There will always be one name that defines Wonder Womanβ¦ Lynda Carter.β¨But her story didnβt start with her.
Before the world discovered Diana Prince in 1975, there was an earlier attemptβ¦ almost forgotten. In 1967, a pilot titled Whoβs Afraid of Diana Prince? starred Ellie Wood Walker (actress 1 in the photo). It was a comedic take on Wonder Woman, and it never aired. The character simply didnβt land.
Fast forward to 1974. Warner Bros. was determined to make Wonder Woman work. They cast Cathy Lee Crosby (actress 5) in a more modern, non-traditional version of the hero. The result? A TV movie that failed to connect with audiences.
But they didnβt give up.
One year later, everything changed.β¨Enter Lynda Carter (actress 2 in the photo).
From 1975 to 1979, she didnβt just play Wonder Woman, she became her. The strength, the elegance, the presenceβ¦ everything aligned. And the show became an international success, shaping generations.
Decades later, Hollywood kept trying to bring her back.
In the mid-2000s, a new Justice League film was in development, with Megan Gale (actress 6) cast as Wonder Woman. But the project collapsed, largely due to the 2007β2008 Writers Guild of America strike and other production issues.
Then in 2011, another attempt: a TV pilot starring Adrianne Palicki (actress 4). A redesigned costume, a new tone⦠but the show was never picked up.
And then, finally in 2016, Wonder Woman returned to the big screen with Gal Gadot (actress 3). A global success. A new era.
But through every version, every attempt, every rebootβ¦
There will be many Wonder Women.β¨But there will only ever be one Lynda Carter.
