Anyhow. I'm here now. And I'm ready to ramblerumble.
Butler!
First impression
Giant and awesome and also very large and also very awesome oh oh and also bald.
Impression now
So tired. So very very tired. The man deserves a big, indulgent, deeply unhealthy snack and then a long long weekend filled with neither shenanigans nor life-threatening foolishness.
Favorite moment
Ooooh there's a lot. I love when he clowns on all of Retrieval One. I love the frantic racing thoughts at the restaurant before Arno Blunt clowned on him. I love the bit at the end of Lost Colony where he's been living in a hovel like a ridiculous beach bum because he's just waiting for Arty to come back.
Idea for a story
His very calm, very quiet, very low-key wedding to a beautiful and feisty Italian professor. (cough cough get going @weeinterpreter I'm not getting any younger here)
Unpopular opinion
I don't love him as a father figure to Arty. Don't get me wrong, Tim has a lot of making up to do... but Butler is a huge enabler for the small rapscallion, and while I love their familial bond I think Butler is more of a brother or favorite uncle or something, because he really should have stopped Arty many times.
Favorite relationship
Having just said what I said, I absolutely adore his very toxic enabling relationship with Arty. I also love seeing his big brother side with Juliet. And his 'soldiers' bond' thing he has with Holly. I dunno, the man's a big softie and I love how he loves the people around him.
Favorite headcanon
His dream is to retire and disappear with exactly one person and never speak to anyone else again. He just wants to become a wild mountain man who never speaks to huuman beings unless he deliberately forces himself into such a position to do it.
Woo! Butler done. Now on to Spiro, who is definitely my favorite (or maybe tied for favorite) villain in the series.
First impression
Just an absolute scumbag. Truly awful. A terrible person who is entirely unredeemable.
Impression now
Exactly the same. The man is who he is and I love him for it, even though the person who he is turns out to be an actual dumpster fire.
Favorite moment
When he somehow convinced his cousin to get plastic surgery to look exactly like him. How diabolically odd that conversation must have been. Can you imagine showing up to the family reunion and everybody's like, "Oh, hey Jon!" and you have to say, "No, I actually underwent surgery to look exactly like him but I am not Jon. The mix-up is understandable though." What a bunch of stinking weirdos I love them.
Idea for a story
I'd just love a short snippet of Jon spiraling to utter insanity in prison and becoming a blubbering fool because no one believes that he's actually dealt with fairies and he becomes the prison loon.
Unpopular opinion
He's delightful and I love every scene he's in.
Favorite relationship
Arno Blunt. I like to imagine that they're secretly best friends and that they absolutely detest each other despite it.
Favorite headcanon
He plays the keyboard in a classic rock cover band. They are terrible.
