalt Hermann Göring e.V. (LFA) until at least September 1940.
