god, w/r/t last rb too, it's just so insidious isn't it. with stephanie it's extra scary because it really falls into the Black girls being fast thing; she had a baby, dude. and her pristine wealthy white boyfriend who refused to respect her didn't deign to sleep with her because he was a respectable young man. and she and jason having to be so Grown so fast, in charge of parents that are failed by the systems around them but that's never how it's presented, it's always just oh their parents are Addicts and Criminals. they're denied agency in the stories and because of that it IS easy to slot them into these roles isn't it! and they're ignoring the canon to put them into these stereotyping racist boxes! stephanie is using allusions and she's referencing novels and plays and she's so SMART and driven and is shut down over and over but instead of that being acknowledged by the majority of people doing these swaps, it's just fed into. and people think it's funny and ironic to dumb jason down to liking austen because isn't it silly because he's so big and stupid except for the joke. ignoring the flips and the smarts and the fucking everything. they get to say idk they just really seem Black and Latine to me idk why 🤔 but it's adding diversity why are you mad?? and it's like. what about duke. have you ever said that damian is feral. i'll kill you

what would be really nice is if they made a steph ongoing that focused on themes of reincarnation and unfairness and how bruce and tim had trwated her so horribly and the complicated relationship of havingan addict mother who you love and having a criminal father you don’t (& of course normal steph themes like hope and persistence etc etc) and the art is amazing and the writing is amazing and it goes on for years and also on a unrelated note jason is shoved off to the side for eternity to smiley blankly in the background

I'm still not back into reading comics #sowwy, but I've been thinking about priest Jtodd again, and how in that universe he got involved in the very hypermasculine sphere of street-level violence, just as much as our Jtodd did in her vigilantism sphere. And how priesthood is how he escaped from that. And how a priest almost isnt a man, how it degenders you, makes space for some kind of androgyny. What I'm saying is Can We Get Her Out Of There. What I'm saying is what about a fic where our (post-transition) Jay accidentally multiverse-chaos-style ends up with priest Jtodd, who gets defrocked bc of something (? Or maybe just removed from the church for a while through Jay), and Jtodd freaks out bc now he has to be A Man again, and this was his one escape from that. And basically our Jay thinks Jesus Christ I need to save me, I mean her. And they go on a forcefemme roadtrip together. (Forcefemme used very liberally here. More like approaching a startled horse femme.)
