#Repost @obsessedwithmovies ・・・ Variety is reporting that Zahn McClarnon is in talks to star in the adaptation of the Stephen King novel “Doctor Sleep,” Warner Bros. Pictures’ sequel to the 1980 Stanley Kubrick film “The Shining.” In addition, Deadline reports that Carl Lumbly and Alex Essoe are set to star in the project. The film, which will also star Ewan McGregor and Rebecca Ferguson, will be directed by Mike Flanagan (Gerald's Game, Oculus) from a script he rewrote from an initial draft by Akiva Goldsman. The book follows "[Danny] Torrance [who] carries the trauma of the Overlook Hotel into adulthood. He’s become a reflection of his murderous father, with lingering rage and a drinking problem that dulls his pain as well as his “shining” powers. Those powers return when he embraces sobriety and uses his gift to help the dying at a hospice. He establishes a psychic connection with a young girl who shares his extreme abilities, and who is being targeted by a group with similar abilities. They’ve found that their powers grow if they inhale the “steam” that comes off others with the power to shine, when they are suffering painful deaths." McClarnon is in talks to play “Crow Daddy, the right-hand man of Ferguson’s character.” Lumbly will play “Dick Halloran” in the film, while Essoe will play “Wendy Torrance.” Scatman Crothers and Shelley Duvall played those roles in Kubrick’s adaptation of King's “The Shining,” respectively. Flanagan’s Intrepid Pictures partner Trevor Macy and Vertigo Entertainment's Jon Berg will be producing the project, while Goldsman will executive produce. "Doctor's Sleep" is set for a release on January 24th, 2020.
